One benefit of living in 2024 is having every major sporting event on earth only a few mouse clicks away - for free.

Re the plans for an 18-game season: You'd think the player's union would object? Compared to the 14-game season a lot of us grew up with, the players are basically putting in an extra campaign every four years.

Has a pro football game every been played on a Tuesday or Wednesday?
I think there may have been a COVID game that ended up on Tuesday. I'm not sure about Wednesday. That will likely happen when they add 6 more teams and go to the 20-week schedule.

Yes in 2021 during Covid there was a game that was canceled and rescheduled for Wednesday. Believe it was Baltimore.

If the NFL could figure out a way, there would be a game on TV every day.
Greed is going to be their downfall. What made the league so great was it only aired 2 times a week Sundays and Monday's originally. The buildup to those games was great. Now it doesn't matter. Most of the games are unwatchable if last year is any indication. They are spreading the product too thin. And I didn't miss not watching the Thursday night games. From what I hear most of them were awful. The only game I watched on Thursday was the Commanders because I got that game free and the Cowboys which I watched on delay on NFL Network. If I ever decided to pick up Netflix or Amazon it wouldn't have anything to do with the NFL..

Despite whatever our personal feelings are about the expansion of games and or days broadcast it has increased viewers and revenue.

FYI.. Amazon/Prime does offer 30 days free trial each calendar year. I haven’t had to pay yet for last two seasons watching the Cowboys and 3 other games .

Giving all teams the opportunity to be featured is great in theory but man most Mon & Thur night games the last few years have been poor to unwatchable. If I watch a full Sun afternoon, I'm burnt out by Sun night nowadays.

Making the Cowboys Christmas Day game a pay channel event would be a foolish business decision by the league.

That’s arguable if Netflix is willing to pay 100 million for one game.

And worth noting is it would have to be broadcast on local network in home Dallas / Ft Worth market.

What about rest days between the game before and the Christmas Day game?

The four teams who are chosen to play on Christmas Day will also be guaranteed to play the previous Saturday. That would give three days between games, which is the same amount of time that is between a typical Sunday game and a Thursday game when teams are involved in that game.
When the league is forced to choose between virtue signaling or making money, money wins every time.
But don't worry, they have the option to put a stupid padded bag over their helmets, so they'll be okay...lol.

Well, that’s the basis of the subject that Netflix is willing to pay 100 million. Hardly a foolish business decision by the NFL.

Maybe it’s a reasonable argument for Netflix to pay that much but not for NFL to take.

Yea, I’m an old timer so I get the frustration.

But purist must begin to accept the league has evolved into a more entertainment sports entity which is attracting more casual , fringe and fantasy fans setting revenue records. There’s no going back.

The NFL would make more money in advertisement dollars by giving the game to one of the main networks like FOX. Unnecessarily losing those dollars by providing the game to Netflix is foolish. Netflix's offer is not competitive. There is no reasonable argument here.

I don’t have any info or data to support your notion. Netflix won’t be selling advertisement for the game?

The NFL is set to have two games on Christmas Day this year which is strange given that Christmas falls on a Wednesday in 2024.

It remains unclear at the time of this writing which broadcast partner will wind up with the rights to broadcast the league’s Christmas Day games, but current reports suggest that it could wind up being Netflix.

Presuming that Netflix does wind up with the Christmas Day games it is safe to assume that they are going to want their money’s worth because it will likely be a large investment.

According to Puck report, the reason that the NFL schedule has taken a bit longer to be released this year has been the closing of the deal between the league and the would-be home of the Christmas Day games.

In the spirit of throwing things out for discussion - it would make a lot of sense for someone who is paying a lot of money for a Christmas Day game to want the best possible results which would mean it would make sense to involve the Cowboys.

I heard the exact same thing a few days ago. But they mentioned the Packers. Because the Packers are right behind the Cowboys in popularity.

What happened to player health?
Player health is only considered when the consequences of doing so has no negative impact on the money flow. For example, the new kickoff rules. They'd go back to the old kickoff rules faster than the Cowboys choked against the Packers if they lost viewers because of it.

They're going to do what they want until it bites them. The only reason I ever watch Thursday night is because I'm at work. I only get the second half by the time I turn it on. I'll watch the first half at home if the Cowboys are playing.

I've had Netflix and amazon prime for quite some time. I'm probably going to drop Netflix because it's not that good. Maybe pick up Hulu. But no way I get a streaming service for the NFL.
