Is Dak Prescott the next Tebow?

Just get over Romo.

Seriously.

I get he is like some ex-girlfriend who gave you wild sex from time to time, but please, just stop talking about him.

He has zero relevance to this team and what we do going forward.
You're not understanding the point. My point had nothing to do with Romo. It had to do with the ineptitude of the coaching staff. If they can't recognize these supposed things you allege about Prescott last year, it makes them an even a worse problem than Prescott. Nothing will be solved until they are out of the picture in order to make an appropriate judgement about Dak. Romo was groomed by Parcells away from Garrett who didn't provide anything for him.

I'm going to go with coaching for now. Goff and keenum looked like crap under Fisher, now are with better coaches and they look completely different. I am worried though

Dak may work out, he may not. But he is most certainly NOT Tim Tebow, and that is what you're asserting. Scripted or not, he simply has skills Tebow never had.

So when do we talk again. Two more games?

Will you suddenly proclaim victory when Elliott returns?

I am suggesting the possibility that yes, he might be Tim Tebow.
And honestly, until he wins a game without Elliott, there is nothing to suggest otherwise.

People were bailing on Goff last season, look what a good (upgraded) coaching staff did for him. Dak had a perfect situation last year and this year the situation has been a disaster. Not ready to declare him RGIII yet. The whole team has been poo-poo. Let's be real.

I know exactly what kind of response this thread will get.

And that is fine.

But weeks ago when the Elliott suspension looked real, I pointed out we really did not have a big enough sample size without Elliott to make a determination about Prescott's future prospects. A lot of people got angry.

Now, after three games, we have a sample size. It is basically a quarter of a season.

To me, he looks like he has had the benefit of scripted starts since he came into the league. You just can't go from dangerous to inept with the loss of one player.

I don't care about the Sean Lee and Chaz Green arguments.

Look at the player and what he is doing.

I am pretty concerned. To the point that I believe he can't play without Elliott behind him.

The thing that bothers me at this stage is if it is the player or this staff's inability to adjust his game.

I realize it is next to impossible to do this after preseason, as it is set, but it still bugs me.

All I can say is that this season is over.

And we will be left with this QB question at the end.

Dak completed a lot of passes when Zeke was playing and Dak had good stats.

The fact that he struggles without Zeke indicates the receivers can't get open without the threat of Zeke.

Not having Zeke didn't change Dak's throwing motion...

And as for an explanation of this tough stretch, there are numerous possibilities and it's almost certainly multifactorial.

First and foremost, our scheme does him no favors. We don't scheme receivers open, we ask players to beat their man every down. Consequently we rarely have players open downfield.

Additionally, our protection has been garbage since the KC game. This absolutely has an effect on a QBs psyche.

He's also in fact just a 24 year old second year player who is likely pressing feeling like he has to do everything with a sinking season and Elliott's suspension. Our defense also is giving up points every damn drive.

Finally, yes Prescott has limitations. He isn't Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers. He will never be the most accurate downfield passer. But he also is nowhere near as bad as these games have shown.

You do not seem to understand.

We are not getting some hot shot offensive mind like McVay in here to fix him.

We will have Garrett, Linehan and Wade Wilson doing the same things with Prescott this offseason.

Let's talk from that foundation.

So?

Tim Tebow.

Robert Griffin.

The precedent is there.
It really is now.

The light is dimming on Dak. Rather quickly I might add.

Just think back on last year how the playbook was tailored around him and Zeke as his security blanket.

Romo’s offense was completely different. A stark contrast from Dak’s.

Wait, so we will undergo massive scheme changes that do him favors?

Do tell.

All young QB's struggle at some point. Look at what Dak did last year. Look at all of his numbers. He has the tools to be great. He's just in a slump with no help from the coaches. He can play at a high level, he's proven that. I can't believe we are having this conversation........

The Romo offense was stupid too.

It depended on a savant to run it.

That is the big problem.

The offensive leadership has to go. The head coach has to go.

But they are not going to go anywhere.

This stretch of games goes beyond struggle.

It looks like he can't play in this league.

Or at the very least, in this system with these coaches.

About Prescott being Tim Tebow's equal? Ideally never, because it will never be more or less true than it is now. It's an absurd assertion and always will be. It's a waste of time and bandwidth.

As far as whether or not he's "the guy" going forward, he'll be the starter next year regardless of how this year ends like it or not. He'll either show improvement or he won't and it'll work itself out. You don't abandon that ship until you're damn certain though, because QBs are too hard to find to give up on one with so much promise so quickly.

As a fan of Dak, I share some of your concern and am starting to worry about him, but as of right now this offseason we have many more pressing needs than QB such as:

1. entire coaching staff needing replaced: these schemes are too simple, lack of adjustments, players are never ready for situations in games, we are never fully ready for injuries which do happen, lack of respect for detail

2. Wide Receiver:
Dez is not the same guy and the guys behind him are having the same problem and that is being they are not able to break coverage and get open. Need a #1 WR

3. Linebacker:
Lee is the guy, but without him we are like dumbfounded. Need a guy or two that can outright play and not just fill in. Jaylon Smith may be still raw and getting better, but I still think we could use one more.

4. Tight End:
Witten is starting to show his age in his speed. We need to find a guy that can replace him.

5. Defense: young guys in secondary, and on dline could possibly use more help.

This team will not be able to fix this team entirely through the draft so it will have to work free agency and not just for 3rd string depth but actually spend a little money.

I think as long as we have a cheerleader for a coach, we will be stuck on this rollercoaster of mediocrity.

This team quit when Zeke was suspended and Tyron and Lee went out. I remember Aikman couldn't win without Emmitt. Its a team game and they have a good chemistry. Doesn't matter, we are not winning anything with Garrett anyway so there you go.......
