Recap: Is Guyton a bust if doesn't win starting job at LT during camp?

If you listen to the podcast, they make a good point. If you’re too scared to give a guy like this a learning curve and let him develop, why would you not pony up for Tyron? As the first reply from @ChronicCowboy said, they knew this was a project going in for that draft pick.
every player coming out of the draft is a project, point/?lmao .this was not, NOT A REACH,

the cowboys are one of the organizations that let their draft picks develop, even if struggling ; see Tyler smith all the same things said about him...now?

We’ve had the best LT in the NFL for like 12 years now and can’t get past the divisional round.

So, anything less than HOF level play from Guyton is a downgrade.

LT’s don’t win championships.
No, but they can help the TEAM win championships. Just like every other player can.

If he doesn't show significant progress in his 2nd year, and 3rd year he's a bust. This year? No he would not be. He was drafted at the end of the first round. Being drafted there he should be able to develop into a backup spot for now. He was a guy projected to be someone with high upside in time. That has not changed.

The performance standard for our last 4 1st round olineman draft picks:
Day one starter who performs from good to excellent his first year and becomes pro bowl/all pro level with each following year.

If Guyton can meet that kind of standard then he continues the reputation of Cowboy 1st rd olinemen.

If not, he will be perceived on a different level. If it takes a year or 2 but he still reaches pro bowl/all pro caliber performance then we will call him a Cowboy oline late bloomer and still be okay with it.

If on the other hand, he remains at an average to below average performance level, he will be considered a bust.

+1.....He should start by 2nd year, no question.

See a lot of talk about this in Cowboys fandom podcasts.

Some concern based on comments from Jones Boys and McCarthy that Edoga will be the starter.

First round picks are drafted to be impacts. Zack, TFred, Tyler Smith all drafted in similar ranges and won their jobs.

A lot of criticism on Jones Boys. If Guyton has too much of a learning curve to make coaches confident to start him, why let Tyron go?

No.

Next question.

No, they're not. You're apparently unaware of NFL lingo. The more of a project a player is, the longer away he is from contributing, especially at a high level. A project is, quite simply, and player who has a ways to go to be NFL ready.

If Guyton doesn't start game #1 then he will start at some point in the first half of the season.

He is a #1 drat choice. That's how things work on this team.

Guyton not be the starteru my

He has a chance but the key for us will be patience......remember we moved down 4 spots from 24 to 29

Pre-Draft Analysis

Guyton started only 14 games at tackle in college, so he is raw as a prospect. But the former tight end has the size, quickness, length and footspeed to develop into a starter early in his NFL career. He can mirror, recover, push speed rushers past the quarterback and hold his ground even though he sets high in pass pro. Guyton can also get into position and cover up defenders in the run game. -- Steve Muench

Matt Miller's pro comp: Lane Johnson

Post-Draft Analysis

Guyton is a plug-and-play right tackle who has the agility to eventually make the move to the left side if Dallas wants to keep 2022 first-rounder Tyler Smith at left guard. His agility, length and positional upside make him a fantastic fit with Dallas, where a Day 1 starter on the offensive line was a very real need. -- Miller

Overall value: Perfect range. The Cowboys address their most pressing need and land the best available tackle at the end of the first round making this a strong pick. -- Muench

Tackles usually step up big time in year 2. Some guys that don't get it in year 2 will pick it up in year 3. But in general, tackle's not a really a late-bloomer position. Some small LTs need a couple seasons to get stronger, but usually it's the feet that make or break tackles, and you can see that immediately. They just need some live reps to adjust to a way harder NFL playbook and to the speed of the defensive mutants across from them.

Anyway, what you want to see from Guyton in year 1 is signs of life. If he's an average LT, that's a big win. Even if he kind of sucks, that's still a good sign.. A lot of rooks will start the season strong and then fade, or struggle for a couple months and finish strong. I'll take either. I just want to see some signs that he can play.

If Guyton can just hang on and survive, then I'd expect big improvement to come quickly thereafter. But if he's out there looking lost, or if he can't beat out journeyman backups for a starting gig, that will a huge problem.

calling anyone a bust should have evidence first
Mazi got a year before he got called one
Guyton has not even made it to camp
If he is not ready to start right away at LT that is not on HIM it is on the Front Office that let Tyron go

yes. given we have nobody at LT except for Waltzko, and Josh Ball, he better win the job as a first round pick. there is not time to learn and given he only started 8 games at RT, its a huge leap. many teams have tried to draft athletes to make them into football players and failed. he maybe a good athlete but playing LT is the toughest job outside of QB

OP could have waited one more week to see himself in the TC.

No, that would not make him a bust, but I believe he will learn on the job.

Guyton was a need pick and a reach. He was considered more of an early 2nd round player the closer to the draft we got. Definitely not a sure thing.

But I’d wait until 2025 to call him a bust.
Picking at 29 you're getting a 2nd rd graded player 90% of the time. I don't give this team the benefit of the doubt on many things, but I will on 1st rd lineman as its been a while since they wiffed on one. Maybe jacob rogers? Or was he a 2? Looked it up #52 overall.
