Some things unmentioned:

1) Don't allow the big pass. For some reason, Shockey and Burress always seem to do well against us. That can't happen.

2) Don't let their front four get pressure. Regardless of the QB, we need to stop their front four and complete passes, and then, when they finally decide to blitz, burn them with hot reads (crazy thought, I know). Do this and Jones can run on them.

3) ST - this needs to be a good field position game.

4) Beat a quality opponent at home and look good doing it. This could do wonders for our season. We'll see though. We will need something good going into Carolina.

I'm more afraid of Tiki Barber running all over the Cowboys than I am the big pass plays.

If they can shut down Barber, I think they can withstand a couple of big pass plays.

I hope they sell out to stop the run to start the game, and allow their d-backs see if they can shut down the receivers.

The Giants are not soft up the middle. Robbins and Cofield are playing very well. The Giants' secondary has been playing well the last two games. The problem was communication. They fixed some things during their bye week and are playing much better. Especially Madison. If you don't think Eli can beat you, you don't know anything about the Giants.

That being said, I expect a physical, hard fought game where the outcome can go either way.
Good to see you Tom. You don't spend enough time here.

Eli can beat us, but Tiki is more likely to be the killer. IMO. Eli is maturing and is going to be a force and he has good weapons, but he like Bledsoe can beat his own team with mistakes.

We need to have a strong/quick start. If we don't put them down early and keep them down, it will be a long night.

Good points Senor Hos...

And we need to get some big plays. There are a lot of playmakers on that Giant team. We need to match them.

Don't know that we need to have big plays...

We need to avoid the negative plays that have plagued us thus far; the stupid penalties and the turnovers!

If we contain Tiki, Shockey, and Burress and protect Bledsoe, and avoid the negative plays, we win. Easier said than done...

The Giants always play well in Dallas - we cannot say vice versa , sadly.

- Very Simple - Roy Williams will be the target , the Giants love to throw deep , get Toomer man to man and Burress coming open deep down the middle with Shockey running crossing routes , Roy has to recognize this and foresake the run support next week - meaning DWare and Co. are gonna have to get it done 7up -not 8. Shockey burned Roy a few times last season in the game in Big D.

- Bledsoe , Bledsoe , Bledsoe how he goes is how the Cowboys go.

As the lone Giants fan here, I have to say you know our offense well. Those are the plays the OC Jon Hufnagel calls. Intermediate to long passes. I really do hate that. :banghead: It's very easy for Eli to throw high on intermediate passes, hence all those tipped passess that result in INTs. :(

Now alot of you guys speak of containing the Defensive Ends, and it's true, they have been on a tear lately. But the real mechanism that makes our pass-rush go is the play of the Defensive Tackles. Fred Robbins has been playing like a man possessed. He is a pass rusher mostly but can play the run. He had a good game yesterday, and his collapsing the pocket closed off Mike Vick's escape routes. Bledsoe will never escape effective pass rushing up the middle. So the play of the Guards and Center is the most important thing against the Giants Defense. Stop Fred Robbins, and you can double either Osi or Strahan.

If there are quick passes in the Cowboys playbook, the game against the Giants will be the one to bring them out. I have seen how awful we are at defending the pass, especially against Tight Ends. Witten worries me the most on the Cowboys offense. He's is damn good as a reciever. Our safeties seem to have the most trouble against the pass, and it's usually the SS who is assigned to cover the TE. And he has been smoked this year by TE's running routes up the middle.

But like you said, the Cowboys go as Bledsoe goes.

One more thing: If you have a lead on the Giants in the 4th quarter, do NOT go conservative. ;)

It's everyone on the OL; if the left tackle doesn't block the inside charge from the DE you have a busted play no matter who the QB is.

Philadelphia was on fire two weeks ago, they wre calling the right blitzes at the right time and bringing big-time crowd noise with it. Dallas's OL execution was terrible and the Cowboy gameplan did not address the blitz properly.

I wouldn't expect that combination of events to happen again. The Giants will get their pressures in, they're too good a defensive front not to. But Dallas is a balanced offense that can run and pass, so Dallas will also get in their plays as well.

IMO, this game comes down to containing Tiki Barber and not letting Burress or Shockey get going early on. DeMarcus, Marcus, and Canty have to prove they are worth their pedigree this Monday.

The reason is simple. They are 2-0 in the division and we are 1-1. If they are 3-0 and we are 1-2 that is a hill we don't want to climb.

So, let's hear your theories on how to get the job done. How do we beat the Giants?

I'd love to see a serious football thread with no baiting and whining, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Key #1, we have to make Eli beat us not Tiki Barber. Now, Eli is capable of doing this, but we cannot allow Tiki to give them a ball control edge. This also means that we put Eli under a lot of pressure. We need to hit him like he stole something. Pressure, pressure, pressure.
Key #2, we can't allow the Giants DE's to get on track with their QB sacks and pressure. This is something we have to focus on and keep Bledsoe upright in this game more than most others we play.

Key #3, for the love of all that's holy, we have to quit inviting the yellow laundry. The penalties are mental errors more than physical errors and that is a trend we can't afford.

Key #4, Julius and Barber need to average 4.5 yards per carry and catch a few passes. The Giants LBs will over pursue, that means screens and draws can be huge for us.

Key #5, we need to take the ball away, but not give it away. Always a key IMO.

Key #6, lastly we cannot get caught up in another hype game like the Eagles. Yeah, it's MNF but that doesn't mean we need players hamming for the spotlight. Just do your jobs and win the game. That's so much more important that shining for the bright lights.

We have to stop Tiki Barber, plain and simple. If we shut down Barber, I think we win this game, barring a negative turnover margin.

We win this game. It's the 3 games on the road in a row that worries me. At minimum, we have to win at least 1 of 3, 2/3 would be great IMO. Then I like how our schedule plays out.

The Cowboys defense has been very good vs. the run so far this season. For the most part, they've been good against the pass too, except for the tendency to give up the occasional big pass play. The soft spot on the Dallas D seems to be giving up the occasional big pass.

I feel good about the CBs in coverage, even in single coverage. But I'd just as soon not see the FS and SS covering for a CB blitz.... Too high a risk for the reward.

----

The Cowboys have gotta be more consistent in kick coverage. Parcells says that he thinks there is enough speed on the punt coverage team to allow McBriar to consistently kick away, but the Cowboys gave up one long punt return yesterday which nearly went for a Texans TD. On that play, to me, it looked like McBriar outkicked the coverage. (I haven't seen a replay, though).

The Cowboys punt return game hasn't showed much at all, particularly when anyone other than T-New lines up deep. Crayton seems to be a safe and reliable fielder who gets almost no yards. Green scares me. IMO he hasn't shown that his rewards outweigh his risks as a punt returner. I'd like to see T-New return a few vs. the Giants.
