Is Garrett getting a pass for lack of discipline?

This was covered in the other thread, but 58 of those games are from R. McClain (14), Gregory (30), Brent (10), and Hardy (4, before he ever came to DAL).

Which of those are discipline problems? McClain had substance issues and didn't want to be here. Should not have been on the team, but his presence had nothing to do with the team culture. Gregory has medical/emotional issues and was a known risk when drafted. Brent, we know what happened there and it wasn't a discipline thing.

So, no, we don't have a discipline problem. We have a culture where we give a lot of second chances to troubled players and they end up suspended. But then, we already knew that.

Why is it Garrett's fault? These are grown men, and they're suffering their own consequences.
Not really it is discipline on the field, off the field these are grown men, do you get baby sited? A HC can do so much off the field that is why the league office hands down punishment. HC is responsible for the actions of his player on the field and in the locker room.

People seem to forget these are grown men who are well paid and live their own lives.
I agree most of the blame falls on the individual. But if we're going to use this 'grown man' argument to absolve Garrett, then it absolves Jerry too.

My issue is the players do not seem to fear Garrett and the consequences when they make these decisions. That's a huge flaw in a culture that he gets a lot of credit for on here.

I agree with the theory that most of these players were ones Jason advised against drafting. One of his criteria for the right kind of players was good citizenship.

He doesn't always get his way and, for me, I think it is easy to pick out the "Jerry" choices.

They typically involve overpayed or troubled veteran contracts (Carr and Hardy) or bargain draft picks as a result of red flags (Gregory).

Guys are going to do whatever they want to do in the offseason. I'm not blaming Garrett for Randy Gregory. Chances are...he probably didn't even want him to begin with. Him or Greg Hardy.

Jerry wanted those players, Garrett didn't.

Garrett's team always play hard. Wade's team, especially his defense, quit on him.

Right. You can say a lot about Garrett.....discipline isn't one of them. He has a bunch of good guys here. The rare ones he does get aren't his guys.

Nope. He's not a babysitter, he's a coach. These are grown men making teenage mistakes. 100% of the blame is on them.

If only Garrett had the stones to put the fear of god in Gregory to stop smoking pot, his bipolar disorder that he treats it for would have just vanished. Belichick would have set him straight for sure

These are grown men for christ sake

Jones has so much respect for Garrett that he stressed the new coach will make the final call on who is on the coaching staff and indicated there will not be a player on the 53-man roster he doesn't approve of.

"Jason will have the final say on any person that leaves the coaching staff or comes to the coaching staff," Jones said. "There won't be a player on this team that Jason does not want on the team."

I'm not a big Garrett fan but this is more on Jerry than him. If reports are true that he didn't want Gregory or Hardy then how is he to be blamed?

Lol you are making a lot of excuses my man, but I'll play along.

If we make "special rules" for Garrett/Cowboys and take out Gregory, McClain, and Hardy (understandable since he was not on the team), then we're still at 38 games missed - tied for 5th most.

Realistically, Ro belongs on the list, which would bump us back up to #1 or #2 on that list.

Jerruh is finally maturing at the ripe old age of whatever it is.

I've said my peace on Gregory. I feel for him and hate how the league has treated his case.

That being said, if we take out Gregory's suspensions we'd still be first on the list.
