Well these are just position's that need bodies for the most part with people leaving. DE needs an upgrade and if church leaves the ss position is downgraded.

the best thing is get 2 top DEs - like jpp and someone like perry/ingram (not sure who is better)
the rest can be fill-ins like you say like wilcox/church and carr.

Nope

He's not consistent. One game he dominates and then the next game he disappears. I wish I knew why.

Perhaps Irving's consistency has a some to do with player on the opposite side of the ball. And in the case of the Packers--how much they hold.

Irving can be a decent player...maybe a good player. He'll probably continue to flash some nice moments...and the splash plays are huge for this defense.

That's a winning formula. If we had those two....we would have beaten Greenbay in 2014 and 2016.
Man that's a powerful duo

I wonder why her disappears for so long? Not a pep for games. Someone up thread said their not spending resources on
D1 and I tend to agree. Doesn't have to be a 1st rd. player but a high pick

First off, Rod has to be more aggressive. OL vs DL is a chess match we have to keep people guessing, when we did that last year, we were good.

The guys who showed promise, I'd have to see another season.

That said, if there 's a FA for the taking, or a stud falls to us, I'll kick in a couple bucks myself. We have arrived, so we do need to act. Rod, break out the Ensure and a Prep H because you need to pick up the game planning and it's painful watching you walk.

I miss football.

My wife is doing some documentation for her job and I am spending my Sunday night rewatching the Buccaneers game. I can't help but ask myself...how good can Irving be?

Would anyone here really be surprised if he puts it all together and takes a massive leap next season? After all, he is only about two weeks older than Dak Prescott and we all expect Dak to improve.

Is it possible Irving could more of an higher impact going into his 3rd season than any free agent pushing 30? I think so...

This isn't an argument for the team not doing anything in free agency this offseason to improve their pass rush. This is an argument that the team may not have to be as aggressive as some people think. If players like Maliek Collins and Irving make a leap next season, they could have a couple cornerstone pieces to build around.

I think Irving holds the most promise because of his flexibility. But, perhaps keeping him at one position would make sense so he can develop those skill sets.

I like what I saw but I'm not ready to crown him either.
Still has room to grow, and is quite young.
Think some wouldn't be down on him if we had one already established pass rusher.
Say if we had a Ware type RDE then having a mix of Irving/Law/Mayowa is solid.
Having two question marks at both ends is a tad shaky when we want to go far in the playoffs.

Lol every dlineman we have is Inconsistent.
Could it possible be because of the "position Flex" they are expected to have......vrs settling in at one position and concentrating at it...........

He may improve dramatically (and Collins, too), but we probably still won't have a dominator on the DL this year, since it's too early for our own young candidates, and I doubt that a big FA signing will happen.

I'd be happy this year with just more consistency and playmaking from a solid rotation, whose roles are better defined.

I feel better about Collins becoming a dominant player than David Irving at this point. I do think Irving will continue to improve and can be an excellent role player, but I haven't seen enough to think he will be more than a solid full time starter. However, this is the year for him to step up which will likely be another contract year.

It's a contract year for him and the door is open at LDE. The opportunity, and motivation (new contract), is there.

I like the idea of Lawrence and Irving at left end. Give me a young solid DT to play next to Collins and a RDE who can get off the ball, dip, bend and get after the QB.

As a young player, I don't see Irving taking the next big step until we put him in a position and leave him there. For any player, much less a young player to be playing at both DT spots and DE is a little crazy, I think.
