This whole deal was an elaborate scheme orchestrated by Jerry Jones in order to screw Danny-boy and the Commanders.
You know it! Personally, I sense Karl Rove at work here. Hey, he's responsible for everything else (bad breath, global warming, male pattern baldness)--why not this?!

I can't talk at extremeskins right now because all I will get is ridiculous spin about how this was planned all along and how no cap in 2007 is going to save our team.

Well, at least you're being a rational skins fan. All the ESPN reports last night said that Snyder was one of the 9 who met last night--& they were UNANIMOUS. The vote today was UNANIMOUS. Hey--I live in the DC area, & even here UNANIMOUS means what it means everywhere else!

The one to blame for the skins cap mess is Danny Boy. He's been warned for years that he would eventually have to pay for all his "cleverness" in trying to finagle the cap. It's finally caught up with him. Apparently he just thought he was smarter than everyone else in thinking up these schemes. (There may have been a reason why other teams didn't pull those shenanigans--because they had learned the hard way!)

Why do you think Snyder agreed to this though, knowing our team NEEDS the extension to enhance personnel for next year?

Sorry in that case. I'm just pissed off and looking for a reason to hate Jones and Lurie cause they are in better cap shape!

Because an extension only gets him another year deeper (with a little, but not enough relief)...an un-capped year get him out altogether. Excellarate all large bunus' to 2007 and in 2008 he's smelling like a rose.

Because the percentages demanded by the NFLPA are not in line with what is considered a fair profit margin given opperating costs, etc.

This no cap thing in 2007 is not going to be a bonanza IMO for the players.

I would think that all the owners would be very hesitant to sign any deals that year not knowing what the future will hold the following year. (lockout/ Strike or whatever)

All the clauses that both sides put in for what happens after 2006 force the sides into some sort of impass, and I can't see any way, without a new agreement, that their will be NFL in 2008!

It's the money. This year's problems are only a drop in the bucket compared to what's at stake for the next 10 - 20 years. If he, Jones, Lurie, etc., give in to the union, they lose many millions of dollars each year and they are all in it for the profit - no matter what they tell you.

It's the great American way. We, of course, are willing to give these millionaires on both sides as much money from our own pockets as it takes for them to continue to feed our addiction.

I'm so angry right now that after work I think I'm going to get drunk and look for a barfight. Its either that or put a fist through my apartment wall and I don't want that to happen as I've already broken my hand once doing that (during the Giants game this year).

I know how you feel; you broke your hand, so did I and I also I broke my foot once kicking something in anger. That's the reason why I finally quit hitting and kicking things in anger. When you fight the wall and the wall, wins, it's time to change strategy.

I finally learned to control my anger - and I had a lot of it.

Face it, Riggo F., you guys are going to where the Boys have been but you will have the uncapped years to recover quickly, it took the boys several years to dig themselves out of the mess they got themselves into.

It is more than simply 4 percentage points. The issue, as I understand it, is that the money the league is offering, 56.2% is based on the television and ticket revenue. What the PA wants is 60+% based on ALL revenues (including merchandise, luxury suites, stadium naming rights, etc.). That is a significantly higher amount than simply 4%.

It also carries a lot of ramifications. Not all teams own their own stadium. Not all teams have luxury suites. Not all teams have sold the naming rights to the stadium or even own those rights to sell them since they don't own the stadium. Some teams would be hit much harder than others and that was the crux of the earlier issue between the owners.

What the PA is asking for is unreasonable. If they would come back with and offer of 58% of the adjusted revenue (or whatever it is called) then the league would probably go for it as it is a simple calculation and all teams would be hit the same.

The fact that ALL of the owners rejected the PA's demands should tell Upshaw that he doesn't stand a chance of winning and he should accept their deal while it is still available. It is the best one he is going to be offered.

After you have been posting here in this fountain of reason, how could you even consider going back to that snakepit of blind homerism at ES? You can knock the Cowboys all you want here as long as you stay within the guidelines, whereas at ES, any anti-Commanders statement will get you banned. They are afraid to even hear the words of the opposition - that's paranoia.

Sorry.

Think about it this way.

Teams are wanting to share revenues within the teams themselves. If you are a high market team that takes a cut out of your steak. Now take another cut out of the steak with the revenue sharing numbers the NFLPA is asking for (reportedly 60%). Now take another cut out of the steak for the cap increase they want.

How much steak do you have left?

The entire problem as I see it is actually greed. The NFL owners have transferred a lot of the revenue from tickets and the like to parking, suites, stadium license fees and other related stadium revenue. The reason a blue parking pass is $50 and the most expensive ticket is $93 dollars is because Jerry has redistributed the revenue from ticket sales where he get 30%+ percentage of to parking and licensing fees where he gets to keep 100% of the revenue. The players realize this and are asking for those revenues to be included. The net effect is in the range of $10+/- million per team. That is around $100 million in actual value to the franchise. So the players are asking these crafty businessmen to give up $10 million a year in revenue and around $100 million in equity in the franchise. Not that difficult to understand from a commercial real estate perspective.

The cost for season tickets for a $93 ticket is actually $2,730 per year. The players are only sharing $930 dollars per ticket per year. I understand why the teams don't want to share the other $1800. Some of these teams actually need to have the extra revenue to pay the debt on the new stadiums and debt to purchase the franchise.

See post above, it is more of an in depth look at why Jerry and others don't want to give in.

Art (the big boy at ExtremeSkins) is saying this a good thing for the Commanders, and that they will actually be better this then last year, and even better in years to come!

I questioned his logic....and it was "see you, it's been fun"!

And "poof"...I was gone, and so was the thread! What's with those people over there, anyway?
