Is The "Tough Schedule" Already A Built In Excuse For Garrett?

I remember the days when the schedule didn't scare us. We just took on all comers....Now, it seems we just search all over for excuses. It's kind of sad.

My mindset has not changed. I look forward to seeing the Cowboys compete vs teams like the 9ers, seahawks and saints. I know not many give us a chance in hell, I like that even better.

I don't understand why everyone is harping over the schedule. We all new who (division wise) they were playing. The only thing that was unveiled was the time, day, month, etc.

Because the draft is yet to happen and Training camp does not start until July 22. I guess we could start a new topic that seldom is talked about like Jerry, Garrett or Romo. lol

Don't get me wrong, I am still very excited come game time. I was mainly talking about people who make excuses before the season is even started just by looking at the schedule.

It shouldn't be an excuse. The team already knew that it was playing the NFC West and AFC South well before the schedule was released based on the format of what NFC teams play AFC teams (revolves every 4 years) same with the interconference games.

This team knew the opponents that they were going to have to face and regardless of when and where they play each other, oh well...too bad...get your team prepared, gameplan and make the right decisions during the game.

Done with excuses for players and personnel both. Play the teams that are placed in front of you and do everything you can to get the victory. Losses don't bother me if it's a game where the other team was just simply better. But to lose to Green Bay, Detroit, NO and Chicago in the way that we did...that has nothing to do with the scheduling, just bad game management and bad execution by the players.

Long story short - suck it up and play the teams on your schedule.

Thing I have noticed with schedules over the years is you don't know how hard or easy it is until the games are being played. Yes on paper right now this looks tough but nothing is a given. Either way the schedule is never an excuse. To a certain extent things like injuries are somewhat only because key players going down on any team can have a major impact on a club. It is not always how many injuries but who and were the injuries are taking place. Bottom line for me is Garrett job is to get this team winning games if at the end of 2014 he has failed then I would hope Jerry would not renew his contract.

In 56 regular season games, Jason Garrett has a .194 career winning percentage against teams above 500.

That means that he loses 4 out of every 5 games against teams above 500...............................that is laughably bad.

When the only teams you can beat are the Western Omahas of the NFL, it really is quite telling of your coaching ability (or lack of).

Now this is a factual post that serves a purpose.

I don't see this as so tough a schedule. Of course there is a couple of loses SF and Sea hawks.
But the rest I see as toss ups. If we draft some decent players I see better then 8 and 8.
There is a lot of positives in the coaching staff. I know there are moans going around the board already.
Chip Kelley is going to be tough and might win the division but we're better then Wash and Giants.

I see the point but the Beast appears to make the fatal mistake that many do as viewing the record
as a permanent indicator of the future. Nothing is static and unchanging things change from moment to moment.
If things were permanent nothing would change and Seattle would have never become Super Bowl champions.

The post was factual and although I'd have left the last out and let the reader make their own mind up it is still a logical post. I understand your point though.

It's due to Goodell moving the draft back and there is nothing else to talk about. You know being negative is easier than positive when it comes to the Cowboys.

I think the whole Dallas organization has given plenty of us, even the hard core, a lot to be negative of. Regardless of our opinions one way or the other, look at the records, the team has a whole, each position, than defend it, and see whats left. Its not jsut being a negative person, there is a lot that Dallas or specifially JJ has yet to have to answer to, and a lot of it is easy stuff.

8-8 for the last three seaons is permanent, whether we want to agree with it or not, its in the history books and will always be looked at as indictator right or wrong. some teams had worse records and won it all, and some had better records and left out of the playoffs. Its a system, a train of thought, and lots of factors that determine not just the records but how the whole brand is judged. Whether destorying dynasties or flat out changing the game to get more viewership, the person or persons at the helm have dictated the course and all have to ride out the storm.

Most tend to think the schedule will be tough on the Boys this coming season. Last season the defense injury bug was the excuse. This year the Horrible, Last Place Defense, that lost Ware & Hatcher is already being used by some to lower expectations.

Will this "tough schedule" with 4 of our last 6 games on the road be an automatic excuse for Red _ if we dont make the playoffs again?

I think Romo's back saved Garrett last year.

Excuses? What excuses? For the better part of 17 years mediocrity has been the norm. You'll get your new coach at some point but it won't change the outcome, that's already cooked into the books. :(

Schedules are tough lol. I'm sure there's no team saying "Well we have a easy schedule so we should make it in the post season". So every year the Cowboys face a tough schedule we should just concede and say "Well......we have a tough schedule so we don't stand a chance so we're going to give you the year off Garrett...". That's not how it works. Especially before the season. If you look back at the season and feel you've underachieved than Garrett needs to go. If you look back and think Garrett did just as good as any other head coach would've done you should retain him.

I get the frustration but again this record is NOT permanent and it never will be. It's an impossibility of reality. Three years is nothing.
I don't disagree with the direction of some of the stewardship of the NFL. The NFL has become the big dog and figuring out more revenue is the name of the game.

Last year at this time we would have thought the Falcons would've been a tough draw but look what happened to them. Anything can happen and I'm not really into making excuses. I am into making this team, specifically the defense, better and we have a long way to go until game one.
