Witten has had a very poor season by his standards. He's on pace to have by far the worst yards per catch of any full season in his career. He has one touchdown. He isn't making any big plays down the seam like he has throughout his career. In fact, he's making about as many negative plays for us as good ones these days. It could be a blip, but something is definitely wrong with him this year. He's young chronologically, but this is his seventh NFL season, and the hits are adding up. I wonder if he's already on the down side of his career.

No. I think he's just got a lot of DC's trying to take him out of games cause he's got the best chemistry with Romo.

Funny I told my wife this today. She's a Cowboy fan and a big Witten fan and even she notices. Something's is different with him. He does a solid job but is not a playmaker on this team this year.

Hopefully he doesn't have the "everyone loves me" mind set and is becoming complacent.
_____________

Witten used to run up the seam better than anyone. All he does now is run outs and then gets immediately tackled.

Witten's comment after the game:

"They put Woodson on me and I couldn't get off him"

Interesting -- goes to prove the Packers thought the key to stopping the Cowboy's offense was shutting down Witten.

Woodson's a great player. Packers did their homework if they knew that taking Witten out of the game would make it difficult for us.

Of course he's not ready for the glue factory yet.

But as others have said, I wonder if he has some kind of injury we don't know about. As soon as he catches the ball, he almost acts like he's scared for anyone to tackle him. He immediately puts out the stiffarm not to fight for more yards, but like he's trying to keep people off his legs... Or something.

We knew this going into the game. This was reported by GB press all week that they would put Woodson on Witten to take him out of the game. Harris for the most part was on Austin and Williams had GB's T.Williams on him all game. So basically for whatever reasons, we failed to capitalize on our top 2 WRs going against GB's #2 and #3 CBs all game.

I don't think so, but for some reason he hasn't been getting the pass down the middle of the field this year. Everything seems to be underneath. They used to go down the seam all the time.

A good (consistent) running game will do wonders for Witten and the rest of the receivers.

Well that is simple. When TO was cut the obvious person to bear the grunt of his coverage demands was Witten.

No more easy pass catching lanes. You think they are doubling Miles and Roy?

When Bill Parcells came to Dallas, he said that 2 positions (I believe he qualified his point with respect to RBs) take the most beating: strong safety and TE.

When I consider how a hard-hitting safety like Roy Williams (probably our best player when Parcells first came here) quickly deteriorated to a shadow of his former self, I always think of Parcells' comment. We're kidding ourselves if we think the same can't happen to Witten. Think back over his career. He's taken a vicious beating. I remember the 2 hits he took against Baltimore last season, the hit that broke his jaw in his first or 2nd year, and many others. Watching him this year, he's clearly lost a step and has very little ability to power through tacklers. Used to be when he got hit, he rarely eluded a tackler, but was able to push through one for those extra few yards. Now, he seems to be easily tackled by CBs who are outweighed by 75 pounds.

It may just be an injury bugging him, but the notion that there isn't a a real, permanent decline can't be discounted.

people dont want to hear that but its true, and it was easily ignored during the win streak, and miles big games, its simply the truth.
