Is firing a head coach midseason a good idea?

Dude our linebackers are not built to play a 4-3.

that ends the discussion right there.

We would have to gut the whole team and we haven't drafted any players that could possible make the switch. Except for williams I have a lot of hope in that kid.

Actually it's that mentality that is the problem. In 08 that we the excuse well we 13-3 in 07 and blah blah blah. You can't keep looking at they year as a justification to keep him plus the lack of success in december and the playoffs is more than enough reason. With that said I don't see a bright future with Wade as the HC for the cowboys.

Why in the world we kept him after last yr is aggravating enough...just think if Rex Ryan was here...

LoL I thought that too myself also. I want a HC like Ryan here. Damn it must be nice. Sanchez seems to have a good head on his shoulders especially about his mistakes. He doesn't just brush them off and say oh what the hell.

People are losing their minds over rex ryan.

Rex ryan like his dad will put his team in bad spots with that aggressive defense give it time. Rookie players hit walls, loud mouth coaches have to deal with karma.

its september. If the jets are still winning in the same manner in december give them credit. For now people need to cool it with this rex ryan stuff.

I'm willing to bet that Tony doesn't get yelled at or called out on his turnovers during film study. We know it doesn't happen during the game so why even think it happens behind closed doors. I don't think ppl realize how bad TR needs a Parcells type of coach who will get in his face and tell him he's screwing up. Instead he ponders his mistake himself and "tries" to be better.

Very aggressive but high risk rewards. They getting sacks turnovers wins. Shut down amazing WR's. It would be nice to stop mediocre WR's.

Ravens seem to be all right, IIRC they lost because flacco had a terrible game (3 ints) to the Steelers. The defense played great but rookie QB lost it for them.

I completely agree with just about everything you are saying. However, if I were a Jets fan I would be on cloud 9 right now because whether or not it continues through December or not, the outlook of that franchise is much much brighter than it was just a few months ago.

If you plan on switching coaches at the end of the year anyway, then I think it's a good idea to get the transition started as soon as possible. That said, I think the only time that you really have a lame duck coach is when a team has suffered from years of poor finishes.

This is an excellent post. While I am not really into mid season firing/hiring... Your post lays it out well. Jerry could have avoided this scenario by dumping Wade at seasons end.

It can't hurt. Nothing is going to happen under Wade Phillips. I'm normally reasonably optimistic, but it is time to call a spade a spade.

This is true. The only way we win anything is in spite of Wade.

I think the Brewers did it last year as well, but its a completely different situation with baseball to football.

Just a tidbit. The Brewers got CC Sabathia in midseason trade... THAT is why they had success. He practically put that team on his back. He went 7-1 I believe.

In reality, Jerry should have dumped Wade the day after the 44-6 beating in a "win and get in" pseudo playoff game.

The writing was on the wall after that game. We it was on the wall for longer than that its just that that game put a spotlight on the wall.

As an owner, Jerry should have been fed up. But he wasnt. As fans we should have been fed up and I believe most of us were.

Giving any support to Wade or believing in Wade is foolish IMO.

This "inaugural season" of the new stadium will be a forgettable one... or atleast it should be.

So, again. A 44-6 drubbing and then an opening game at new stadium embarassment should be more than enough to atleast have Jerry thinking about pulling the plug on the Doughboy.

I say, dump Wade ASAP. Yes, after monday. Call Cowher and get it over with.

This team plays hard, they play hungry... they just dont play smart.

Yes sir, and Rex Ryan is a respected DC and I'm pretty sure after this season will be a respected HC. We had two yrs of WP and what has this team accomplished?

they should be.

they appear to have a qb to hang a hat on and a defense to call an identity.

I am just not buying all this rex ryan stuff. every year there is some new guy re-inventing the wheel only to lose complete focus at some point and level off.

Last year it was Jim Zorn. In 07 it was mike mcarthy, 06 it was eric mangini, etc etc etc....

When the pats get used to all those new parts I can see them putting the jets in their place.

And they have most of the same personnel from last year I believe. Just goes to show how well they are coached.

That's nice but no playoff win, no SB. fail for me. Top ten D at least?

nm 8th overall. but still no SB = fail.

even at this juncture I would take 1 playoff win to call this yr a success.

I think the only reason he's still here is cause there wasn't really anyone better to replace him with which is pretty much the same exact thing that led us to hire him in the first place when BP left. By the time Shanahan became available the decision to stick with tubby was already made

And we were the better team in that playoff loss to the Giants, as noted by Wade. Small victories, but victories nonetheless, right?

(By the way, I'm assuming your posts trumpeting Wade's successes were tongue in cheek. If not, well, then I'm sorry for ya lol).
