Is Tony the reason play calls have seemed boring and ineffective?

I've noticed the play calls have been much more dynamic and exciting. Garrett is really mixing it up and keeping defenses off balance. But maybe the play calling hasn't actually changed.

Since Tony changes Garrett's plays and Dak runs the plays called, anyone beginning to think Tony should be sticking to the plays called more often?

I think it's no longer important as Tony will probably never see the field in a Cowboys uniform again. The only way he plays is if Dak is injured or he's traded/released and picked up by another team.

We threw all our hats into the Romo train thinking he could last the season ala 2014 ... he made it to August 25th.

No because we saw the same thing last year after Romo went down and we saw it game 1 this year.

Are you serious?

The playcalling right now is about as boring and basic as you can possibly be. Linehan is doing a tremendous job of keeping everything simple, and letting the offensive line dictate.

When you can run the ball as effectively as we have, it is easy to call plays and keep defenses off balance!

Dak's ability to run and scramble creates an entire new dynamic that Romo was unable to provide. Dak is also much more intelligent than Romo and is able to process information much quicker and able to call the right plays when needed.

Garrett and Linehan have called a great game. However, Dak has also made them look unbelievable. You will see us revert back to old losing ways if Romo comes back. I do feel the coaches/management will put the team first and roll with Dak when the decision comes however.

Disagree.

We have added a lot of wrinkles here lately.

Bears game we were using pick plays.

49ers game we ran the screen to Beasley that got 45 yards to seal the game.

The roll outs, play action game, zone reads, and a screen game for the first time I can remember.

This is just off the top of my head.

Right now we are keeping teams honest and we have the defense thinking we are going sideways and just when they think that we hit them up the middle for a 60 yard Zeke TD.

It's less relying on sandlot/out athlete football and more about keeping the defense guessing.

Game 1 against the Giants.. They cheated with 8 & 9 in the box all day and we just let them. Not anymore.

Romo can't throw a screen pass. Romo can't scramble. Romo can't run the read option. Romo can't take a hit any more. Romo's tendencies are well known by every team. At very inopportune times, Romo is not careful with the ball. God only knows what Romo is audibling to.

Right now Romo is nothing more than a Bledsoe-like statue and the opposing defenses will just tee off on him. Out with the old and in with the new.

The only new stuff to me is a bit of read option and more boots which comes with having a mobile qb
In 2014 the offense was pretty good under Tony and right now it's pretty good with Dak
Dak allows you to do a few more things because of his mobility but overall the offense is not much different
I do seem to see more middle of the field passes but suspect some of that is not having dez

1014 wasn't sandlot either. It didn't have to be with a legitimate running game. Romo can hit more plays downfield. Dak is afraid to try. There were receivers free downfield, but he doesn't look that way much.

Eventually, Dak will see those plays, too.

We did a lot of the Romo run around and make a play in 2014.

Everyone points to that Seattle game.. Look at how many times Romo extended plays and had to do the Houdini act just to get a guy open.

I think they've allowed Linehan to mold his play-calling to Dak's strengths.
I wouldn't call it terribly creative though. Just a bit different....limited, but groomed to fit Dak....with roll-outs, screens, etc.

Dak is executing it extremely well.

And sometimes that's necessary.

If he can't do that anymore, it will be obvious very quickly.

True Romo had to improvise to get guys open against one of the best defenses in the past 20 years. Compelling evidence.

I love Dak, he's playing great, but in a very similar situation (dominant o-line and league leading RB) Romo was the most efficient qb in the league.

I'll just never understand the mentality of fans trashing the guy because we finally have a new guy capable of playing to his level.
