I think Allen pulled up on that play because Carr was coming in from his left. Carr could have probably knocked the hell out of Smith but went at his ankles.

Carr was coming off of a block and had no momentum. He did the right thing. Wilcox would've handled that tackle like a real safety should.

It doesn't matter what Carr was doing. He basically got right into the path of any sort of big hit. If Allen had committed to a big hit and Carr doesn't go low, Allen hits Carr just as much as Smith.

Well agree to disagree.

I hope he's saving his money as I see a lot of highlight reel hits, but unfortunately fines as well.

What I like is that Allen was hurting our defense, and Monte and Marinelli knew this sooner rather then later. I also hope it pushes Allen to be better.

This....

To many times when we are 5-4 or lower win wise...is when we decide to make changes

If your going to lose it might as well be with the rookies so we can see if they have anything.

yeah no sense in losing with a guy, who maybe only has 2 years left, and is playing like a fool anyways.

Boom!

If he's already earned a starting spot this soon after only playing 1 year on defense at a small school, then there's no doubt this kid is the real deal, and we hit a homerun.

He's just a natural football player. He's gonna light up some people this year.

Frankly this shows me a continuation of something that I've been seeing more and more of as Garrett's tenure has gone on: The propensity to play the best guy no matter what. It doesn't matter if you make less that the guy in front of you, or if you are a rookie and the other guy is a 10 year vet free agent pick up... you play better and you practice better and you will see the field.

To me that is one of the keys of a healthy franchise.

Make no mistake, the franchise is finally being run the correct way.

Yea he has some of Jimmy Johnson instilled in him . Now only if he can fix the offense and not be scared to call something other than a out or a slant and be more creative and we might actually go somewhere.

Did he win or is Will Allen that bad?

Probably 40/60 in favor of Allen being a terrible football player.

I mean you could be right man, but there is no doubt that Wilcox has really showed something ever since he stepped foot at Valley Ranch. If he wasn't pretty exceptional I seriously doubt they're making this move this early. Seriously.

What we do know is that:

1) Wilcox will absolutely blow up the ball carrier and will provide a physical presence that we haven't really had since Good Roy Williams (safety) was roaming the secondary.
2) He has a knack for being around the ball and in the right place at the right time.
3) He is a ball hawk.
4) He is a very bright kid who picks things up very quickly.
5) He is a natural for the position and progressed by leaps and bounds since moving over to defense.

Just the fact that Kiffin is known as somewhat of a Safety guru and he is promoting him after two games is a very, very good sign that Wilcox is a real player.

Besides, Allen hasn't been so bad that Kiffin or Garrett would plug in a rookie safety from Georgia Southern who only played defense for one year... not unless that rookie has shown something exceptional.

Ok guys get ready for some breakdowns on the back end that we are not accustomed to seeing here in big D.
No wait....
In all seriousness , I'm excited for the kid and excited to watch him. Good luck jj

Breakdowns on the backe end? You mean like Allen's blown coverage on Victor Cruz's 80 yard TD. I love the move to start Wilcox

Nice post. I love the kid will get game experience and I agree he brings some needed talent.

I'm not convinced this is a good move short term but it might be. Rookies make mistakes esp ones who have only played DB one year in FCS. They are making it for a reason and they know all that better than anyone here so I'm eager to see what we get. This may light the scheme up to what Kiffin needs and end up being more positive than negative.
