In this order:

Cut down on the penalties.
Limit their pass rush inside.
Establish the running game.
Take advantage of their secondary.
Pressure Manning.

Easy to say....maybe a bit harder to do. It is a big test for Columbo and the rest of the OL. They haven't done particularly well against the other pressure defenses (on the road). We'll see how they perform but it should be a bit easier at home.

The reason is simple. They are 2-0 in the division and we are 1-1. If they are 3-0 and we are 1-2 that is a hill we don't want to climb.

So, let's hear your theories on how to get the job done. How do we beat the Giants?

I'd love to see a serious football thread with no baiting and whining, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Key #1, we have to make Eli beat us not Tiki Barber. Now, Eli is capable of doing this, but we cannot allow Tiki to give them a ball control edge. This also means that we put Eli under a lot of pressure. We need to hit him like he stole something. Pressure, pressure, pressure.

Key #2, we can't allow the Giants DE's to get on track with their QB sacks and pressure. This is something we have to focus on and keep Bledsoe upright in this game more than most others we play.

Key #3, for the love of all that's holy, we have to quit inviting the yellow laundry. The penalties are mental errors more than physical errors and that is a trend we can't afford.

Key #4, Julius and Barber need to average 4.5 yards per carry and catch a few passes. The Giants LBs will over pursue, that means screens and draws can be huge for us.

Key #5, we need to take the ball away, but not give it away. Always a key IMO.

Key #6, lastly we cannot get caught up in another hype game like the Eagles. Yeah, it's MNF but that doesn't mean we need players hamming for the spotlight. Just do your jobs and win the game. That's so much more important that shining for the bright lights.

this is a good anaylsis hostile.

I would like to add.

the giants last year were the team that stunted and confused our line. they did it first, then everyone followed suit, now after that game adams was out, but it was also that the giants stunted and confused us up front forcing four turnovers.

The key to me on offense is going to be being able to control the push fred robbins gets with pierce and arrington coming on bltizes between the lg and tackle. IF gurode can handle robbins one on one, then adams, kosier and fasano should be able to pick up the blitz, if gurode struggles with that initial push and needs help that blitz is going to be very troublesome.

Gibril wilson is a good player, he can blitz and he can cover, as you stated when the safeties and linebackers are being aggressive we need to make them pay, Play action has to be effective, it cant be run like the last two weeks where when bledsoe turns around he is getting hit.

Yesterday houston was pressing all of our wr and bringing a safety occasionally on a blitz, I look for the giants to press outside and try to blow up the middle. We need to back them off, and when they do this we need jones to break a big run. One of julius big runs yesterday houston was bumping outside and moving the ss into the slot on the left and jones made the first guy miss and because of the press there is no one there. Jones needs to break a big play to back off the corners and give owens and glenn some room.

ON defense, this is going to be a struggle. We have to force the ball underneath and keep tiki at a reasonable amount.

We have been starting slow and teams have come out and pushed us around in the running game in the first quarter, we cant let that happen. if they run well we maybe in over our heads.

I have faith we will get pressure this week because ellis can beat mckenzie and ware should be able to do what he wants against luke p.

Eli didnt play well in the stadium last year and he looked rattled until the last drive, if we hit him often like last year we should dictate the tempo of the game.

I agree this is the most critical game of the season so far. We need to hold serve at home in all divisional games. We are outscoring our opponents 61-16 at home and the team should be fired up for this weeks game.

Last thing. Keep shockey out of the game, bracket him with james and williams most of the day, he can not become a factor because that changes how we can play the run, take shockey out of it early and then stop the run.

Conventionally stating, stopping the run is a must, particularly Tiki Barber. However, as we painfully learned in the Eagles game, stopping the run does not guarantee winning in the absolute. Stopping quick strike big plays is more damaging in my opinion and very demoralizing to us. Either way it is pick your poison, but the bottom line is we have to control the run and cover effectively.

We really have to befuddle Eli Manning and keep him on his heels to minimize their scoring potential. At the same token our Oline and quarterback have to demonstrate they can effectively perform against good defenses.

Thus far we have proven we can beat teams with bad records and mediocre defenses.

I think we can control their wide-outs. I'm concerned (as always) with Roy being able to cover Shockey.

he wont be on him alone unless we are on the goaline.

I would imagine they would bracket him with james and williams.

My concern is them max protecting and throwing deep on watkins. They have the firepower to do that.

I maybe in the minority here but I think I would rather protect against the pass than the run as I think they are by far more dangerous passing than they are running...I also believe we can stop their running with 7 guys in the box

This game could define the season. We must
win this game and take a couple of road games
home.We win the games we should, but can't beat
a good team. This team must make a stand now and
put it all together,or the wheels will come off.

I think we can accomplish almost all your points. The one thing we will not be able to do is point #2. They rush too well, our OL is not good enough, and DB is too stationary. The question in my mind, is can we do all the others things well enough to overcome probably 5 (or more sacks) and 2-3 int's.

I expect Carolina and Seattle to be playoff teams, but when these unexpecteds start cropping up then it's even more important to put these home games in the win column.

You aren't saying NY is unexpected are you? Many people picked them to win the division. Them being good is no surprise to anyone I know.

I know we are notorious in Dallas for not creating a home crowd environment. But a loud monday night home crowd could go a very long way for us.

It literally propelled the Saints to victory over the Iggles.

The crowd noise forced multiple time outs in the 2nd half, and left Fat Andy with no time outs at the end of the game. The Saints were able to sit on the ball and kick the last FG with no time left.

Go Cowboys Fans - MAKE SOME NOISE !!!

We have to stop Tiki, even if it means no pass rush on Eli...must stop the run first...period. WE have to run the ball.... a lot.

Keep the game close and hope to win at the end....that's the only way this team can win on the road against a good team.

I think the Giants will be favored by at least 6.

The game is in Dallas

I'm not worried that much about it unless they blitz, but they are not a blitzing unit like Philly is.

But we've got to handle the pressure when they only bring 3-4. We didn't do that against Philthy.

It is vital that we win this game. We need to hold serve at home in the division, and it would be helpful to take a two game winning streak into our three game road trip.

I like our chances in this game. We have struggled against teams that are good at bringing inside pressure. The Giants are good at bringing outside pressure. They are actually week inside. We should attack them with a lot of runs and then play-action to attack their weak secondary. As long as Parcells doesn't call a lot of slow developing pass plays, I think we win 30-23.

Many good points have been expressed here,,,, I would have to sum it up by saying that the Giants have too good of an offense to be stopped, so Bledsoe and company must have a productive game, period. They'll need at least 24pts even if the Dallas D does well,,,, more likely they'll need 30pts.

The Giants are not soft up the middle. Robbins and Cofield are playing very well. The Giants' secondary has been playing well the last two games. The problem was communication. They fixed some things during their bye week and are playing much better. Especially Madison. If you don't think Eli can beat you, you don't know anything about the Giants.

That being said, I expect a physical, hard fought game where the outcome can go either way.

The Giants rank 17th against the run. That puts them last in run defense in the division. They gave up 233 rushing yards against the Falcons.

We've lost to two good, but not elite, teams.
We've beaten two of the worst teams in the NFL by a wide margin.
We beat an average Wash team without Clinton Portis and Springs.
Who are we?
We'll have a much better idea after the NYG game. We sure as heck better play a lot better than we have the last 2 games.
My lingering suspicion is that right now we're about a wildcard team that may or may not win one game in the playoffs but certainly will be done rather quickly. Hopefully, we'll improve a lot between now and then and figure out how to utilize our talent better.
