Is it out of the question that Escobar turns into a poor man's Gronk?

Escober seems to run good routes and get open- he would easily be a top 20 TE if he actually played.

Im not going to enjoy seeing ANOTHER one of our failed second round picks helping out another team when that time comes for his contract to be over/

To hope that G. Escobar turns into a poor mans Gronk

Not unless he grows a bunch. Gronks advantage is based on his size. He's just taller and bigger which gives him a matchup advantage against anyone. You can double team him and still lose.

I think he falls just short

On a per game basis, Gronk is the most productive TE in NFL history.

No player currently in the NFL, including Dez, catches as many TDs per game as Gronk.

It just isn't realistic to compare Escobar to someone like Gronk. That's not a slam on Escobar, it's just a testament to Gronk's greatness.

Wait what?

Escobar 6'6 260

Gronkowski 6'6 265

Even just looking at them you can tell they are around the same size.

Now Gronkowski is a much more fluid athlete.

Gronkowski is one of those generational talents that only come around once every 10-20 years, so no.

Do I think Escobar could be effective in the way that Gronkowski is in the passing game? Maybe. We might not ever know since it seems like Witten will be playing at the same level until he's 40.

It's pretty unlikely he will ever be the featured target like Gronk is used in NE. Way to far down the food chain.

Those still calling him a wasted pick remember this - he is playing behind an iron man. If something would have happened to JWit and he was down a few games we would be thrilled Escobar is on the roster.

But isn't the fact that JWit is an iron man make Escobar's selection even more a wasted pick? Why couldn't we use the pick on someone who actually had a chance to contribute as a starter?
And I doubt very seriously Escobar is anywhere close to Witten, let alone Gronk.

I've heard him referred to is that...but in this context for a title to a blog entry you might want to use his whole name. The way you said it could be misleading.

I think the FO is still sore over the TE fiasco that marched through here when Novacek retired due to back issues. The irony is back then they couldn't find a TE with talent no matter where they looked, now they find them but the guy they expect to just retire all of a sudden looks like he can still play years. They should just ask him every off season, you playing 1 more year or should we draft your replacement.

Escobar plays more like gates or gonzales.

Those around here calling Escobar a wasted pick probably wouldn't be saying that if Witten had been injured and missed some games. It's an important position that requires depth.

Also, Brady's uncommon touch, accuracy, speed of reading coverages and releasing the ball is a huge reason for Gronk's success,,, just like it was Hernandez's.
