Is this rock bottom for this franchise?

Ware is done, Hatcher and Spencer are gone, and Lee will never stay on the field very long. Carter can't play in this system and we don't have a 3rd LBer worth a darn. George Selvie may be the best DLman left on the team before the draft next year. Let that sink in.

The safeties are garbage and the CBs completely overpaid to boot.

This defense doesn't get fixed in one year, maybe not two.

By which time, Romo will be 34-36 (with 1-3 more years of loss of arm strength), so in addition to entirely fixing the defense, it's imperative that we find Romo's replacement.

No, I think this is overreaction. You can look at it as being so close, and we just keep coming up short, or or you can see it as "we're close" and every single year I choose the latter.

I mean are we excluding the 60s? Do people realize those teams were composed of what would today be like practice squad guys.

We are not close by any stretch of the imagination. I love the optimistic view point but at some point it just becomes ridiculous and Jerry-esque to actually believe something so foolish.

Not yet, but a sinking ship no doubt about it. Salary cap hell on the horizon, old declining players locked into long term contracts, years of bad drafting affecting the depth on this team coming to a head, coordinator/coaching staff/philosophical musical chairs. The iceberg is on the horizon and the titanic can't avoid it....

So we get to spend more high draft picks with Jerry crapshooting on QBs too, which means its that much longer until the defense is fixed.

A couple of years from now the Campo era might look pretty good.

Unfortunately no! It can get worse!

Yeah, like the Bears winning it all and Ratliff kisses the Lombardi trophy.

On a serious note, 2010 was rock bottom. If we are playing for the division in two weeks and get a loss with this kind of sting, it would be a low. I say that because we would have rotated around the division in elimination games to only be knocked off in wk 17.

I'm not sure if this is rock bottom yet. I'm sure JG and the rest of the coaching staff could find a jack hammer and dig this pit of despair a little deeper.

Yeah, I believe it is. It feels like that. Collectively it's been almost 20 years of not really much to speak for. Campo, Parcells, etc, the player talent and names weren't really there (not to say that our players now are disgustingly talented, that's ANOTHER conversation.) It's just gotten so far away from a solid football team. Jerry installed stripper poles and a marching band to take focus away from the field. He literally installed a screen so big in the stadium that one has a hard time looking directly at the team, which is how he likes it. So, yeah....all inclusive...I'd say it's rock bottom and honestly.. I hope it is.

And honestly for the sake of us who never were really old enough to really know what the dynasty days of the 90's felt like....I hope rock bottom is over asap. Cause my whole life, I've watched an underachieving franchise. I remember the Steelers super bowl and Emmitt. THAT'S. IT.

Other than that it is all good though.

Mostly, I'd say yes. And like others have said, I'd unquestionably say that I hope it can't get any worse.

My fear is that it certainly can.

We've been riding the coat tails of some of the high end talent acquired from the Parcells years. We're already seeing what our defense looks like with a worn-down Ware; what about the offense post-Romo?

Right now, it's gut-wrenchingly bad, but I wouldn't be surprised if around the corner is a string of 4-12 type seasons if (when?) we're unable to find cornerstone guys to replace some of our older star players.

Who knows, maybe a string of 4-12 years is what we need to return to prominence.

Rock bottom will be next week, when Commanders play spoiler and make the game vs Philly meaningless.

i hope not. we need another opportunity for last game of year, division rival embarrassment. those are always so pleasurable.

I got news for you. Those 60's teams had some stars then who would be stars now. Lilly, Renfro, Jordan, Howley, Green and Andre to name a few.

Mediocrity is actually worse than going 2 and 14 because at least then, we'd be able to stockpile talent via drafts and we'd KNOW there was something wrong. This 8 and 8 farce allows Jerry to keep on creating smokescreens and diversions to give cowboys fans hope that we are one draft or one FA signing away from something other than mediocrity... We also miss out on talent because we are picking in the middle of the round. The fact that we ended up with Dez was extreme luck, but yes, mediocrity is much worse than having a bad record because at least then, you KNOW you have to change and there are no more excuses. If we slip into the playoffs, expect a few more years of .500 Garrett ball.

Gave up the lead in a historically weak NFC East division, outside looking in on the playoffs.

Potential 3 straight years of being knocked out by a division rival.

Breaking all types of records for allowing historical comebacks. (440-1 stat)

Worst defense in team history.

22nd ranked offense with a 100M qb.

Stadium is always 30-40% full of opposing team fans.

Constantly being ridiculed and the butt of all jokes on the 24/7 sports news networks.

Players/coaches leaving the team disgruntled.

One of the worst salary cap situations in the league.

If this ain't rock bottom, I don't want to see what is.

It can get worse; stay tuned for the next two weeks.

Exactly what I'm fearing as well.

I really do see some real hard times around the corner.

The only time worse than this is next week when we lose to the Commanders.

No, we are not at rock bottom yet. Next year will be worse. We will be in cap hell, and will lose Hatch (who has been invisible as of late anyway), and a group of guys that just can't stay healthy or do what it takes week in and week out to win. This team is lacking IT.

Never imagine that things can’t get worse under JJ.

We see losses regularly now that even a few years ago would have seemed impossible.

We still have a chance to win the Division this year. It other words at least we are competitive now. Go back to about ten years ago and we were god awful. I do think next year we won't be any better then we are now. We will be in Cap hell and unless some of these guys who play defense and who are out for the year come back and come back healthy we will probably be worse. The good thing we have going for us is our offensive line is pretty consistent this year. We need a stud tight end and a change of pace running back and we will be ok. That assumes of course that Romo just doesn't suddenly turn god awful. He has proven without a doubt that he is no longer the savior he once was and is a middle of the league quarterback. I think any objective football guy would think our defense will have about one playmaker on it next year (Lee) and that only assumes that Lee will stay healthy. No one else on defense is top tier anymore.

Embarrassing, yes. Rock-bottom, no.

That will be when we lose vs the Eagles in embarrassing fashion in a win-and-you're-in scenario, yet again.
