Is there a cap hit for cutting Carr this offseason?

I think you are talking about a different play.

I am not talking about the bobbled interception play for a TD. I am talking about a play late in the game when Tampa was trying to mount a drive for the win. Carr had deep responsibility and yet he hesitated on a shorter route that was already covered and let Evans run right past him. Winston overthrew an open Evans.

No pretty sure Winston avoided a sack there and lobbed it up for Evans.

Maybe, I thought he just stepped up into the pocket. Regardless, Carr made a boneheaded decision there that had nothing to do with Winston moving in the pocket. Carr bit on the shorter route that was already covered by someone else.

Carr gets too much flak from the fan-base. He is not a top-tier but he plays every game, usually against the best WR's. What is that old adage.....you can't help the team in the tub?

Until we can field a group of secondary players who can stay on the field, Carr is not a problem. He does irritate me sometimes like playing too far off his man but he is a gamer.

We do need to draft a corner but do not let him go too early, he would be needed when Mo goes down again.

Equally crazy is this belief that because you win a game it's absurd to make any criticisms of the play or coaching in that game.

That's called sports. This notion that when your team wins a game that you should just appreciate it and not discuss aspects of the team, that particular game, etc. is hilarious.

Carr did not have a good game last night. And it would have been worse if Winston doesn't airmail Evans late in the 4th. He's played solid overall this year but not good enough that I am worrying about bringing him back next year unless he comes cheap (which he probably won't).

In other words, there is no chance in hell I'd want him back if his cap hit is going to be $10MM or more like it has been through much of his career.

I don't think anybody's suggesting 'it's absurd to make criticisms.' I also don't think Carr had a bad game last night, or that he hasn't played well enough this season. But there's no denying Carr's been a whipping boy his entire time in Dallas. And for a 12-4 team with questionable defensive talent that's 4th (?) in the league in points allowed and that's allowed 2 100 receiving games all season (Desean Jackon and Antonio Brown are still the only two with 100's, right?), yeah, I'd say an argument to remove the guy from the roster falls into the category of just not enjoying the success enough.

I might even agree with you in the offseason, depending what the number to keep him is. But this felt like it was less about the contract and more about the game last night. Maybe I had that wrong.

For the record I didn't suggest removing him from the roster now.

I am suggesting we remove him from the roster for next season. I think you can get similar production for a fraction of the cost (which if Carr wants to come back at a fraction of the cost, great).

I think people hate Carr because of a reputation he built 2-3 years ago, and it has stuck.

Sure, he's not Deion or Revis, but he is solid. And reliable.

He tried to make a play on the ball last night, and an unlucky bounce landed right in the offensive player's hands. Oh well.

And there were a lot of guys on here criticizing him for trying to get the INT rather than just bat the ball down. How ridiculous is that? If he HAD knocked it down without trying to catch it, they would have complained then, also.

I'm not a huge fan of Brandon Carr. But he's good value for the money he's now making. No reason to run him off.

Not going to bash on Carr, but proper technique for a defensive back is to knock the ball down. Learned this in high school... you never hit the ball upward as these results would happen. Based on his closing angle, which was much too complicated for a pick, he should have knocked the ball down. Again, he's an okay player but that particular play was not fundamentally sound.

Ok. To be clear, I wasn't directing that post at you necessarily, either. Your thread made me think back to the chat and the game threads, really, and I was just speaking generally. Carr has definitely been overpaid in Dallas. He's a good dude and a solid player who's playing better on his more natural side. I"m all for keeping him at the right price, but that's obviously a matter of debate. I'm also just pleased with the production we've gotten from the secondary and the whole defense out of nowhere this year. Especially the last two weeks.

I was too fat to be a DB in high school, so thanks for the knowledge. lol
