Is it wrong to be ok with DQ moving on?

I just hope he doesn't get too many interviews, aka distractions, during the playoffs. If he goes, he goes. Just hate to see if he's spending hours multiple times a week interviewing for Seattle, Washington etc, instead of game planning.

While I appreciate the massive improvement in our D during his time, I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the undersized high risk against the run approach. Would prefer bigger linebackers and not playing man coverage all the time. I do think DQ has a presence and commands respect from the players. But I think it's those games against the 49ers, the Bills that makes me wonder if the Cowboys could use a change in defensive philosophy. What say you?
I disagree to an extent. Quinn took a terrible D and turned them into a very good D that generates turnovers and forces negative plays. There are some holes at LB, but some of that is more of a personel issue than a Dan Quinn issue. If anything, he's had to help solve the LB shortage and plug in players that can play in the scheme. I do think we will miss Dan Quinn if he decides to leave and will leave a hole.

However, it doesn't mean the defense falls off a cliff. If philosphy and the core players stay in place with a good defensive mind understudy in charge it can still be a good defense. I also believe change can sometimes be healthy as the more film you put out there the more opposing offenses understand your plays and tendencies which can lower effectivness.

Personally, I'm not at a spot where I would view Dan Quinn leaving as a postive.

No, it's the reality of NFL coaching. Every first officer wants to prove himself in the big chair.

I can only speak for myself. I am not okay with DG moving on but I realize he may want to give head coaching another try. So I see it as a real possibility and have rationalized that as a potential reality. The Cowboys will be fine.

I'd rather him leave now before we really get tired of him, he's done wonders

It's certainly not wrong, and to be honest i would be very curious how a different D coordinator would come in and utilize certain guys on this defense, especially a Micah Parsons.

That said though you have to be very careful what you wish for....despite its flaws this is still a top defense in the league, and the next DC to come through could be another Mike Nolan.
This would be an easy Defense to lose as a new Coach if you're from outside and start to stumble. 3 years of success and the same unit. All very loyal to DQ.

There’s nothing wrong with Dan Quinn’s philosophy. Personally I feel we are much better off if he stays.

At the same time. If he leaves, he leaves. There’s not much we can do about it. If you have good coordinators you always run the risk of losing them to a head coaching job.

I think he's a good DC. Depends who they replace him with.

I'd be real hesitant to expect better. I think the best course of action is adding a couple players to his vision of the defense.

I don't recall Seattle's run d being bad during Quinn's time there. I'm sure Carroll was a part of that though.

He's earned the second chance to be a HC in the NFL. I think it was just biding time before the inevitable and the Seahawks job is ideal. Oh well. Let's all do the superstitious magical ritual and hope that Jerry doesn't hire another Monte Kiffin or Mike Nolan.

It's not like we have much of a choice.

Of course you can have your own opinion and not want him back but his undersized LBs were a product of injuries. Years past he didn't have that strategy. He didn't come in wanting to play Bell at LB. He started him because of what he saw out of the players on the roster. That's actually the type of DC that you should want to keep. Someone who can adapt and change things and still make them work. What we need to hope for is that the FO can find bigger players at the LB position that can do what he wants.

It could be better with the right coach, but it also could be worse, much worse. Think Monte Kiffin worse, or Rob Ryan worse, or Rod Marinelli worse or Mike Nolan worse. Do you trust the Cowboys to get it right?
