Is it just me or is Chris Collinsworth a better announcer than before?

I look forward to Sunday night football games more than morning/afternoon games in part because of Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth. Anything is better than having to listen to Joe Buck.

Litterally aren't they all

To add:

Why is it that a lot, if not all of these "announcers/commentators/color analysts... Why do they all say the same things on flags? If it's a flag against the Cowboys, "that was a good call by the refs, Dallas player definitely did that_____"

But when flag is against Dallas opponent, "I really don't see what the ref saw there, looked like a good play by Dallas opponent_______"..... Dallas got a break there... Got lucky.

Fricken insanity!!

Praise is the biggest understatement of the year. We had to hear how Beckham is pretty much the best ever and unguardable for 3 quarters. I swear you could almost hear the tears of him and Al when he got hurt. Lovely.

Your post is funny.
However, I didn't hear the same thing you heard. It was a great catch. Possibly the best catch ever. And they're going to talk about it because they had video of him practicing the same catches before the game as part of his pre-game ritual.

You could also hear how upset they were in their tone when Dallas seized control in the 4th.

They didn't sound upset to me.

One of the biased broadcasts/officiated games I've seen in awhile.

I can't speak to your perceptions. I thought it was a well-done game. I understand that in promoting a game involving a 3-7 team versus a 7-3 team, you have to present it in such a way that the fans don't get bored and tune out. The Giants aren't that good this year, but they have a star in the making in Odell Beckham. The Cowboys have stars written all over them: Romo, Witten, Dez, DeMarco, the Offensive Line, Jerry Jones and, of course, the star on their helmets.
So what do you do when you have a better team playing a bad team? You hype the other team up to make it appear to be a contest, which it was based on how the Giants were playing and the Cowboys were sleep-walking for the first half.

I thought it was a great game, and I'm giving Al and Chris an A for their work, ESPECIALLY since the Cowboys won. :D

I didn't see one positive post on Collinsworth or Michaels during the game thread. Everytime either of their names came up it was negative. When the Cowboys were down 21-10 in the 3rd quarter and things were looking bleak the assault on both reached it's peak. Flip through the game thread and see if you can find one positive comment on either announcer while the Cowboys were losing. Winning always lightens everyone up and when Collinsworth credited the Cowboys after the win all of a sudden he's not such a bad guy after all. lol

It's hard to keep track of all the posts, but I know I commented on how they were taking the refs to task for missing a few calls that would have benefited the Cowboys. I really don't care about the announcers unless they're egregiously bad. I don't think Al or Cris were bad at all. I understand their role is to create interest in the game. The Giants stink this year. Yet, they're on Sunday night. Any announcer worth his salt is going to pump up a game and the bad team when a better team is playing a dog of a team.

You were "thinking it" too bad you didn't post it. I've seen mostly negative comments on Collinsworth from FANS. Personally I think he's very good and calls it like he sees it which is exactly what I do and FANS take offense to comments that don't favor the Cowboys. FANS try and spin the announcers are pulling for the other team because they're crediting them on a good play. Both Michaels and Collinsworth give the Cowboys credit when they're playing well and making good plays.

Collinsworth has annoyed me in the past when I've watched other teams play. The biggest frustration has been when he makes one point and then just keeps hammering on that same point over and over until you just want to say, "Shut up already, we get it!" He seems to have toned it down. Michaels seems to be the same old Al Michaels. He's all right -- not great, but all right. None of the announcer teams can touch the combination of Howard Cossell and Don Meredith.

In previous years, Collinsworth annoyed me so much any game he announced was met with multiple profanity-laced retorts from me at my TV set. Has he improved his announcing to be more capable and filled with less stupid remarks or have I just grown used to him?

lol, what? You didn't hear that guy pitching a tent in his shorts the entire game about the Giants and Beckham?

That was a one of a kind play. I've never seen anything like it in 4 decades of watching football. That's the one and only thing Collinsworth went on about, as did Michaels and everyone else who broadcast the game. In everything else, Chris made his points and moved on.

Summeral was a good one! He was excellent, so was Merideth, Cossell, Madden. I think Troy Aikman usually does a good job. Maybe we can agree Joe Theismann is the worst to have ever picked up a microphone.

It's like that every time the Giants play on SNF. Every time. They're the NFL's team, and Goodell's team, essentially. It's overboard. Thankfully Victor Cruz is out all year so we don't have to hear salsa/samba music every time they cut away to a commercial or he scores a touchdown. The bias at NBC is painful to witness.

I agree that salsa thing is the most obnoxious endzone celebration ever. I never hope for a player to get hurt, and I even felt bad for Cruz when he was hurt, but I will say I don't miss his stupid dance.

Amen to that. And I don't miss NBC playing salsa music on every one of his touchdowns on the broadcast - literally. Unprofessional garbage.

I don't care about the announcers I'm there to watch the game and for the most part they're all objective. If you're going to be a good announcer you have to put any biases aside and be objective. One of the main reasons Michaels and Collinsworth get such a bad rap by Cowboy FANS is because the Cowboys were losing a lot on Sunday Night and there wasn't much good to say about their performances. The Cowboys were going through a Sunday Night jinx where the team was playing poorly and Collinsworth and Michaels were just calling it like they saw it. Their honest comments that were generated by the teams inconsistent play riled up a lot of FANS. Most of what they said was right on the mark but many FANS were in denial. There's been several threads started criticizing both Michaels and Collinsworth over comments after Cowboy losses in which many claimed they hate the team.

What were they suppose to do praise an underachieving team that was playing poorly practically every time they covered a Cowboys game? It got so bad on Sunday Night for the Cowboys that Michaels and Collinsworth once joked that the Cowboys probably hate seeing them and documented all the teams Sunday Night losses. Even Aikman has been criticized by Cowboy FANS for being critical of the teams performance during telecasts. They feel because he played for the Cowboys he's suppose to cheerlead for them during telecasts. lol Last night after Beckham's amazing catch a few FANS during the game chat felt Michaels and Collinsworth went over the top talking about it. I made a comment during the chat that it was the greatest catch I had ever seen and some FAN responded back telling me to shut my bleep hole and go to a Giants board and root for them.

One thing that's become very evident on Cowboy boards is if an announcer says good things about the Cowboys giving the impression they're pulling for the team they're considered a good announcer and if they say anything negative that a FAN may construe as hate they're not a good announcer. With the win last night the mood is very good here today so what do you know the first positive thread ever on Chis Collinsworth who credited the team after the win. He received nothing but hate during the game when the Cowboys were losing but after crediting the team for battling back and winning he's now seen in a better light by a few until of course the next Cowboys loss on Sunday night.

I thought the Michaels and Collinsworth were very unprofessional rooting and gushing about Giants plays and then deadpanning disappointment on Dallas plays and successes. That was one of the more unprofessional performances I have ever seen.

Last night he was beyond annoying. I think he's the most annoying announcer for the nfl right now.

he was only annoying because he really wanted the Giants to win because of the Catch. It losses a little bit of its meaning if it comes in a losing effort.

Some like Collinsworth and some don't it's that way with most analysts who do NFL games. If you listen to anyone long enough they can all become a little annoying at times. There's those who found John Madden annoying you can get tired of someone after hearing their shtick for 30 years. All of them have things they repeat over and over where you want to say "Shut up already." You can't please everyone they're obviously all doing something right to maintain their jobs in the booth year after year. There's a lot of competition out there for NFL booth and studio jobs it's a gig a lot of players and coaches who are out of the game would like to get. For everyone that loves what you do there's going to be some that don't. You're going to have lovers and haters it's part of putting yourself and opinions out there.

As good as Cosell, Gifford and Meredith were not everyone loved them. My feeling has always been if someone thinks you're terrible at what you do even though you have one of the top spots on the mountain that's their problem. You have people who do nothing but sit behind a monitor all day at a job they hate bashing those who've made something of themselves at a craft they probably think they could do better at. Twitter has open the door for everyday people to do just that spew hate. I haven't checked to see if Michaels or Collinsworth have Twitter accounts but if they do I'm sure they get a lot of grief from Cowboy FANS.
