Is Garrett getting a pass for lack of discipline?

I agree most of the blame falls on the individual. But if we're going to use this 'grown man' argument to absolve Garrett, then it absolves Jerry too.

My issue is the players do not seem to fear Garrett and the consequences when they make these decisions. That's a huge flaw in a culture that he gets a lot of credit for on here.
Well, when you can bypass the coach and go to the owner, this seems to happen. :(

Also, I want to know now in case we sign him if Jerry is pushing Daryl Washington on Jason...let's go on the record.

Lol at Garrett not wanting Ro. Doesnt he have some real close relationship with Nick Saban? I know ive read that here several times on here.
There are threads on here praising Garrett for his homework on Ro with Saban and how he was able to turn him around in 2014. It's ridiculous to say he was forced on Garrett.

And Ro played lights out in 2014. Wasn't a total loss like many portray it to be.

But that damn purple drank. Man, damn that purple drank! :)

Lol you are making a lot of excuses my man, but I'll play along.

If we make "special rules" for Garrett/Cowboys and take out Gregory, McClain, and Hardy (understandable since he was not on the team), then we're still at 38 games missed - tied for 5th most.

Realistically, Ro belongs on the list, which would bump us back up to #1 or #2 on that list.

Not a single excuse, actually. There's no denying those guys are on the roster. You asked whether or not it indicated a discipline issue, not whether we had guys with a lot of suspensions on the roster. There are no 'special rules.' I just expect you to know the difference between an undisciplined player and a reclamation project. Jerry likes his reclamation projects. He's said it publicly, and made a big deal about investing in it. It shouldn't be a surprise to anybody that there are a lot of suspended games on the roster as a result.

That said, I'm not against giving these guys chances. The only thing I'm against is spending draft picks on troubled players or giving them big contracts we can't get out of easily. As long as we avoid both, if we dedicated one roster spot/year to one of Jerry's kids, I'm ok with that. You get a year like we got out of R. McClain in 2014, and it's generally worth it.

As for your final comment, that's a good point. If we're tops in the league in Garrett's whole tenure (basically since 2011), excluding Jerry's misfits, I'd say you have a point.

I'd may agree if Dallas led by the number of players suspended, this is games which could boil down to three players getting the majority of games.

I disregard this.

Difference between "lack of discipline" and players that have substance abuse issues.

All the discipline in the world will not fix a substance abuse problem.

The one guy that was a discipline issue (Hardy) was removed from the equation after 1 season.

With all due respect, I agree with the PEDs, DUIs, DVs... but Gregory should be on the field. He's done none of those.
In hind site, he never should have been drafted but that's not on Garrett I don't imagine
And he is old enough and should be smart enough to see what he is costing himself

My point is that it shouldn't be costing him anything.

But I am speaking in hypotheticals, I know this. And it sucks.

This was covered in the other thread, but 58 of those games are from R. McClain (14), Gregory (30), Brent (10), and Hardy (4, before he ever came to DAL).

Which of those are discipline problems? McClain had substance issues and didn't want to be here. Should not have been on the team, but his presence had nothing to do with the team culture. Gregory has medical/emotional issues and was a known risk when drafted. Brent, we know what happened there and it wasn't a discipline thing.

So, no, we don't have a discipline problem. We have a culture where we give a lot of second chances to troubled players and they end up suspended. But then, we already knew that.
