Isn't Tony Pollard an unrestricted FA after this season?

Zeke will play for less money another two years, draft another RB.

Pollard will hit FA

Tony Pollard has been ripped off by chubby man Zeke and his fat contract. He’s so much better than Zeke it’s glaringly obvious. This guy has been so underrated it makes me sick. He reminds me a lot of Barry Sanders. And if he had been given his due right out of the gate knows how good he could’ve been. When you are a running back in the NFL you only get a few years when you’re super young to really thrive in that position. And he’s blown his sitting behind chubby Zeke. It’s just wrong in my opinion.

All Cowboys contracts are made to be restructured. They have been for years. That is exactly what will happen to both of those deals. The Cowboys aren't going into next year with a cap hit of $75M from those two players.
They’re already paying into 2 seasons after Daks contract is up. Exactly how much restructuring you figure is feasible? Think they’re going to have to extend him or leave it be!

Think Elliott restructures to stay in Dallas and they draft a replacement for Pollard. Don’t mind the idea of drafting a RB early, just don’t extend them. But Robinson or Gibbs would be a great replacement for Pollard.

All I know is Pollard is going to get paid next year and deservingly so.

He will get over paid and it won't be the Cowboys unless he is willing to take the home town discount.

He will take the best deal he can get that is best for him and he should. He has earned it but he will end up on some teams message board as the guy who just played hard for the big money.

He is not a bell cow and after a full season of trying to be, he will fall short of franchise expectations. Hopefully he will go to a team that knows how to use him and prolong his productivity.

Regardless, he deserves his paycheck wherever that may be. Hope he stays, but enjoy him while you can.

Don't understand why people say Pollard cannot be a bell cow type of running back. He doesn't have to be. He can still be effective running the ball 15 time a game. We can find someone else to pound the ball up the middle. There are many other running backs that can do that effectively more so than Zeke.

I'm ok with signing Pollard. Here is hoping for reasonable amount.

Yes, he will be an UFA next season. I would say his contract would be in the 3 year $21m range....based on the market. That is of course JMHO...:D

Tony Pollard made a good argument about why he should be paid and how there is life for the Cowboys' running game without Zeke.

100%

People’s brains are stuck on football of a bygone era, so they parrot old terms like “bell bow.”

Here’s news. Nobody in the league runs the ball 25-30 times regularity with exception to maybe Derrick Henry. He leads the league in attempts but is only averaging 23.7 carries/game. The 2nd and 3rd leading rushers in terms of attempts are Saquon and Chubb, and they only average 20.3 carries and 18 carries per game. Zeke is only averaging 15.5 carries per game but we’re paying him $15M/per year.

This is a passing league. Most teams have gone to running back by committee. Even more so with the 17 game schedule.

Pollard only needs to be a 14-16 carry per game back.

If Zeke’s contract wasn’t so outta wack with his production he’d be a fine guy to continue pairing with Pollard. The reality though is Zeke should be let go as soon as it makes most sense salary cap wise because you can replace his production easily. You can’t always find a game breaker like Pollard.

Yup. You can get a serviceable back who blocks well, gets a few tough yards, and complements Pollard at the dollar store. You don't break the bank and run the offense through him regardless of what GM Johnnie Walker says.

Dak's getting $49 million next year.

Say bye to Pollard unless they can get out of Zeke's contract.

This is not doom and gloom. We have all the leverage on Zeke.

once we got parsons, dlaw very, very quickly renegotiated. We had leverage. Renegotiate or be gone. Dlaw knew the better money was here and stayed.

same with Zeke, renegotiate or be gone. Zeke knows the better money is here and he will stay. We give pollard big money but all that money added will be lower than today (Zeke takes a deep discount).

if you don’t like that argument, we are not paying 25-30 million for a top wr. We got cash.

Don’t panic.

I would go back to the draft well and get an affordable RB. Some very good RB’s coming out. Good RB’s are pretty easy to acquire.

Save that money for the DL and OL and Diggs and Parsons will be coming up and will get the max at their positions. Lamb will be coming up as well.

Pollard is going to get paid. Should have extended him last year, but you know Jerry, "We go as Zeke goes," or in other words, "We go as my 90 million dollars goes."
I hate that fans are so goofy with this stuff.
Jerry will say that publicly on a Monday then cut Zeke on a Tuesday as he did with Dez.
They are saying that and will still ask Zeke's agent for a pay cut.

Do you put out ads in the newspaper if your wife can't cook?

Please use common sense with this stuff.

Stop taking Jerry seriously. We have 25 years of obvious nonsensical gibberish to go by.

i mean... it's played out. "we go as zeke goes" and they insisted on featuring zeke when tony is clearly the more explosive and dynamic player.

just like when they said "gurley is the starting point" for zeke and then gave him the ludicrous deal. don't think people who are hearing what jerry's saying in this case are the goofy ones

IF you take a guy who talks about gloryholes seriously that 100% makes you goofy.

Jerry has never pretended to NOT offer constant misinformation.

Zeke has 20 something more carries than Pollard on the YEAR.
Fans are just not very smart and pretend TP has been getting just scraps all year.
Without Zeke in uniform theystill only gave TP 14 carries.
He is not a 20+-carry guy. He is on pace to get about 150 carries which is his career high across all levels of football including High School.

He is being used very effectively.
Fans just love to cry about problems that do not exist.
Dallas recognized TP is a weapon long ago and spent all off-season talking that up.
He started week 1. Then with a back up QB they went to an offense that milked ckock and pounded the ball into the dirt.
They've used Zeke as a FB some and given TP snaps as a slot as well.

The team is averaging 131 yards a game rushing with over a TD a game on the ground.

Cut Zeke, tag Pollard. Then draft a RB in the 3rd or 4th. Deep RB class this year.

this is what they SHOULD do...but I doubt they will. This is what winning organization's do. Instead, they will keep Zeke in '23, let Pollard walk and draft someone else...then cut Zeke in '24

The old man and his kid manage it like a fantasy football team. The cruel irony is, JJ apparently lets emotion get in the way of doing business the right way with his football team. Yet I have a strong feeling he doesn't do that with his other lines of business in the oil and gas biz. But like I said, the football team is his play thing. Winning is a bonus but not imperative, he's proven that many times over the last quarter century of mediocrity.
