Is Tony the reason play calls have seemed boring and ineffective?

True Romo had to improvise to get guys open against one of the best defenses in the past 20 years. Compelling evidence.

I love Dak, he's playing great, but in a very similar situation (dominant o-line and league leading RB) Romo was the most efficient qb in the league.

I'll just never understand the mentality of fans trashing the guy because we finally have a new guy capable of playing to his level.

Hey i'm not anti Romo.

I'm saying the playcalling in the past has been awful and didn't take advantage of teams cheating with 8 & 9 guys in the box.

I've noticed the play calls have been much more dynamic and exciting. Garrett is really mixing it up and keeping defenses off balance. But maybe the play calling hasn't actually changed.

Since Tony changes Garrett's plays and Dak runs the plays called, anyone beginning to think Tony should be sticking to the plays called more often?
I am assuming you were around when we were last considered a championship caliber team - I.e., the early 90's? There was never an offense so basic and boring than that one. Sheeesh - our running game consisted basically of calling lead draws the majority of the time. What you saw then and what you're seeing now is what happens when u have aspects of your squad that can truly dominate. Everyone knew back then in the passing game that Michael Irvin was going to run the slant and could do nothing to shut it down. Right now we are running a basic line it up and stop us mentality and daring defenses to do something about it. Although I do like the option read wrinkle and what that opens up in the run game for the RBs especially.

That's called imposing your will. That's called dominance. That's called we're not going to worry about you cuz you got to worry about us!!!!

And I love it.

I think Dak's mobility give us a lot more options in regards to our play calling and what we're doing offensively. That 60 yard TD doesn't happen with Romo behind center.

At the same time, Romo's ability to handle biz at the LOS can't be overlooked. Dak is going to see some looks he hasn't seen yet and struggle that would be nothing to Romo.

Our offense has been extremely crisp and the play calling excellent. I can't remember the last time we were that surgical for three straight drives. Dak and Romo do different things well. What's annoying is that the Romo crowd automatically assumes Romo can do EVERYTHING Dak can do better. To be fair to Romo our offense was excellent in 2014 but primarily because the coaches took away a lot of his improvisation and we committed to pounding Murray. Romo does bring more of an explosive element WHEN healthy but he also can bring more chaos at times when he changes things around to much and we're scrambling with the playclock dwindling EVERY TIME. Combine that with being careless with the ball at times and you have a lot of give and take.

This forum is getting to the point where I'm almost sick of being on here. Every thread we see people trashing Romo and it's getting pathetic. We're 4-1 and yet all we see on here is how Dak is God and Romo is suddenly one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. SMH, it's getting bad here.

Disagree.

We have added a lot of wrinkles here lately.

Bears game we were using pick plays.

49ers game we ran the screen to Beasley that got 45 yards to seal the game.

The roll outs, play action game, zone reads, and a screen game for the first time I can remember.

This is just off the top of my head.

Right now we are keeping teams honest and we have the defense thinking we are going sideways and just when they think that we hit them up the middle for a 60 yard Zeke TD.

It's less relying on sandlot/out athlete football and more about keeping the defense guessing.

Game 1 against the Giants.. They cheated with 8 & 9 in the box all day and we just let them. Not anymore.

Erod thinks Dak hasn't done anything impressive so far. He is still waiting for defenses to start pressuring Dak and get him out of his comfort zone. Except defenses have tried and he has stayed cool as a cucumber.

I think they've allowed Linehan to mold his play-calling to Dak's strengths.
I wouldn't call it terribly creative though. Just a bit different....limited, but groomed to fit Dak....with roll-outs, screens, etc.

Dak is executing it extremely well.
If you execute well enough often enough you don't need more than half a dozen plays anyway. Execution is everything....

what games are people watching? Dak is taking the play clock down inside 5 almost everytime.

Do people just create these things in their head and then repeat it when they see it on the internet. They have run the hurry up with Dak to keep the personnel of the defense from substituting and the play clock is still getting down.

People have lost their minds. The whole country and every sports station is spending this morning bagging on Romo. I have never seen any qb go through this in my life. Eli Manning was horrendous last night, the giants have lost 3 straight and flowers shoved a reporter who wrote bad things about him and no one cares but Romo apparently is a villain again to all the same people.

Amazing stuff this morning.

They did pressure him and then he just took off running on them so now they have to keep in mind that he can run and they have to think about containing him while they rush him.

He is dictating some things with his physical abilities that defenses don't have to think about with Romo on the field.

Romo can't throw a screen pass. Romo can't scramble. Romo can't run the read option. Romo can't take a hit any more. Romo's tendencies are well known by every team. At very inopportune times, Romo is not careful with the ball. God only knows what Romo is audibling to.

Right now Romo is nothing more than a Bledsoe-like statue and the opposing defenses will just tee off on him. Out with the old and in with the new.

I'm tired of that potted plant too
