He’s a LT.

We got scrubs at LT before the draft.

The worry with Guyton is that he wasn’t All American / All Conf in NCAA ball.

That’s a red flag.

The kid has talent though.
cmon,if he was he wouldnt be available late in the first RD.

I like the fact that the FO and the scouts realized OL was in need of fresh bodies . I’m glad they took this part of the team seriously so Dallas doesn’t have to go out and fish for 40 plus yr old unemployed linemen like last season .

Along with Bass & Hoffman real depth is taking shape . At some point Guynton & Beebe will be starters .

See a lot of talk about this in Cowboys fandom podcasts.

Some concern based on comments from Jones Boys and McCarthy that Edoga will be the starter.

First round picks are drafted to be impacts. Zack, TFred, Tyler Smith all drafted in similar ranges and won their jobs.

A lot of criticism on Jones Boys. If Guyton has too much of a learning curve to make coaches confident to start him, why let Tyron go?

I wouldnt call him a bust. As BP said give the player three years.

But if he does not play LT from day one this was a bad pick by our FO.

Your first rounder has to start day one at least. Especially if you call yourself a team that builds itself thru the draft.
If he does not it is a bad pick or waste of resource.

This is so dumb. No, year one of a players career doesn’t make him a bust, just like we’ve seen the other side of the coin where guys have success immediately it doesn’t mean they are long for super stardom. Need to give 2 seasons at minimum

Fact, not starting for up to a half a season doesn't remove from view a strong starter viewable achievement. A player arrives when he gets there.

Guyton was likely a bust the moment they took him 3 rounds to early. Drafting a guy in the 1st round that needs 3-4 years to develop the needed skills to be above average is not a winning formula.

You have no way of saying either of those guys will ever develop enough to start. They have potential you hope will be realized.
Not at all, this team is strong at evaluations as well as leadership in training. Stay away from Basic Training in service. That is forged in fire. He has the tools.

Definitely. Laughing at folks who say otherwise, trying to convince themselves this is normal for a first round lineman. Definitely a big disappointment if he’s not starting by end of season. I’ll go with bust only because of his draft position. And you’re right, more important than ever with the Jones Boys lack of free agency. Again, per OP, why let Tyron go if you’re not willing to give an OT first round pick growing pains? Either more idiot GM’ing, or Guyton looking like another Mazi.

What, what???

He had a late first/ very early second round grade. You saying he should have been a 4th rounder? There is zero chance he would have lasted past halfway through the 2nd round. He won't need 3-4 years to develop. In all the draft articles and reviews I've read, there hasn't been one person saying anything close to that?

Exactly where did you get your draft grade and assessment of him from?

If you listen to the podcast, they make a good point. If you’re too scared to give a guy like this a learning curve and let him develop, why would you not pony up for Tyron? As the first reply from @ChronicCowboy said, they knew this was a project going in for that draft pick.
People just saw 'Bust' and ran with it on you. I think some posters missed your entire point.

I saw no one who gave him a 4th round grade.

Many grade people on what they could be, he was graded high the same reason Taco was, due to his physical gifts. I would stay away from guys with low production who aren't ready to start in the 1st. Maybe 4 is too low, so what i'd rather be taking guys like Cooper in the 3rd who have shown the skills needed to come in and compete vs guys who look good in the gym and maybe become decent in 2-3 years. But that's just me.

I would say it's just a tad bit early to already be counting Guyton as a bust.
He could just as easily be a very solid addition to this OL.
I worry about this OL like I worry about a rain cloud, this is a young and hungry OL.

Tyron Smith wasn't the LT his rookie year. Nor did he look all pro year 1.

We had a lot of threads on here on if Dallas made the wrong choice in the Watt vs Smith pick till maybe 2013-14
Smith was a great player, but Dallas unquestionably made the wrong pick.
