Much as I liked Parcells as the coach, if for his personality if nothing else, I can't agree he "worked out very well". In 4 years, only made the playoffs twice and lost the first game both times. 34-31 or such overall record. Yes I know he took over a team that was 5-11 for 3 years straight, but coaches are judged by their record, and his record at Dallas was only so-so...
While his record is surely one measurement , another measurement is where did he leave the team from where he took over.

He took over arguably the Cowboys at his lowest point in Jerry era since 1989 after 3 straight 5-11seasons to rebuilding into a playoff contender. One that was set up for greater success.

2003 was perhaps the best coaching job in this era taking that 5-11 team to the playoffs with Quincy as QB.

Measuring where a Coach leaves a team is certainly one measurement worth mentioning.

We have had 3 HC’s in the Jerry era which have left the Cowboys in a better place than when they took over.
Jimmy, Bill and Jason.

Bill and Jason have been widely criticized for not having more success but their influence with Jerry and the teams rebuilding process delivered notable changes and more talent setting up the next HC in a better place than when they took over .

You betcha. After years of Dallas being stuck in the middle with Jason Garrett, McCarthy is the perfect remedy for what ails this team.
I actually like Jason Garrett and think he has some value. Just not as head coach of this team. I think he'd be a better coach for a young, expansion like team.

He built a 13-3 team. Why in the world would you say he didn't work out? Sorry, LA, that makes no sense.

This! From were we were the 3 years before he got there and look who he had at QB when he first got here. This roster was just flat out TERRIBLE. He worked a miracle and got this current stadium for old jerrah.

Garrett was a terrible passer. His QBing makes Dak look like John Elway. That is one crazy take!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You missed the point Pedro! For a starting NFL QB some of Daks passes have looked so bad Garrett could of made them

After a 5-3 1st (partial) year, he went 8-8 or worse 5 times in the next 9 years.
So where did he leave the team? 8-8.
He managed three playoff appearances, but never made it past the divisional round.
That's about as average as you can get. There's no frosting on that cake.

He left the team with enough talent for the next HC to be in position to contend now. This is not a rebuilding job Mike is taking over. Quite different from the 1-7 and 6-10 team Garrett took over.

If you don’t see the Cowboys in a better place in 2020 than 2011 then we’ll just have to disagree.

And those three divisional round appearances is more than Phillips, Parcells, Campo and Gailey made cumulatively.

the team quit on garrett. that says everything about garrett you need to know. he was given his job, he didn't earn it. and for 10 years he did nothing but strut around thinking he was god's gift to coaching. good bye, good luck, good riddance.

Yeah, 8-8 is quite different than 6-10? Well, by 2 games.
Not only that, you forget that Garrett was 1/2 of that lowly team he took over. He was OC and asst. HC with promise of HC. The team quit on him as much as they did on Phillips.
Almost forgot, JG did make 'em wear ties on the airplane though. That taught 'em a lesson.

If you don’t believe this roster and franchise are in a better place in 2019 than 2011 then we’ll just have to disagree.

We’ve had 3 HC’s in the Jerry era influence building a better team leaving the franchise in a better place than it begun. Jimmy, Bill and Jason.

And despite the frustrations and disappointments Garrett had more success with 3 division titles and 2 playoff wins than Phillips, Parcells, Campo and Gailey cumulatively.

We were a TD called back and a miraculous 3rd and 20 from finally breaking thru to our 1st championship games in 25 years now. Last 5 years best run we’ve had since 90’s Dynasty.

Was it enough . No . And why changes were made after a very disappointing season. That’s life in the NFL.

I'm not impressed by your tears for Garrett. You're so impressed with the 8-8 status of the Cowboys, tell me how impressed you are that it took him 10 freaking years to attain that "better place in 2019 than 2011".
You're exactly right, we will indeed have to disagree. End of story.

Like I said it was time for Garrett to go but we should also be fair in our assessment especially compared to the preceding HC’s in this disappointing era looking at his accumulative record.

And his long tenure is on Jerry and where our core frustrations should rest. The one constant throughout.

Let’s hope the next HC has more success than the last 5 HC’s since 90’s Dynasty.

Yeah right, don't blame Garrett for his own incompetence. Pass the buck.
You've always given Garrett a pass. Sorry, but no cigar.
