Truth be told, I don't think I would want to take the chance on Roy Williams in coverage again. I've had enough of walk in long bomb TDs to Roy's assignment, and then Roy pointing fingers at his team mates. Could cost us games in the future like it has in the past.

2005 season home opener loss to the Skins.. 14-13... on the night that the Triplets were inducted into the ring of honor. Santana burned us for two TD's at the end of the game... Both occurred on Roy's assignment. :banghead:

It now becomes is he worth what he is making and the salary cap hit we will take letting him go.

That is the issue with Roy he is payed like a great safety and he has been while good.

Yet funny the defense is playing great right now and we been running out how many different safeties this year

I said this in another thread that I think there is an 80% chance Roy is back. I think Jerry doesn't want to give up on him and Wade still thinks that there is a place for him as a run stopper in the defense. Wade is getting a lot out of players ever since he took over the play calling. I am sure that he could come up with some exotic blitz schemes tailored for Roy. The problem with Roy is that he doesn't see the play develop well and reacts to slow. That is something that cannot be taught. If he restructures his contract, he will be back. I think Jerry will still listen to trade offers and may pull the trigger if given an offer he cannot refuse, like a 1st or 2nd round pick. But chances are, Roy will be back, at least for another year.

We don't want players that you have to hide!! That's why we have a lot better right now without him, and can find others. Also, we want players we don't have to hide. As much as I liked him the first two years, the fact is, He sucks, He sucks bad!!! It's way way more expensive to have him on the field than the expense of the money we lose releasing him, I'll tell ya that. Darren Woodson was a lose, not Roy.

When Roy was allowing these passes was when our D as a whole was in shambles, and our DEFENSE and defensive scheming was allowing huge passes down field.

When other teams allow huge passes their strong safety's arn't held accountable every time, but with this team he was. We expected much more out of him and he couldn't deliver with such a shakey defense. He also had many great plays in coverage, but as our defense declined, his play declined.

Reiterating the fact Roy Williams went out before the defense turned around during the Tampa game. This is when Wade Phillips announced he would be more involved. An addition of 38 to this defense could surpass the Pitt defense assuming they stick w/ the strategies and defense recently.

I don't see RW being used the same as before. I'm not certain he's the safety we need but I'm certain he would be better with that front seven in front of him.

I do think he could be used differently to his and our benefit but I'm just pulling that out of you know where.

BTW, most teams use a lot of zone defense these days. There are always 'seams' in a zone where coverage thins out before entering another's domain. Up the middle in a cover two is a good place but not the only seam(s) in a defense.

Are we talking about the same safety that I seen always behind the enemy or missing a tackle? I don't see how a better defense helps his problem out.

Bill Parcells didn't agree with you. He stated that Aaron Glenn was at fault.

Besides not being able to afford to cut him, I don't see how Roy Williams is back next season.

He was simply not the same player and for some to insinuate that his presence would put this defense over the top is somewhat odd.

What would put this defense over the top is an opportunistic Safety that seems to be around the ball whether it is intercepting it or scooping up a fumble.

We will see a guy like that this Saturday playing for the Ravens.

he'll be back.

Big-hearted jerra will want to bring him back, cheap, and play backup and on running situations.
And there is always the chance RW regains some of his confidence and old form.

I think he will come back.

Even with his shortcomings hes still a better player than the guys currently occupying his spot.

Hes not hurting the team being out there. He has always given up plays but he has always made plays.

I was really looking forward to seeing him out there this year. I refuse to believe that he played last year at 100% and with the reports of him having a pretty contact-filled camp, I was thinking he was going to start moving back towards the player we all hoped he would be.

I don't know his contract numbers but he cannot be making so much that it is absolutely impossible to keep him. Dallas is well under the cap and even though there are big names coming up for FA, I don't think Roy becomes a cap casualty.

I know Adam has said in the past that the team could save money by cutting him whenever. If thats the case, his cap hit really can' be all that big.

I guess the savings this year would have been around 3.7M but then it would have cost an extra 4.4 next year. Going into next offseason, I don't think those numbers would move a whole lot. You'd probably save a little more next offseason and spend a little less in 2010 but would those savings equal enough to get you a starting quality replacement? Not through FA. Not anymore. Best you can really do is hope that you can get a guy through the draft. Given that Dallas doesn't have a whole lot of picks, I don't think they will focus that pick on any single position. Getting the BPA is probably how it goes.

Roy still has value and is still a quality player. Hamlin is having a down year compared to last year and who knows if a little of that has to do with who is back there with him. I love KD but his heart can't make up for all that he lacks physiccally. It does a hell of a lot but at some point you can only get so much out of what you have.

I hope he stays. I still think he has some good days ahead of him. Get him healthy and another year in the system and I think he could be a playmaker again.

This defense would be even better right now with Roy in there. It's really sad when some people can't get over their hate and look at the bigger picture.

We are looking at the bigger picture. Roy Williams has stunk for a few seasons now. His head just isn't in this anymore, especially after the Roy Williams rule took away his favorite method of tackling.

Some of you guys are just nostalgic for the college Roy Williams, and that guy isn't coming back. It should be painfully obvious by now.

Both of them were the results of really stupid defensive calls by Zimmer more than anything else.

Oh, and Jansen getting away with gang rape on Ellis on the first TD.

Funny thing is that we have Davis playing back there, and yet I don't see too many deep balls being completed for run-away touch downs. Something happened to Roy, I don't know what it was, but it's gone.

Totally different scheming. This team is playing way more man-press coverage and is attacking off the line much better. I think Roy could flat-out dominate in this type of defense, given the potential he has always had. Maybe this time off will allow his shoulder to completely heal.
