He had a foot injury last year. Some armchair QB's theorize he's lost a step, but he's never been a burner, so that's hard to say.
I seem to remember Parcells mentioning something about Campbell in his PC's am I wrong on this? Either way can't hurt to get another TE I still say.

Sean Ryan is on the depth chart right now. They moved him up after Pierce tore his ACL.
I really liked Pierce, he was doing great on special teams and looked like he had potential. With his injury now though who knows how he will return after this acl, I am not too sure how serious his injury was. If he can return I'd be perfectly happy with him as the 3rd TE. Otherwise I'd like us to draft another guy similar to him later on.

I don't recall Purcells ever mentioning Dan Campbell in a PC, but I might have missed that particular one. He did say this about Witten though...

November 10, 2005
Tight end Jason Witten isn't posting the same Pro Bowl numbers from a year ago, but Parcells is still pleased with Witten's all-around contribution to the offense. "He's a factor in the game, that's all I care about," head coach Bill Parcells said. "I don't care about numbers. I care if he's a factor and they have to be concerned with him and I am certain most teams are."

I agree, and we've already seen what Witten can do when he is the focal point of the offense, I just cant consider him an Elite TE when he can't do anything once he's caught the ball. That doesnt take away from the fact that he catches almost everything thrown his way, and is an extremely reliable target.

earlier in the year Parcells mentioned that Campbell was getting "rusty", coming back from that injury that he suffered during the offseason, that was a while back though

Honest question here for you. I understand your point of view, but who would you say are elite TEs in the game right now, other than Gates and Gonzo?

Nobody. Gonzo is on the end of an elite career and Gates is certainly headed there. I'm not sure I can consider Gonzo elite at the moment, but he certainly has been over his career. Gates is unstoppable and without him and LT, I still think that Brees would never have won the job back. Gates is everything Witten is, but he is also a bigtime playmaker who can turn nothing into a long TD play. Witten cannot do this, but I still have to consider Witten top 3 or top 5 in the league at the moment. Maybe my definition of Elite is too high, because I think of Elite as guys like LT, Peyton, etc. the very few people who can take over a game.

I think some people did not understand the topic.

Witten is a good TE. He gets open in short areas (good knowledge and technique) and he catches everything. Again, he doesn't possess the game breaking ability of a Gates or Gonzo (in his prime). He's certainly no Winslow. He has many receptions last yr because Vinny has NO ONE else to throw to....remember, Glenn was out and Key was injured....Some people argue that if he's faster, he would be a WR. That's just not true. I don't care what he runs in a the 40's. He look slow and hasn't run away from anyone (DE, LB or DBs).

I love him on this team and he's a vital part of it. However, he's just not what some people want him to be.

Where do you see that Jr was referenced? He's not even a good TE in my opinion until he prove me wrong otherwise. We are talking about Winslow SR.

Your logic is flawed. I'm not going to explain why except to say - yeah Vinny had no one else to throw to, but other teams KNEW that and even being keyed on by defenses, Witten couldn't be stopped.

Depends who you consider elite. I dont think he is slow,I remember him putting a move on Dawkins last year and running by him. He is less noticable this year like others have stated because we go in max protection because of the tackles. My complaint on him is he goes down like tissue paper when he gets hit. BP complained about this last year. He also needs to get a little better at blocking. He will continue to get better.

jerry rice was slow but he worked out ok i guess. it's not about speed at te, it's about the ability to get open and catch the ball.the only reason he is not in the top 3 in rec. is because we are having to max protect alot.he is fine. elite, i don't know i guess that depends on what elite is. san diego and k.c. throw more to their te's because their the best recievers they have. we have other weapons so we don't throw as much to the te. and with all that he's what 4th in the nfc?

When you say elite TE, you have to remember the position. I mean if you are saying they aren't elite players as in game breakers (lt, payton mannin, etc.) I would sort of agree. But to say he isn't an elite TE, most would have to disagree.
