Is Tyler Smith playing tackle or guard in 2026?

It might be yeah, but what if Guyton doesn’t get it together?

I don’t know if I’d start Shelton even if he is the most impressive rook in camp.

I’d sign Decker either way, but no clue whether he is on their radar. Guessing no.

It’s a tough position to just leave to chance since a screwup doesn’t simply allow a touchdown, it gets your QB injured.
I just don't know. Shelton hurt his shoulder in 2024, and so was no able to build up his strength prior to the 25 season. Put him behind.

Nate was ranked 88 out of 89 OLT's, BTW. Just doesn't possess the physical skills.

We really needed to sign an older vet just in case.

That’s interesting. The fact he hasn’t been told he’s playing guard sort of leads me to believe tackle is up in the air.
This is so blown out of proportion. Why would they need to tell him he is playing Guard? Did they tell Dak he will be playing QB? He is playing Guard unless plan B needs to kick in because OT sucks really bad again or injury strikes

I’m not quite sure “ telling Smith “ where he’s playing is cannon fodder for chat boards . During meetings and drills and practices this will all become clearer . I’m certain the Cowboys don’t have the starting lineup at OL set in cement for the Giants opener .

Smith has brought this up much more than Pickens ever did about a contract extension. Jerry needs to make it clear to Smith your on contract 2 being paid well we like your versatility end of story .

They asked him to play tackle last year..if Guyton gets hurt or stinks? Yes, I can see them moving him to tackle.

How would they know until they get some reps in? Camp is the time to figure out if someone is ready to be LT. If you aren't seeing that, THEN you start shuffling.

I wonder if they're going to shuffle him around during his limited snaps in preseason to see where we're at with him.

Correct and that is not where we are today. He is a Guard today until/if the situation changes
Yeah but why would you wait until he stinks and then a week before the season starts tell Smith where he will play?

Guyton last I heard is in a camp battle with Thomas who also stinks. I get you may not want it to happen but it’s a possibility it can if Guyton is hurt and gonna struggle which he’s done the last 2 years.

Because Smith is our starting Guard. It's not like he is on the bench not playing and the only change is Smith for Guyton. It's option 1: Smith at a near All Pro level at OG and Guyton for option 2: a guy like Bass and Smith at OT which is more of an unknown for him. We will make the switch if we have to but we aren't there today, so today Smith is a Guard. My preference is sign a veteran OT to at least create a floor there that isn't horrible and let Guyton try to beat that vet out. I wouldn't be surprised if Smith ends up at OT, I'm just saying as of today he is not

I wonder if Guyton does not show enough at Tackle whether they might give him a shot at guard?
