Or are the Rooneys just that patient ?

They are still waiting for him to win his first Super Bowl, yet he has been there since 1992.

That's 14 seasons.

Most organizations aren't that patient.

Is he so good that he merits waiting 14 yrs ?

Most organizations should be that patient though. Remember the old days, Landy here 30 years. Shula there for 30 years. Not every season will be a good one and a few bad players should not get the coach fired, yet it does every season. Its become a 'what have you done for me lately' league. Sad but true.

Yep....and the cool thing about Cowher (who btw makes me nutz) is that because he's been there so long, the Pittsburg Steelers have a personality. They have had the same type of team for years. And that is part of what the NFL is missing these days.

I agree. After Landry 1st 5 years many in Dallas wanted him fired lucky Clint Murchinson was not going to buy into that so he gave Tom a 10 year contract. In my opinion it was the best move this organization made.

You have to give credit to the steelers scouts and personell people for constantly replacing players that they lose because they can not afford to sign them to large contracts.

Very true Juke. However, I wonder how many Cowboys fans would be ready to run him out of town because he's never won the Super Bowl.

I guess that's a different subject. :)

Ya know, would ya rather be good for a long time and never win the big one....or would ya rather win the big one and then go the route of the Baltimore Ravens....

I'm in between on this, the more seasons your being successful the more shots you have at making it to the SB. I don't want to see a 1 year wonder like the ravens had.

The Steelers are a good team, and as much as I dislike them they seem to at least make the playoffs every year. In fact, match Cowher's record for the last 3 years to Purcells for the last 3 years. Look at the QB they have now and the draft round Cowher plucked him in. I would take Cowher over Parcells without thinking twice.

Cowher stepped in dog crap when they picked Rothlisberger. Even then, Maddox was starting before he was tore something. It is similar to the Brady deal. How brilliant are both coaches if yo take away the QB's?

No he hasn't won a SB but he gets them to the dance almost every year and have as good a shot as any other team in the playoffs...... I look at it like this why take a chance on someone else who may not even get them to the playoffs again if it's not broke don't fix it.....

I think Cower is a very good coach when you look at the fact that he got his team to the SB with O'Donnell, was able to make it to the playoffs with Steward, took a chance on XFL QB in maddox and was able to get to the post season before getting Rothlisberger

Sorry. No fairsies on this logic.

Ya can't say if you "take away". They did it. They deserve the credit for it.

Where would Jimmy have been if you took away the Hershcel Walker heist?

Where would SF have been if they didn't select Montana in the THIRD round?

We can go on and on with "if".

I think he's a good coach, but I also think he's alot like Marty Shottenheimer (sp?)

He can get you into the playoffs, but can't win the big one. I'm not sure he'll ever get over the hump.

We haven't won a playoff game since 1995. So you don't know if people would be happy with a playoff appearance and a win or two, since it never happens.

Cowher "lost" Burress to FA on purpose. And in hindsight, what a genius move that was.

You're probably right but I think Shottenheimer is more of a, well, choke artist.

Cowher came thiiiiiiis close to beating a Cowboy team in a super bowl where he was outclassed.
