It was the only way to fight Floyd and get the big payday. If they fight in the street, Floyd's unconscious in seconds. He needs these rules to survive.

It's a career pay day for Conor.
It would be unfair anyway. There are boxing elements in MMA. There are no other fighting styles in boxing. It isn't just about a mismatch for Floyd, there isn't anything else that would make any sense. Floyd is sure helping out Conor a lot more than the other way around.

This is exactly.

Conor will make enormous money on a fight that he's never going to truly be given a chance to win.

Mayweather will hit and run all night, out point Conor.

I doubt Conor ever gets any serious chances to land his big left. I'll be hoping he does but I doubt he gets any real chances to do so.

McGregor is not a tactician, he tries to overwhelm you. I can see him overextending trying to get a big hit (since that's his only chance to win the fight), and getting lit up by wide open shots.

Pure money grab, but I can't say I blame either party.

Both guys are masters of promotion. The fight will probably be a snore fest (like every Mayweather fight), but people obviously want to see it, so here we go!

Personally, I don't understand most people's infatuation with Mayweather. From a pure boxing perspective, I don't see how anyone other than a boxing purist could be entertained by his fighting style. I miss the glory days of boxing when there was an actual physical side to it with a potential knockout blow coming at any time -- not just technical maneuvers trying to rack up points in each round to come out ahead at the end.

Mayweather is a defensive version of Roy Jones Jr. Both masters of countering and stick and move. Jones however was aggressive and attacked.

IMO McGregor has a punchers chance. He has not dealt with someone like Mayweather though, a tactician with agility, speed and the chin to stand in with a puncher.

The reason I brought up Kickboxing is because it is standup and gives McGregor a better chance at winning. It would allow both fighters to use their skills and would be a better crossover fight.

I agree though that either way, McGregor, greatly benefits from the fight regardless of outcome.

You ever played a pick-up basketball game against someone that really doesn't know how to play and they end up making shots they really shouldn't because they weren't moving or reacting in a way you're used to seeing on the court?

I imagine to a certain extent that could happen with Mayweather against McGregor. If I'm McGregor, the worst thing to do is try to behave like a typical boxer (but obviously fighting within the rules of boxing); he should be himself and create space and angles the way he does with his standup in MMA.

You obviously don't pay attention to PPV numbers. McGregor can pick and choose big PPV fights. Floyd's PPV numbers have been in decline other than the fight with Manny.

If Floyd wants another 100 plus million dollar pay day in a fight people care about he needs Conor as much as Conor needs him.

Why isn't it fair? If Floyd's boxing is so stellar than box your way to victory in an MMA fight. The problem is he knows he'd get beheaded in a real fight. He needs these sissy boxing rules to survive the encounter. It's why he won't even entertain making it at least a kickboxing bout.

We already saw what happens when a world class boxer gets into the Octagon with an MMA fighter. Toney didn't even last a round with Couture. It'd be the same thing here.

PPV numbers don't equate to McGregors pockets. There isnt any way he was going to make this kind of money on a straight MMA fight. Floyd is greedy and is looking for additional big payouts yes, and this presents the best opportunity, but he is already made more money then Conor could possibly ever imagine fighting. So yes, Conor needed Floyd MORE THAN the other way around.

This is the most fair way to do the fight. Floyd is fighting for legacy. Conor is the one that challenged him to a boxing match. Why? Because thats the only way he gets the payday he is looking for. Floyd didnt go out there promoting that he could win an MMA fight, which would be stupid.
