First rule of the NFL...You never pay AGE! If ET is a generational player, why is Seattle contemplating letting
him go?

Oh I agree. But the comment was giving unrealistic constrainsts, so why not just say no thanks.

You would think after the lack of interest, coupled with the soft safety market, Seattle would understand that no one is giving up the house for ET. He's not exactly the missing piece to a Superbowl caliber team.

Wasn’t planning yet another thread on this but hear me out. Jones is moving to corner and no safeties have even been brought in for a FA visit. That leaves a whopping three safeties on the whole roster. I assumed we would hit safety in the draft to fill the gaps. But that doesn’t appear to be the case. The visit list is almost entirely devoid of safeties. And none of the highly ranked ones. So what gives? Are we rolling with Heath, woods and Frazier?? Or is something else in the works?
mr Teague--- I like your reasoning...i thought for sure we would have picked up Tre Boston or safety for saints ( forgot his name ) or maybe even Reid of 49ers...and not even a nibble....i heard today on "The Break" cowboy podcast show...that the silence about this issue for FS may very well be that coaches like what they got in frazier and Woods?....i really like Woods a lot...he does look a lot smaller than i thought but he can lay the wood and cover pretty well too...but if somehow we landed ET? oh my gosh...our backfield would instantly become elite...no way i would be happy giving up and 1st and a 3rd and his salary....i would not even give up a 1st.....but that is me...i would give up pick 50....i have a feeling cowboys will roll out a team that will fight for division title this year

I am not sure if Seattle backs down from wanting a first rounder now due to the Cooks deal.

They are tight against the cap this season. Age does play a part in it, but ET played very well last year.

They don’t, there is a reason they dumped Sherman and it wasn’t only the injury but the drama he brought. They don’t want any big drama players.

And they're not looking to add a big contract like his either.

The Earl Thomas acquisition as it currently stands regarding Seattle’s asking price, ET’s contract, his age, and his recent injury history makes getting him a bad idea in my book. If I’m not mistaken, ET will be a FA in 2019, making him a possible one year “rent a player” if his price were to go up. That may not happen because of his age and injury problems...he hasn’t played a full season in two years.

Now if things changed in some big ways, like asking price, his contract situation....maybe. As it stands now, it’s not a good move IMO.
I think the assumption is ..if we trade for ET we will already have a contract extension in the works that will allow us to fit ET into our cap space which would probably be created with a contract extension for Zack Martin.

Cowboys heaven, maybe. But there's zero reason why the Seahawks would have any interest in Dez Bryant. Any trade idea involving Bryant to the Seahawks makes zero sense. That's all I'm saying. They would never touch him. He's the opposite of what they want.

In my dream world, we flip Beasley and our second-rounder for New England's first, then trade that pick and Terrance Williams for Thomas, with an injury guarantee (third-round pick next year if Williams doesn't bounce back from his broken foot).

The question would be whether either team would consider Beasley or Williams worth essentially a mid-third-round pick. Our second-round pick and the No. 78 pick overall equals out in value to the Patriots' first.

Patriots get a receiver who fits their scheme and isn't too costly and Seattle gets a No. 2 receiver who is still relatively young, inexpensive and under contract for three more years. Thomas becomes essentially our second-round pick for a couple of players from a crowded position group.

Of course, if we got New England's first-round pick, we could just draft a young safety like Ronnie Harrison, but there's no guarantee of success.

I'm sorry to say that I don't think that either of those receivers has much value to the other teams.

...Dang NE...still getting "two" 1rst round picks!...

They'll need them and their two second rounders to move up and draft Tom Brady's eventual heir. Plus, after trading Brandin Cooks and losing Danny Amendola to Miami, they have next to nothing at receiver and might try to move up for Calvin Ridley too.

Julian Edelmann, Chris Hogan, and Britt and Dorsett think otherwise. Malcolm Mitchell was clutch in the super bowl win over ATL, and could also be a comer. NE is stacked at WR.

And NE didn't lose the super bowl because of WR. They lost because their D sucked and Philly's D made some plays and a very key play to make Brady fumble. Cooks type WR's don't keep you from getting hit, route running fiends are better at that.

No. I think it is a dead issue. I don't think it was ever a real possibility.
