Is Roy Williams (SS) really done?

I'd like to see him come back for one more try. I also don't think he'd be hanging around so much if he thought any otherwise.

Funny thing is that we have Davis playing back there, and yet I don't see too many deep balls being completed for run-away touch downs. Something happened to Roy, I don't know what it was, but it's gone.

Keith can't cover anyone either. I think he's a great special teams player and he's doing a good job filling in. I think the improvement we are seeing is due to a better pass rush.

I said this in another thread that I think there is an 80% chance Roy is back. I think Jerry doesn't want to give up on him and Wade still thinks that there is a place for him as a run stopper in the defense. Wade is getting a lot out of players ever since he took over the play calling. I am sure that he could come up with some exotic blitz schemes tailored for Roy. The problem with Roy is that he doesn't see the play develop well and reacts to slow. That is something that cannot be taught. If he restructures his contract, he will be back. I think Jerry will still listen to trade offers and may pull the trigger if given an offer he cannot refuse, like a 1st or 2nd round pick. But chances are, Roy will be back, at least for another year.

You can't honestly tell me Keith Davis or Tre Battle scare anyone in coverage.

Roy has a history of giving up big plays but these dweebs aren't any better and might be worse.

Reading comprehension - the reason they haven't been "tested" is because the QBs don't have any time to look downfield - they are getting sacked/pressured/hurried and the receivers are covered by the CBs tighter. There have been numerous times from watching games where it looks very much like our safeties are out of position, but teams cannot take advantage of it when the DL is playing so well.

Gone or not gone...hmm.

Let me ask you this, who wouldn't want the old Roy of 3 years ago playing on this defense now ? Man, we are playing lights out now...Add the Roy of 3 years ago and no offense would want to face us.
That guy is gone for good, unfortunately.

I want to see Roy playing now that we're finally having a pass rush like we should have the past 2 years. I just think he'd get back to playmaking like he used to. Of course it would have to involve some passion from him and getting back to his old ways of hard hits and reckless run stopping.

Yeah , I think he'll be back , and I hope he'll be back . I just hope that Dallas also drafts Michael Hamlin out of Clemson in the 3rd to go along with him . They'd be a perfect compliment to each other in certain situations .

Why other teams have not taken some shots down the seam is beyond me.

Its where this defense is most vulnerable. A vet QB will expose that. P. Manning would expose it, his brother not so much. I'd bet that you'd even see McFlubb taking shots with Desean. As a matter of fact, I guarentee it.

They haven't "taken shots" because they can't. I don't care how good your QB is, when he's on his back, getting hit as he throws, etc, he can't complete deep balls - there is no time for the play to develop. When your DL is playing like ours is, it always makes the secondary look that much better.

Yeah , but you can also make the argument that the line is getting such good pressure because the secondary is covering well and giving them more time to get to the QB . Let's just say both units are palying real well and have really come together as a defense . Dallas has 53 sacks on the season and are 6 sacks ahead of the Steelers . That's already a higher total than any team in the NFL had in 16 games last season . Flacco's been sacked 39 times this year , and McNabb 49 . Dallas could be looking at a 60 sack season before this is all over , and possibly the all time sack leader . GO WADE , Go Wade , go wade ♫ .

Jerry has kept him thus far. I really don't see any reason for Roy not to retire as a Cowboy, perhaps 5 or 10 years down the line.

10 years down the line?! Good god man! He'll be collecting social security by then.

Truth be told, I don't think I would want to take the chance on Roy Williams in coverage again. I've had enough of walk in long bomb TDs to Roy's assignment, and then Roy pointing fingers at his team mates. Could cost us games in the future like it has in the past.

Roy Williams, Marcus Spears, and Bobby Carpenter - will no longer be Cowboys after this season.

Hope we can get a backup QB out of the deal.

I do think both DBs and front seven are playing off each other. The closer man coverage underneath while still in a zone along with the more exotic stuff is protecting the safeties as much as possible and putting more burden on the nickel/dime CBs. Along with pressure we are seeing great pass coverage.

I think RW has a future here in this scenario. I've been a vocal critic of him and I think no matter what we need to draft a cover safety. Unless the staff sees that person here already like ??Ball, Battle, Brown, or even Hamlin. The team needs two cover safeties and two "strong" safeties even if they are more or less doing the same job. Wade can make a SS more of a SS with this much pressure. He has lots of options.

If RW can continue to work on his coverage and play behind that front seven and with those DBs/special packages then I think he will excel. And I agree he could probably play Burnetts role. Burnett may be able to play it better but he can't compete with RW as a safety.

There's a place for a player like RW on this team and I personally think he could excel.

No Spears isn't leaving although if the other DL that aren't talked about can play for Canty then he may be gone. Spears is under contract for next year and is not going anywhere. He shouldn't go anyway. His play is helping make this defense very good right now.

Just the fact that the defense is playing so well in his absence does not bode well for him. His stock has been going down ever since he signed that extension a couple of years ago. It's a shame... My 31 and 38 jerseys will be relegated to closet duty, and turkeyday & superbowl football games in the park.
