Is Tony the reason play calls have seemed boring and ineffective?

This forum is getting to the point where I'm almost sick of being on here. Every thread we see people trashing Romo and it's getting pathetic. We're 4-1 and yet all we see on here is how Dak is God and Romo is suddenly one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. SMH, it's getting bad here.

Romo was a beast when he was healthy. Will he be the same after all these injuries though? Idk.

I just think people are ready to move on, with Romo being 37 years old and extremely brittle.

Disagree.

We have added a lot of wrinkles here lately.

Bears game we were using pick plays.

49ers game we ran the screen to Beasley that got 45 yards to seal the game.

The roll outs, play action game, zone reads, and a screen game for the first time I can remember.

This is just off the top of my head.

Right now we are keeping teams honest and we have the defense thinking we are going sideways and just when they think that we hit them up the middle for a 60 yard Zeke TD.

It's less relying on sandlot/out athlete football and more about keeping the defense guessing.

Game 1 against the Giants.. They cheated with 8 & 9 in the box all day and we just let them. Not anymore.

none of this is true. We have run all this stuff with Romo. Since his back surgery in 13 they kept him in the pocket to protect him.

You have to be kidding about the screen to beasley? We ran that a million times in 09/10/11 with miles austin. Go back and watch those games. Miles austin made a huge td in the playoff game against the eagles on that screen. Its not new.

Play action? That was a constant in 14 when the running game met its potential. Screens? We are still not running a lot of them, I haven't looked up the numbers but I bet murray had the ball thrown to him more through this point in 14 than zeke has this year.

People are basing everything happening this year against their memory of last year. Not a smart thing to do. Last year we lost murray, romo, dez, martin got injured in the preseason and played through it and leary was injured and collins played.

The only thing that would change if Romo was playing is the scrambling, he is not going to scramble ever at this point and dak is doing it about 2 or 3 times a game.

what games are people watching? Dak is taking the play clock down inside 5 almost everytime.

Do people just create these things in their head and then repeat it when they see it on the internet. They have run the hurry up with Dak to keep the personnel of the defense from substituting and the play clock is still getting down.

People have lost their minds. The whole country and every sports station is spending this morning bagging on Romo. I have never seen any qb go through this in my life. Eli Manning was horrendous last night, the giants have lost 3 straight and flowers shoved a reporter who wrote bad things about him and no one cares but Romo apparently is a villain again to all the same people.

Amazing stuff this morning.

True.. the clock does go down with Dak... of course he surveys the defense and makes adjustments. My point is still that with Romo.. it did seem more chaotic as if we were running out of time... as opposed to the clock just going down naturally.

Yep.

One of the things that is surprising and no one is talking about it is the lack of penalties. We were good for multiple unforced penalties per game...and that is pretty much gone. We are now one of the least penalized teams in the league. That makes a difference.

I remember watching that game and thought for sure I was going to see my quarterback die on that play. Such a classic Romo moment.

Dak's ability to run and scramble creates an entire new dynamic that Romo was unable to provide. Dak is also much more intelligent than Romo and is able to process information much quicker and able to call the right plays when needed.

Garrett and Linehan have called a great game. However, Dak has also made them look unbelievable. You will see us revert back to old losing ways if Romo comes back. I do feel the coaches/management will put the team first and roll with Dak when the decision comes however.
How old are the losing ways you speak of?
What's was Romos record over his last 20 games again?

Your weird agenda makes you look more foolish each week.

Stop being so insecure in your preference for Dak. You can like him without trying to sound stupid bashing Romo.

After a win yesterday, there's so much to love about this team today.
  • 4-1, could have been 5-0.
  • Defense stepped up yesterday ( yes I know the bengals Oline is weak )
  • Ball was distributed well
  • Offense looked unstoppable, could have put up more but an untimely fumble messed it up
To answer the OP, something does seem diff about the offense in general. Imo, it seems more steady and smooth, not as frantic. Even without Dez yesterday, I had faith that we would get a first down on every third down. It seems that DAk just throws it to whoever is open.

that is my point. Its your perception because you keep reading on places like this when its not true. There is nothing wrong with either qb using the whole play clock. In fact I bet its a point of emphasis from the staff about playing with patience and taking your time. Not to mention ball control is the point of emphasis of this team.

it looks this way because we are manhandling the other team in the running game. Go watch the 2014 chicago game. It looks almost exactly the same. Romo spreads the ball around as well as anybody.

I've noticed the play calls have been much more dynamic and exciting. Garrett is really mixing it up and keeping defenses off balance. But maybe the play calling hasn't actually changed.

Since Tony changes Garrett's plays and Dak runs the plays called, anyone beginning to think Tony should be sticking to the plays called more often?
I think the problem is Romo is very predictable
and he will change the play to something he likes.

Which falls into a pattern other teams can decode.

With DAK, for the most part..we are seeing Linehan's offense unfiltered.

I think it's no longer important as Tony will probably never see the field in a Cowboys uniform again. The only way he plays is if Dak is injured or he's traded/released and picked up by another team.

We threw all our hats into the Romo train thinking he could last the season ala 2014 ... he made it to August 25th.
1. Romo's job to lose. If he plays bad for a couple games, which he never really has other than getting injured. And he's been legendary at times injured. They can insert Dak.
2. In what world do you live in where Dallas cuts or trades the future for no apparent reason?

I could watch this loop all day. This was a sweet moment for me living in Houston and watching this game surrounded by texan fans. They immediately blamed watts "hurt" shoulder for why romo escaped.

Are you serious?

The playcalling right now is about as boring and basic as you can possibly be. Linehan is doing a tremendous job of keeping everything simple, and letting the offensive line dictate.

Yes. Unfortunately he is serious....

I don't think the offense looks particularly exotic. It's more efficient due to having a threat at RB. There's a read-option option with Dak and a better total RB than we had last year. The OL is also a year more seasoned. This is consistently giving us favorable 2nd and 3rd downs.

I will say Romo seems more aggressive and maybe looks for the harder throw while Dak takes the easy option. I'm not sure if the play extending that Romo does is as necessary as I thought it was pre-Dak. Dak doesn't seem to need to do it nearly as much. Some of these Romo injuries are coming from Romo holding on to the ball too long while waiting for deeper routes to develop. Though maybe this is Linehan's/Garrett's doing.

Romo talks about taking what the defense gives them, but he doesn't really do that in my eyes. He's juking and pirouetting to open up downfield while Dak seems to be throwing to either his first or second read. He's stringing these super long drives consistently by throwing mostly short and intermediate routes. We'll see when Romo comes back if efficiency falls off.

There is nothing super dynamic or creative. What are you talking about? We're dictating everything in the trenches. Dak is playing great but let's not get crazy.
