Is Dak Prescott the next Tebow?

DAK has been less than sharp. That explains poor play on plays that are called. But, those plays come from Garrett/linehan. They have zero idea how to do something outside of their script. Other teams study, and know the trends of our coaches. So, unless we get extra effort like what Zeke brings, we lose. I know what Dallas is going to run from my couch. Why wouldn’t an opponent know WAY more that that???

Also, are we now at 32 quarters with no holds against our opponent?

And as for an explanation of this tough stretch, there are numerous possibilities and it's almost certainly multifactorial.

First and foremost, our scheme does him no favors. We don't scheme receivers open, we ask players to beat their man every down. Consequently we rarely have players open downfield.

Additionally, our protection has been garbage since the KC game. This absolutely has an effect on a QBs psyche.

He's also in fact just a 24 year old second year player who is likely pressing feeling like he has to do everything with a sinking season and Elliott's suspension. Our defense also is giving up points every damn drive.

Finally, yes Prescott has limitations. He isn't Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers. He will never be the most accurate downfield passer. But he also is nowhere near as bad as these games have shown.

I was duped. I bought in to the stock, only to find out it's fools gold.

I don't care about age or experience or anything else. If you've seen enough football, you can get a feel for a guy's ability just by looking at him.

Without zeke, Dak doesn't have "it". He is scared and timid and utterly embarrassing. And now he isnt even using the one thing that could help him - his legs.

I fear that Dak is what the scouting reports said he was. What's that saying about makeup on a pig? Zeke is Dak's mascara

You do not seem to understand.

We are not getting some hot shot offensive mind like McVay in here to fix him.

We will have Garrett, Linehan and Wade Wilson doing the same things with Prescott this offseason.

Let's talk from that foundation.

So?

Scott Linehan won't be here next year. The rumor mill is already churning that he may not make it to season's end.

I don't know who his replacement will be, but he'll be sacrificed long before we give up on Dak or Garrett.

I know exactly what kind of response this thread will get.

And that is fine.

But weeks ago when the Elliott suspension looked real, I pointed out we really did not have a big enough sample size without Elliott to make a determination about Prescott's future prospects. A lot of people got angry.

Now, after three games, we have a sample size. It is basically a quarter of a season.

To me, he looks like he has had the benefit of scripted starts since he came into the league. You just can't go from dangerous to inept with the loss of one player.

I don't care about the Sean Lee and Chaz Green arguments.

Look at the player and what he is doing.

I am pretty concerned. To the point that I believe he can't play without Elliott behind him.

The thing that bothers me at this stage is if it is the player or this staff's inability to adjust his game.

I realize it is next to impossible to do this after preseason, as it is set, but it still bugs me.

All I can say is that this season is over.

And we will be left with this QB question at the end.

I'm not worried about Dak. That you played the Tebow and Griffin cards to make your point speaks volumes. At no point did either of them play like Dak.

Defenses are playing the Cowboys much differently without Zeke. Have you seen any adjustment from our coaching staff, or are they just doing what they do in spite of it? They're putting the QB in a bad situation and it shows.

About Prescott being Tim Tebow's equal? Ideally never, because it will never be more or less true than it is now. It's an absurd assertion and always will be. It's a waste of time and bandwidth.

As far as whether or not he's "the guy" going forward, he'll be the starter next year regardless of how this year ends like it or not. He'll either show improvement or he won't and it'll work itself out. You don't abandon that ship until you're damn certain though, because QBs are too hard to find to give up on one with so much promise so quickly.
Very well said and the Truth.....

All young QB's struggle at some point. Look at what Dak did last year. Look at all of his numbers. He has the tools to be great. He's just in a slump with no help from the coaches. He can play at a high level, he's proven that. I can't believe we are having this conversation........
He’s proven he can play at a high level with three first team All-Pros on the offensive line and a first team All-Pro RB. That’s all he’s proven. As soon as you take one or two of those away then he looks pedestrian. I can’t believe so many people struggle with the simplicity of the situation.

Some of the criticisms I (and others) had about him coming out of Mississippi State are rearing their ugly head these past few games.

Now, I promise you this is not me wanting to be right about my earlier assessment of him. I really like Dak and was thrilled how stupid he made me look last year. I'm still holding onto the hope that this is much more about Dak pressing, trying to accommodate for a nothing defense and a lack of coaching help from the sidelines. This O Line and Zeke will help him, but a QB has to be able to make the throws when called upon. I hope this is simply him trying to do more than he can versus being exposed.

The offensive leadership has to go. The head coach has to go.

But they are not going to go anywhere.
We’ll see about that.

Something will change.

It unequivocally has to.

My money is on some kind of upheaval.

He'll bounce back...I promise you that.
He could have bounced back after Atlanta.

Didn't.

Philadelphia.

Didn't.

Now?

All I can say is that it is frustrating.

I am not going to blast the second year player because he can't live up to his amazing production to this point.

I just want to know what the hell is going on.

And if it all boils down to Ezekiel Elliott, we need a new QB.

Logically, it has to.

But you forget about what kind of diseased mind Jerry Jones has.

Comparing Dak to Tebow is insane.

Tebow never completed over 65% of his passes for an extended period.

Tebow was lucky to complete 50% of his balls, than in the 4th quarter would suddenly start running around to find a way to win.

I personally think they are asking Dak to do too much, and he has lost his confidence.

Yes, he is playing bad, but I believe he can and will get better with more experience. The oline and WRs are helping him out a ton either.

If you go back and read the scouting reports on Dak coming out of college, many of them compared him to Tim Tebow.

I think the comparisons to RG3 come from instant but short-lasting success.

I don't think either comparison is unfair, I just hope they end up being wrong.

This stretch of games goes beyond struggle.

It looks like he can't play in this league.

Or at the very least, in this system with these coaches.

I can give you a long list of respected QBs with inferior ratings over 3 game stretches if it would make you feel better.

In 2016 Russell Wilson had a 4 game stretch that was Ryan Leaf bad, for instance.

he won 11 straight and broke NFL records with all that talent around him...not every Rookie could have done that........

Just get over Romo.

Seriously.

I get he is like some ex-girlfriend who gave you wild sex from time to time, but please, just stop talking about him.

He has zero relevance to this team and what we do going forward.
Except jerry wanted tony back. I think that little fact will have more relevance than any worthless discussions we have on the internet going forward, if dak does in fact prove to suck
