Is Miles trade asset now?

His contract is too expensive to trade.

This.. Isn't his contract structured so that he is paid close to nothing last year and this year because of the bonus they go penalized for and then next year his number blows up again? If so, no one is taking him based on next years number, including Dallas. It would be a trade for this season only, which has limited value. Maybe to Green Bay for a 6th/7th due to their injuries.

Then you just change the pecking order of the receivers. You don't get rid of Miles altogether mid-season. ESPECIALLY if this offense is going to be trotting out there in this spread look with 4 receivers on a regular basis. We'll need that depth later in the year. Guys get banged up.

I understand, changing the depth chart around is a good idea... But I wasn't saying to cut Miles, cutting him doesn't make a lot of sense. I was just saying he probably isn't going to draw any interest in a trade.

He is not needed. Id like to get some Dline help for him. I also would get MJD for a 5th. The guy obviously hates playing there. Hes only 28.

If we can trade Miles for a DE that would be sweet.

Just like trying to release Ratliff right now, I don't think the Cowboys can trade Austin without having to release numerous other players from the team because the Cowboys do not have the cap space to absorb the "roll-into" bonus hit the cap would need to take from trading the player.

As a side note I want nothing to do with MJD.

Same answer as last week and the week prior and the week prior to that. NO, nobody wants to trade for an overpriced often injured wide receiver.

If traded, the dead money from his contract would accelerate into the 2013 cap which would put the Cowboys over the cap limit.

I would not call him an "asset". He's pretty much worthless on the open market. A highly injured player who looked very slow last night and completely out of it. 6th rounder is the best we could do. Maybe 7th. Especially seeing he's a FA after this season and a team can sign him without giving any picks up for him.

Keep him for slot depth.

No, they need him for depth. Consider his fate after the season.

completely agree. we could maybe get a 5th or 6th for him from atlanta maybe? not worth it. if either dez or twill go down that leaves too small on the outside without miles. harris isnt an outside receiver.

Austin still attracts attention. He's got size/strength over Beasley. But to his credit, Beasley has a knack for getting open. It's a tough call. I think IF TWill develops as a legitimate outside WR that can stretch the field, then Austin may become expendible. If his output were like Welker's, OK keep him. But with injury issues, etc...I really cant' see keeping him here after this season.

I'd actually like to see Harris get more work in the slot. He's got burst and pretty good vision, so think he could actually be a decent slot guy. That's if Dallas is willing to put/keep a high priced player on the sidelines.

TWill had 27 yds, while Beasley had 44. Yes, Miles didn't do anything, but the td throw to him was not on target, and other than that, he didn't get many chances. Romo wasn't exactly stellar in the 2nd haf.

Don't know how the throw could've been better. Within 2 inches I guess. Hall made a great play, but Romo gave Miles a chance to make a play. Miles didn't do it. Even hit him in the hands. Miles didn't make the most of an opportunity like Beasley and Williams are doing. Dez would've gone over the top like it was his ball all along. Miles wanted Romo to do all the work.

Atlanta, New England, Green Bay and San Francisco to name just a few are all teams who have lost a receiver or two for some amount of time this season. It happens. That is why you keep quality guys around and not just dispose of them. You never know when Dez or somebody else will get injured. Miles should stay and he will be a big contributor to the offense this season.

Just keep him until this season is over. i would hate to get rid of him and then Williams, Dez get hurt and we don't have that depth.

I think we should keep him for insurance, then make a decision in the off season. If the phone rang and someone offered a 4th rd pick, then you jump on it, but I wouldn't actively shop him right now. There are rumors that the Giants may be willing to trade Nicks before the deadline. What kinda value would Nicks vs Austin have for a team looking for a WR?

It's really easy to say Miles isn't needed if you're just going by the last two games. But even thought TWill and Beasley look good, if one of them gets hurts, or their game goes in the tank, then we definitely still need Miles.
