I would not be opposed to seeing him come to Dallas, assuming we don't give up too much. I've never really thought that Jacksonville was the place for his talents. I know that when Byron was there Matt was a little more effective than with Garrard. I think a change of scenery can do good for some players, maybe it is what Matt needs? We definitely run an offense with plenty of opportunities for him to flourish as a deep threat.

I agree.

And I would also factor in that Garrard is a rather conservative passer to say the least.

Did he have few interceptions? Yep. But he also had few touchdown passes as well.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Matt Jones had a career day with someone other than Garrard passing the ball.

Cowboys have been pretty good in turning around players whose reputation for not contributing much/working hard has been questioned. You cite Jay Novacek was one of those who improved after leaving the Cards for the Cowboys; went to pro bowl with us. Obviously Leonard "Bigg" Davis is also another one; went to pro bowl with us. But how about WR Terry Glenn who Pats sent to the Packers (and after one year with them) the Packers turned around and traded him to the Cowboys for a 6th rounder. Seattle didn't resign Hamlin (maybe questions long term about his head injury?) so Cowboys signed him; went to the pro bowl with us. Biggest example is Terrell Owens who Eagles couldn't wait get rid; he became our best WR & went to the pro bowl.

I'm sure there players we got that didn't improve but can't remember them because they probalby already gone. But if the Cowboys do "due diligence" , changing teams/city can revitalize the player's career. Jones, as a former Arkansas player, would be somebody Jerry could find out a lot about. If Cowboys wanted him, I'd wait til he was a FA. OTOH, Jerry gets good info from Arkansas people & good vibes re Jones (do we have anybody on our team //players or coaches// who worked/play in Jax & can give us the skinny? In any case I wouldn't give up anything more then a conditional 7th rounder based on his contribution in 08.

First off, Novacek was already a productive receiver with the Cardinals before coming to Dallas. Second, even if you do decide to credit the Cowboys coaching staff for Novacek's success in Dallas, how does that matter today when the coaching staff is completely different? Davis wasn't exactly a washout with the Cards--he was a perfectly good lineman. The Cardinals dump good players all the time to keep their profits as high as possible; that's a Bidwell family tradition. Glenn played pretty well for GB, and had played well with New England. From everything I can tell, Matt Jones just stinks. He was a first-round pick, and therefore his team wants to play him--otherwise he's just a ton of money down a rathole. That said, he can't even beat out the terrible wideouts that Jacksonville is currently fielding.

Jones was a huge reach when he was drafted, he's be a reach in a trade. If he gets cut, bringing him in for a look wouldn't do any harm, but I wouldn't expect much.

Matt Jones should have been drafted in the fourth round as a project like Stanback.

Jones wanted his payday and he got it, he couldn't give a **** if he had to take one.

In what Universe?

Hurd just can't get any separation. He tries hard but he is just too limited physically to ever amount to much. Did he even manage 20 receptions last year as the 3rd WR? I think Crayton got about 40 the year before despite missing time with injury and having TO, Glenn and Witten to share with.

Jones may not be great but Hurd is pretty damn limited. I'll be surprised if he makes the team. At least Austin and Stanback have more tools and can return kicks.

No way Austin makes the team over Hurd. You can talk all you want about tools, but all Austin ha been able to accomplish so far was that PI call against GB (and some drops).

But FWIW, Matt Jones is better than Hurd, but I'd rather just go with what we have for now. Guys like Roy Williams, Boldin and CJohnson, likely won't be available, so we just have to play with the hand we have now
