Is everyone cooling off on Miles Austin?

I think if Austin can just get some quality playing time in some of his stupid drops will go away. He actually has good hands but good hands are not what makes receivers good.

His biggest problem is just one he gets in the swing of things he gets hurt and I think that has hampered his confidence level.

I've cooled off a little, but I'm still not down on him. The continuing battle with injuries and that drop I saw against Tennessee have tempered my enthusiasm, but I still believe he will be a deep threat that defenses will have to respect. He's got size and great speed. He's made some big plays when he's been healthy the past couple of years and he's poised to take it up another notch this year, in my opinion.

Austin and Hurd are both due a contract next year. One or both will be gone.

I'm on the fence with Austin. He has shown flashes but he does get nicked. This is the perfect year for him to put it all together and be a difference maker.

I think our expections for Austin are unfair. How many #3 wide receivers are difference makers? Austgin may get a couple of shots a game to go deep just to keep the D honest and hopefully he can make some plays. But in our offense, RW, Crayton, Witten, Felix and Bennett will probably see the ball more than Austin.

Austin will put up 500-600 receiving yards this year and be our deep threat guy. Next year he will be the clear #2 and nipping at Roy's heels to be the #1.

If Crayton goes down with and injury, which he is due for, sorry to say. (He has glass ankles) Austin will put up 1,000 yards receiving...YEP, he's that good.

It's obvious Austin has talent and the ability to contribute anytime you catch him on one of his better days. Thing is, it's pretty difficult to get all a-twitter about someone who has shown he's prone to injury at the drop of a hat. Consistency and reliability always loom large when considering who to value. He has yet to demonstrate that over time.

if he were to wanna stay at #3, then you would have a point. He has been here for three years, and this is his 4th. It would be nice to see him show up this year and I hope he does.

I'm not surprised he is cooling off...he hasn't done anything since what, the GB game last year?

You can count on it, Miles Austin will make some big plays for Dallas.

I don't know if he is going to be a solid #2 WR or a Alvin Harper(ish) type guy for the Cowboys.

He may never be a true #2 caliber WR, but neither was Alvin Harper.

So no, why should I be cooled off on Miles Austin. He is young guy that has shown improvement.

If he shows nothing this year, then I will be cooled a plenty.

i think Romo has a good rapport with Austin, that all matters in the end.

TonyRomo#9

i have allways been of the opinion that
Hurd>Austin

hurd allways catched the ball. does austin?
hurd seems to just get open. does austin? other then 2 plays last year?!
hurd gives his all and makes the most out of each shot.. i don't even need to ask, cause we all know austin does not.
as far as im concerned austin is the 4th best WR, and best watch his back for ogletree. as he is just as fast, and showing alot allready.

Says who? I am not going to tear down Hurd to build up Austin like you are doing, but you just made a bold claim that you cannot back up.

crucial drops are not making the most of chances.. are you saying austin doesn't make stupid drops? we hardly saw him in preseason and he made a big one.. please. how many people here believe austin has made the most out of his chances?

Hurd also had a drop in his limited action this preseason. Miles has had some huge plays in regular season, and is probably our best kick returner.

No need to hate on Miles to try to build your man up. They both still have plenty to prove my man plenty.

Too many injuries and too many drops. He had all the opportunity in the world this offseason and what happened? Crayton easily held him off, Hurd seems to have passed him on the depth chart, and a rookie free agent has out-performed him and may make him expendable after this year. Did I mention, he also got hurt again.

Austin has to turn it on big time this season and prove to be dependable, both with his health and his hands. If not, he will be gone. I'm soo glad JJ did not give him all that money he wanted because he hasn't earned a dime over the minimum at this point. Too bad the Jets didn't make him an offer because I think we would have taken the 2nd rounder and ran!

everyone acts like im tearing austin down cause im a hurd fan.. when infact im a hurd fan cause austin is what i said.

austin had 2 big catches in his career, and all the sudden he is the next #1.
i like austin, i hope he turns out well, i hope he starts making the best out of each opportunity. but to say he has allready is foolish..

and to the both have preseason drops. did you see those? austin's was a routine catch which should have been a big play. hurds was well behind him, he then went on to make one of the best catches of the preseason..

hurd is just a gamer, he makes the most out of each shot, thats why he is a special teams ace too..

here is the big question.. if we are in the superbowl, a minute left, down 4, and it is 3rd and 12.. who would you rather see the ball flying toward? hurd our austin?

Hopefully Austin gets healthy and makes some plays. Ditto for Hurd, because if Ogletree gets on the field they might never get him off. He runs great routes, catches the ball and makes plays.

TonyRomo#9

indeed, i am high on ogletree. i hope he atleast gets a chance to show something this season.

He'll be fine.

He showed last year before we traded for Roy Williams that he could be apart of this offense.

He has another year experience and will just be that much better.

The implication is Miles does not give it his all, that is as about a big of a indictment you can give a player. So yes, you are tearing him down. Your words not mine.

I never said he was a "next #1". I think I said he may never even be a true #2. So there you go.

It was not a great pass, I will give you that, but in the NFL that is a pass you must catch, just like Austin should have caught his.

Good...I like Hurd, but I don't have to slam him to build up my guy. Did you like Austin's TD return against Seattle in a playoff game? Speaking of preseason, did you like Austin's 70 yard Kickoff return...got brought back on a ticky tacky / phantom call.

Honestly the two games that most come to mind for me when I think about Austin are the games against Seattle and Green Bay. Austin came up big. I haven't seen enough from Hurd in a big game to say yet.
