yeah, ok, how about we wait and see before we pull our crystal balls out? can't say for sure if somebody is, or isn't, going to be a HOFamer, when they're only in their 3rd year
not even the point, Witten is good we all know that, but he can't make things happen after the catch. this is all true. I'd like to get a TE in the late rounds that is athletic and young to back him up and play on two TE sets. Campbell is old and slowed down from injuries he cannot play forever and may retire this year. Who are we going to use for our two TE sets if he does? ugh..

Great point indeed. Would you agree that we can put him in eilte catagory?

don't ask me, ask everyone outside of Hiero, who have already put Witten in that "elite" category, and mention him in the same breath with Gates, Gonzales, Shockey, Crumpler etc.

Witten is without question one of the top 5 TE'S in the league. That would classify him as being elite imo.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I've gone back and watched the Denver game. Witten seems slow to me. He isn't a vertical threat down the seams nor does he possess power to run over people. I left out the obvious...he's a poor blocker for his size.

Don't get me wrong. I like the guy and he does have good hands and knows how to get open. However, he does seem to lack the atheletic ability and speed of a Gonzales (sp) or Gates. That's probably why he dropped to the 3rd round.

With that said. I wouldn't be surprised if Parcell pick up a very athletic TE on the first day of next yrs draft, esp with Campbell getting up in age.

If only we had listened to the lonely calls for Heath Miller this past April.

Look at the topic of this thread. It's not about Dan Campbell. The original poster even implied that Witten plays like a 3rd rounder and he's nowhere near the calibre of player as a Gonzales or Gates. Sorry, but not only do I disgree, but I find that so ridiculous that it's actually funny.

You want to slam on the brakes and pretend this is about Dan Campbell, well that isn't what the topic says. I guarantee you most Cowboy fans do think Witten is "elite". He's one of the best players on the team.

Out of curiosity (if you can understand my 5th grade educated self here), what are you basing your hypothesis in regards to Campbell retiring on? He is still one of the best blocking tight ends in football (can't think of one better) and that has always been his game.

Well I don't care what some Deadskin or Fecal fan thinks, so there.

I think you would be hard pressed to find much of anyone that would put Witten in a catagory other than elite.

But maybe his superior education allows him to do this stuff. Maybe he went to Sister Cleo's school for the gifted :)

sorry I am not the original poster. I think Witten is one of the top TE's in the league. I think he is playing like a first rd TE, but I could never put him in the elite category with Gates. I disagree with the original poster then, because I dont think anything about him needs to be changed.

I may be wrong but doesnt Campbell have some kind of leg injury or injuries going on this season that have slowed him down considerably?

nothing wrong with Campbell, yes, earlier because he suffered that injury in the offseason, that kinda lingered earlier on during the season, but not now

ya omgz LOLZ i am soooo reaching... like totally. Even if Campbell stays, Parcels has a history of drafting TE's late. Ryan didnt work out, and who knows what will become of Pierce next year. Definitely wouldnt mind drafting another TE later on.

He had a foot injury last year. Some armchair QB's theorize he's lost a step, but he's never been a burner, so that's hard to say.

Sean Ryan is on the depth chart right now. They moved him up after Pierce tore his ACL.
