one question though:

The number of times there is a free guy who takes a shot at Romo while someone (OL or RB/TE) is blocking air is mind-boggling.

so are the number of bad reads and missed open receivers he has now

After years and years of looking for Aikman's replacement I can't believe we finally get a good one and after only 2+ years of starting people question if he is the answer.

There is no doubt he has the ability, but there are serious, legitimate concerns of whether or not the guy will do all the other little things to make himself a truly elite player. He makes way too many mistakes and IMO, he took a step back this yr as a player. Maybe some of it was the injuries, but next yr will be a big year for him. You cant keep coming up small in virtually every important game and continue to get a pass.

Honestly, I'm not overly confident in Romo. Hopeful? Yes. Confident? Somewhat.

I was more or less referring to the fact that the comparisons to Manning are easily justifiable. We're basically discussing whether or not we should be giving Romo more time as he's failed late in the season in three consecutive seasons. The exact same things were said of Peyton Manning, and for someone to not grasp how that comparison is viable...."is beyond me".

Whether or not their careers pan out in similar fashion remains to be seen, but to bail on him now may be a mistake the like of which the Colts would have made if they had bailed on Manning after three years. We ride it out....but it may be time to spend a little more than a late round pick on a young QB....just in case.

He's always had bad reads. He's a gunslinger. It comes with the territory.

The missed receivers didn't start happening with regularity until he got banged up. I'm hoping that stops with his returning health.

thanks for the honest reply.

the reason i can't compare romo to peyton is because one takes the game a bit more seriously than the other one.

i know what you are saying though about not giving up yet.

hope you have a great year tomson.

I want to debunk that comment.

You don't complete over 60% of your passes if you make bad reads.

Peyton is a study-aholic and people were on him saying it was bringing him down.

The truth is no one knows what the perfect system is for fun and study to win it all.

Well he didn't make bad reads in the 60%, but he did somewhere in the 40%. ;)

I just meant that he's always had the propensity to throw an ill-advised pass here and there. I don't mean that it was the norm.

He's put up some nice stats, but hasn't delivered in the three most important games of his career. Is this an aberration, or is the guy a stat padder who will never deliver when it really counts?

Just a gut feeling, but if we don't plan to have a replacement in place, I don't think he'll take the next step forward. He'll treat it as a 9 to 5 job and coast on his talent.

So I think Dallas needs to draft a serious QB candidate next year, to keep Romo uncomfortable enough to know he has to earn his job.

This is one area where Parcells is right. No one should think they've been given their job.

David.

no doubt in my mind that Romo is the answer

put him in an offense that suits his strengths and he will light it up again

still will make the bone-headed decision at times

Yup. Go to his strengths, get WRs to understand it isn't all about them but the win and he will be fine.

Dont compare Romo to Manning...The only thing romo has going for himself right now is that he does have some skills. But as far as brains and Leadership he does not. Atlast not that He's shown. Untill Romo Wins a Playoff game and doesnt choke and make bone head mistakes lets try and keep this realistic ok.
and guess what? I bet someone somewhere said the same thing about Peyton circa 2001-2

They lost to the Jets 41-0 in 2002. Care to think what people were saying about Maning then?

The next season he took them to the AFC title game.

Can Romo do the same thing? Only time will tell.

this standing in the pocket, waiting 5 seconds for your Wrs to get open, no running game to help has got to go

Romo needs a running game and an offensive line to protect him in order for him to be affective. Aikman wasn't near as mobile as Romo but got the job done because he had Emmitt Smith to take the pressure off of him.
