I've gone back and watched the Denver game. Witten seems slow to me. He isn't a vertical threat down the seams nor does he possess power to run over people. I left out the obvious...he's a poor blocker for his size.

Don't get me wrong. I like the guy and he does have good hands and knows how to get open. However, he does seem to lack the atheletic ability and speed of a Gonzales (sp) or Gates. That's probably why he dropped to the 3rd round.

With that said. I wouldn't be surprised if Parcell pick up a very athletic TE on the first day of next yrs draft, esp with Campbell getting up in age.

all I know is that opposing Ds send 2 people over to him, that's the mark of an elite TE, and Witten dropped to the 3rd because NFL people felt he needed another year in college to hone his skills, had nothing to do with questions about his talent

Pro bowlers arent elite. Tons of players make a pro bowl and never make the hall of fame or become Elite. Elite is hall of fame type players. Witten will not be a hall of famer

sorry I dont speak 5th grade grammar. Go get an education and get back to me.

Maybe I should bring it down to second grade?? Only a complete idiot would have concerns with tight end on our team. Again, it would take a friggin ignoramous to call one of the top three or four tight ends in the game anything but elite.

So you think Witten is going to the hall of fame? Or are you just going to laugh because you dont have anything substantial to add.

A resounding Yes to the question. Is he an elite blocker, No.......but name a current big time TE who is.

another TE that is athletic unlike Witten

sorry, but that is the stupidest thing I ever heard, Witten is athletic, although no Gates, who is?

and Mark Bavaro wasn't the most fleet of foot, or most athletic, but he's sitting in the HOF

I have concerns about the second string TE, but obviously some people are not reading the posts. Once again people, teams are allowed to have more than one TE on the team.

Dan Campbell is past his prime and slowed by injuries. We need another young blocker on the team that is athletic for our two TE set's and other situations. Ryan hasn't worked out. Pierce is good, but out for the season now, and Parcells has a long history of drafting TE's, what don't you get?

I don't have a crystal ball. Witten has a long career ahead of him, or he could get hit by a manure truck this offseason and never play football again. Who knows? But to say he'll never make it is a bit premature, no? Witten is a great player, very young, and he's only going to get better. I think he has the capability to be a HOF type of player.

ya lord knows a team can't carry more than one TE on the roster. Don't you get it? We have more than one spot on the team for a TE, teams actually even sometimes use two te's on the same play imagine that.

Seriously you people and your knee jerk reactions without even reading the real topic and you post some garbage. :bang2:
Truth is Witten is a top TE, but will never be in the "Elite" category of TE's like Gonzalez and Gates because he doesnt have that same kind of athletic ability . That's all he's saying. Do you understand the meaning of the word Elite? :bang2:

uh, in case you haven't noticed, but Witten is in that "elite" category with Gonzalez and Gates, last year was one of the best single seasons for TEs in NFL history! and look at San Diego and KC, they only have Gates and Gonzalez, I dont' see them running around with 2 Pro Bowl TEs, so why are we talking about the need to draft another TE?

Witten's great, but not Elite, that is my opinion. What you people are not understanding is that nobody is trying to replace him. We are trying to get a good backup because we need someone to replace Dan Campbell.

You sir, are clearly missing the point. That is ok though, maybe if you continue to insult people, it will gloss over the point that you made yourself look a bit silly on this thread.

We get what you are crying/whining about. We don't get why. It is well known that DCampbell is one of the BEST blocking tight ends in the game. It is also well known that Witten is one of the best overall tight ends in the game. Why would you be concerned about our TE position when clearly, we have much more pressing needs to fill obviously.

There are seven rounds. Three TE spots on the roster. Figure it out yourself sherlock.

my point is that you don't need to be the most athletic TE to be considered elite, just using Bavaro as an example

yeah, ok, how about we wait and see before we pull our crystal balls out? can't say for sure if somebody is, or isn't, going to be a HOFamer, when they're only in their 3rd year

Don't worry about it bro. He has made himself look silly here and is resorting to insults in order to try to save face. Clearly, anyone that has concerns about the Tight End position on our team currently doesn't know shyte about football.
