Is there a cap hit for cutting Carr this offseason?

He covered two of the best receivers in the league all over the field the last two weeks in Beckham and Evans. I'm telling you, if that were Brown or Scandrick, the stats would have been crazy. Carr is no super star, but he's our best CB, and he'd have a starting job next week if released today.

we just need to draft another corner like brown and we can get rid of carr and not have to pay out so much money to guy that is playing no better then an undrafted player plays.
You don't want Brown doing Carr's job. If Brown was anywhere close, they'd have played sides like with Mo instead of Carr following Beckham and Evans all over the field as he did first time all season the past two weeks.

Anyone who's played sports will tell you that once the ball is snapped, it's all instincts. Carr wasn't making a cost-benefit analysis, he was playing football. You're not being reasonable.

No offense, but this is somewhat BS as well. Instincts are great but in all sports you need to have situational awareness. If it's 4th and 1 from the 50 yard line and the team runs a trick play and you intercept the ball 30 yards down the field, that's a stupid play. You can try to blame it on "instincts" but it's still a dumb play.

Now Carr's situation there is a bit more cloudy given it was 3rd down and we have the benefit of hindsight. I was only talking generally that there has to be some situational awareness here.

Carr has played pretty good this year. There's nothing terrifying about the way he's playing. I'm not calling him an All-Pro but he's been solid and Heath had an interception last night. Pretty big play in the game. I'm not calling him an All-Pro either but he has improved his play in the secondary.
If you're gonna get paid like an All-Pro, you should play like an All-Pro. Carr has been decent most of THIS year, but he has also looked awful at times. Heath lays a nice hit once and awhile, but I don't trust him in coverage. And let's be honest, that INT landed right in his arms. He did catch it though, so I'll give him credit for that. We needed it.

Well a lot of other defensive backs on the team have had the ball in their hands and they don't hold on. How many times have we seen that? Carr was overpaid. You are right and Jerry is at fault for doing that. But Carr shouldn't get dumped on like he does

I'm not talking about play calling, which happens in between downs. Mid-play, it's about instincts and natural reaction. If you're thinking, you're removed from the action itself and there's no time for that. We're talking about a fraction of a second here.

Carr was in the air and made a play on the ball. It was only a bad play based on the result, but it's what every DB does in that situation.

I have long been a Carr hater, but I have to admit, I'm starting to change my tune. I don't think he's great or anything, but he's been solid at least. I wouldn't mind keeping him if we can work out a fair deal.
I 2nd this.... if you resign him next offseason for a lower amount and put in as Designated RCB not to move i think you have something there... when you have to put him on the LCB against better receivers and with SS behind him he's worse. put him with a Saftey blanket in FS behind him he does a lot better. i'd sign him to a 3 year 8 mil deal 2.6 million a season deal. He's made 50 million already.

I thought he's been solid this year. The tipped play was just a crazy bounce, he had the coverage on the play.

This is the story of our secondary. Often in position, hardly finish. Scandrick wrestled mightily with that last pick Winston threw to him. Imagine if the ball had popped up as Scandrick rolled over.

I'm always amazed at the hate Brandon Carr gets. You want to say he's not a ball hawk or doesn't get interceptions? Fair enough. But he's been solid this year. The TD he gave up was a fluke. Evans is one of the best receivers in this league and he was rarely seen yesterday.

He could have knocked the ball away. He tried to make the interception and I can't really fault him for that but the fact remains he could have just slapped the ball away with one hand.
Fans are funny, on one hand they get mad that our players dont make plays on the ball, on the other, when they try and it doesnt work they get mad at that too.

I am not talking about play calling either.

I am talking about having situational awareness before and during a play. Again, if a team goes for it on 4th down and 5 at midfield and you intercept the ball at the 15 yard line instead of knocking it down and getting the ball at midfield, that's a dumb play and if one wants to excuse that because of "instincts" that would be absurd.

This notion that once the ball gets snapped in a football game that you can forget the situation is silly IMO.

It's hard to find a CB that can fog a mirror for 2.6M per season unless they are on their rookie contract.

Right on cue.

Dak didn't have a bad game and the team won, who else can we run out of town?

It's kind of a crazy aspect of groups that they do this. In a losing or up-and-down season, I'd get it, but you're right. At 12-2 it just comes off as if people can't appreciate the good times and enjoy the ride.

Keep Carr on the team. He isn't amazing or anything but he is consistent and never misses games. I'm a fan of his for sure.

Equally crazy is this belief that because you win a game it's absurd to make any criticisms of the play or coaching in that game.

That's called sports. This notion that when your team wins a game that you should just appreciate it and not discuss aspects of the team, that particular game, etc. is hilarious.

Carr did not have a good game last night. And it would have been worse if Winston doesn't airmail Evans late in the 4th. He's played solid overall this year but not good enough that I am worrying about bringing him back next year unless he comes cheap (which he probably won't).

In other words, there is no chance in hell I'd want him back if his cap hit is going to be $10MM or more like it has been through much of his career.

10000% wrong, did you watch the play? He did exactly what I said bobbled the ball and knocked it right into the WR's hand for a TD. It was Carr's job to do anything but what he did and you're defending him. You're impossible.

Everyone hating on Carr for one thing or another. Is Carr a great player, nope, a decent player, yes. On the TD catch, he did as he and any CB is taught, to undercut and try to knock the ball away. On a tipped ball you rarely see a WR make the catch, very rare. Carr shadowed Mike Evans all night. What did Evans have as one of the top 5 WR in the game, 4 catches for 59 yards and his size is the best in the NFL. Any coach would take those stats for his corner and defense. Has Carr missed a game? How many games have our other CBs missed not only this year but the last 5 years.

You can hate on the guy all you want but he has been a guy the defense and Marinelli count on and in all likelyhood be back next year also. Sure we will look for a CB in the draft but don't expect a miracle but hope for the luck with had in the 4th round with Brown. DE is a concern, CB is a concern, WR is a concern and I am sure other spots as well but Cowboys are just going to let Carr walk no matter how many fan hate him. They will do what is best for the team and right now that is Carr starting and shadowing the best WR on the opposing team.
