I agree, we need to find a position and keep him there. I am shocked at some of the negativity in this thread considering how improved he was last season and how young he is. I don't think anyone will question his talent.

We need to add more talent to our DE position as a whole but that doesn't necessarily mean we need to pay 80 million dollars to a defensive end pushing 30. Irving had two dominant games last season---if he has 4 next season with more consistency across the board, he can easily have the impact of anybody on the market.

I don't disagree with this but while it's not necessarily his 'fault' --I hate thinking in those terms anyway-- he didn't get the starting job because he was hurt in TC and took awhile to get back. After that they had to move pieces around to make it work and then fit him in where they could after the fact.

Cowboys appear big on players earning their spots each season and I love that approach. Once he earns his spot then they can make it work after the fact but they did not just hand it to him.

He is in an excellent position to win a starting spot at two different positions. I believe that if he keeps his nose to the grindstone and stays healthy he will win one. What he does from there we would have to see.

I also agree about not needing to break the bank. We just need to continue to add talent.

So his inconsistent play throughout the season had to do with him being held? Only on this board have you heard about him being held throughout the Packers game. Can you provide an article claiming that's the reason he didn't show up in the Packers game?
I'd like for you to set back and consider your reply to me and what I posted .I didn't say the entire game but he did get held with the camera showing.
So his inconsistent play throughout the season had to do with him being held? Please reread my post and see if I implied that. There is no equivalence in your argument.
Your original assertion that you didn't live in a world of excuses is what made me reply. A belittling comment to set yourself up on your notion of higher ground I guess.
I'm just saying he damn sure was held and held a lot . no extremes, all games. He got held a lot and Green Bay is noted for their holds. It least it seems renown round here.

I made no belittling comments so let's not go there. We're going to keep this civil or there will be no further discussion. You claimed there was plenty of holding and you have yet to provide any articles that support that.

I miss football.

My wife is doing some documentation for her job and I am spending my Sunday night rewatching the Buccaneers game. I can't help but ask myself...how good can Irving be?

Would anyone here really be surprised if he puts it all together and takes a massive leap next season? After all, he is only about two weeks older than Dak Prescott and we all expect Dak to improve.

Is it possible Irving could more of an higher impact going into his 3rd season than any free agent pushing 30? I think so...

This isn't an argument for the team not doing anything in free agency this offseason to improve their pass rush. This is an argument that the team may not have to be as aggressive as some people think. If players like Maliek Collins and Irving make a leap next season, they could have a couple cornerstone pieces to build around.

It's hard to tell. We didn't have a single DL who showed dominance in every game, and I'm not talking for four quarter of every game. We can hope that some of them take that step next year, but relying on it would be foolish because it's possible that they are what they have shown.

We have no choice at this point but to hope Irving and Collins become superstars. If not, we will need another season like 2015 where we get a Top-10 pick in order to draft an elite pass rushing prospect.

The belittling comment isnt a biggy and wasn't directed at me so ya let it pass.
I have zero idea about anything written regards Irving being held .I saw it. You'd have to re watch the game yourself.
Again not saying Irving isnt inconsistent Of course he is. But he was held frequently in the Green bay game. Regardless
of this years consistency. I'll let you get back to your excuseless world. That's snarky I know.

There was no talk outside this board about Irving being held frequently and I didn't hear any talk from him about it. I've given my opinion and this discussion between us is over.

He did tweet about the holding. I personally dont know if it happened in any other games but we had a thread on here vs GB that showed about four different obvious holds against him. I realize holding happens every game, these holds however were atrocious. For the record my preference is to add a DE also but that market is drying up quickly.

Edit: didnt realize you were doing the whole discussion is over thing now. So this discussion is also over. ;)

All the pointing at holding calls was just FANS looking for excuses. As for the whole discussion thing being over, I've been given no choice they're cracking down on all the slap fighting that's been going on and anyone who appears to be trying to stir something up I'm moving on. You and I are still open for discussion on this topic provided you keep it civil. Everyone has an opinion and there's no point in waging war on anyone or trying to start fights due to a differing of opinion.

He has to be able to be play more snaps. Currently, when he is effective is when he plays hardly any snaps. It' much easier to be effective when you're not tired. When he is tired, he vanishes.
