Is it actually dangerous to wear Cowboy's gear to the Linc?

I went last year. I had a Cowboys t-shirt on but it was freezing so I had a jacket on over it. I was with a vendor from Philly and we actually tailgated. I showed all his tailgate friends and got some friendly jawing about it but no danger. They were generally upper end business types so not the aggressive type.

The walk in and out of the Linc I had it zipped up. I did see some people wearing Cowboys stuff taking a lot of heat on the way out but no actualy fights. However, I wouldn't not be shocked at all if beer cans were thrown at you especially if we win.

Durine the game I had the jacket unzipped and wasn't scared to cheer for the Boys. I think I was kinda lucky to be in the last row of the club level though. Nobody was behind me, just a brick wall. I think i would have been a lot less comfortable otherwise. I did have a few fans stare me down a couple times when we scored or forced turnovers. The guy right infront of me was an old dorky guy and when they started coming back he kept putting up his fist (in a cheering fashion not a punch fasion) but awkwardly behind him so it was right in my face. You could tell he wanted to say something to me but didn't have the stones to so he just kept passive aggressive actions. I did actually make friends with a few young guys right by me. I explained "I know you hate us and yes I hate the Eagles too. But it's out of mutual respect. Honestly the Eagles have been pretty good overall the past 2 decades and have kept us out of the playoffs more than the Commanders or Giants have. I'll admit it. I hate yall because you're good. The Commanders are the team that is just flat out a joke". They agreed. They were like "I hate the Cowboys but we gotta admit yall are legit. One guy even admitted he wished they had Romo."

So they aren't all bad but overall they really are a different breed up there. I'd say it depends on how many people you have with you and what your tolerance is for childish actions. Like I said I could easily see you having beer cans thrown at you. Even something like a guy behind you pouring one on your head during the game if we are stomping them. If you are a hot head don't do it because someone will do something to provoke you. Gauranteed.

Other than the last absurd comment, I hope people listen to this and not to the people who "heard from a friend who heard from a friend" that watching a game in Philly is dangerous.

Do you know what a little too much alcohol and being excited or angry about a game does to you? To your friends? Good, then you know what it does to literally every other human being who is likely to be at a football game. Behave with this in mind and you will be fine at any stadium in the country.

Dude - what? "...heard from a friend who heard from a friend..." - and yet 9 pages are littered with first persona accounts and people who actually live in Philly. You advice is really good but your take away from the thread is way off. Things happen there and it sounds like the luck of the draw whether your cool or not.

Bingo.

The stories in this thread simply do not happen at most stadiums, or if they do, they are very infrequent. I live in Indianapolis and have never seen or heard anything like this at Lucas Oil Stadium. People wear opposing jerseys and they cheer for their teams and nothing bad happens. No threats, no fighting, no food or beers being thrown at people. People give and take good-natured ribbing, and that's it. Same with every game I've been to in Dallas, or any baseball game I've attended in Chicago or St. Louis. Same with every college sporting event I've been to.

Even if just a small percentage of Philly fans act violent or aggressive, it's an exponentially larger number than just about any other fanbase I've ever interacted with at any sort of sporting event anywhere.

That last position is so ridiculous it doesn't a merit a response. I mean really.

I love when they say "as long you don't act like an idiot" or "it never happened to me, but I'm 6'6" with 5 brothers"

Philly has a terrible reputation and it is well deserved. Incidents happen at every stadium(4 men and a women just got arrested after a brutal beating after the SF opener) but Philly is really bad.

If you are with a group and can handle some verbal diarrhea then wear it, but if you are with kids or some women I wouldn't risk it.

And yes, that is the over 30 response from people that have actually experienced it first hand and know that it doesn't matter how you act if a whole stadium is looking to harass you and it really isn't worth the hassle in the long run.

Well, of course things happen there when the situation is right. There are 8 or 9 pages of people with differing first-person accounts and despite your comment, stories various people have heard about.

Again, having lived in Philly and having watched several Cowboys games during my time there, I never had a significant issue. I have had or observed issues at a variety of other stadiums (e.g. the old Shea in baseball, O.Co and even NRG in Houston), but never at the Linc, the new or old Meadowlands, AT&T Stadium or many of the others. But my anecdotal experience is no more valuable than that of others. Just because I didn't see it in 6 or 7 visits to the stadium doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

But if people really believe that the people who live in Philadelphia are somehow so different from us that the composition and behavior of the average fan is going to be far worse, I don't know what to say. People are people, and drunk people are drunk people. Why the zip code would enter into it is beyond me and inconsistent with all my experiences.

He ended up booking a trip to watch some tennis match (post #117), instead. Football fans are too crazy for him, it seems.

If he does go, I hope he takes my advice to get there early regardless of what clothing he is wearing. Make a day of it. Enjoy the game. And just try not to be too sad by an Eagles win. ;-)

Same goes for everyone else on here! Let's have an injury free game for both sides, which is competitive!

The only way I've ever considered going to a game in Philly is with my old roommates from college. Both are from Philly. I said to them though, honestly not to sound like a wuss, but if we go, one of you is coming with me everywhere I go. To the concession line, to the bathroom, everywhere. I also would always bring a jacket to cover up on your way to your car postgame.

This is really what it boils down to for me. The fact that this thread is a real discussion is reason enough for me to lose all interest in ever going to Philly to catch a Cowboys game.

Good natured banter with friends who are fans of opposing teams is one thing, being harassed and having beer/objects thrown at you by complete strangers is something else entirely.

Exactly.

And the fact is that there is a large portion of the Philly fans there who embrace this stupid culture of crap. They think it's cool that they're useless. It doesn't help when people make excuses for them or their behavior either.

Fantastic time at the game! I didn't wear any gear, but I saw plenty of people that did. They didn't seem to have any incidents.

you did the smart thing.
I imagine there were some mad eagle fans after that game.
Only thing is they may be more mad at their team and coach than the cowboys and their fans??

You don't want to wear opposing team stuff at an Oakland Raiders game, I can tell you that much..

In the meantime, in Houston, a guy was walking to a bar in Midtown in Cowboys jersey and after the Texans game he heard someone yell "cowboys!" and he turned around and was jumped. Literally woke up in an ambulance after they beat the crap out of him. Silver lining additional Texan fans called the ambulance for him. And I have had "friends" put memes on my facebook page laughing that Romo is injured. I don't see too much of a difference between Philly and Houston at this point...

Houston just sucks (as you know). Everything about that city is just terrible. I literally hate everything about it; I even hate the air there.

lol! Well, there are things to hate but I like that it's big enough for me without being cold like NY or Chicago and I like the restaurants and bars and I have my set of friends I wouldn't trade for the world. I really love Dallas but in some weird way it's smaller... like there's a little less variety. Austin is definitely smaller and too crowded. Everywhere else is.... smaller... lol.... blah can't have it all, I guess.
