The time is now more than ever. He is in his 30s and now is having more work done to his back. Not good at all. Still hated that Jerry felt the need to give him a big contract extension.

What scares me is what this franchise has drafted for QBs to hopefully be our future. It's mind numbing how bad that list is. The last few being Quincy and McGee.

They have to get this right....

Finding a franchise QB is tough. A lot of teams have a list of poor QB choices.

I agree. Even if Tony comes back for 2-3 good years, why not have guy ready to take over. Obviously Carter was a joke and McGee was an after thought backup pick in rd 4. Hopefully if they use 1 or 2 on a QB they will get quality.

More the reason not to ignore the position every year, whether you have a franchise QB or not.

Thinking "we've got Tony so there's no reason to waste resources on QB" is foolish, to me. We're talking about the most important position on the team, and as this week shows, you never know when you might need a good, young QB.

I said it before, but how "foolish" do the Eagles look now selecting Foles with the "great" Vick already in tow? Or, the Pack with Rodgers/Farve? Etc.

Again, can't bury your head at the QB position, so take as many shots as you can until you find the one.

Jerry and Stephen will spin it this offseason saying Tony will be fine and ready to go in 14. I bet Romo doesn't even touch a football until training camp at the earliest. Those herniated disc injuries are career Enders. Romo will never be the same qb going on 34 years old and a bad back.

Kirk Cousins. I have no problems giving the Commanders a first rounder for him.

Ive been saying this for years, yet we go ahead and sign this 34 year old QB who hasn;t won us a DAMN thing in 8 years to a contract extension.
and you have been wrong for years so why should you be right now?

By the way I know you never attended Football 101 when you spew the stupidity about how QBs win games all by themselves

8 years. One playoff win. Choking multiple times. This is not a coincidence anymore. Hes had EIGHT YEARS. EIGHT. It's time to move on. It was a great story at first, but Romo isn't a winning QB. His track record proves this.

I agree, and I wish we were better prepared for this, but the reality is we had more pressing needs. The Packers situation is an anomaly, but they sure were good at picking them. As for the Eagles, I think they saw the writing on the wall with Vick. They knew he wouldn't last. The Colts never addressed when they had Peyton, and now they have Luck. Yeah, they had to suffer through crappy year to get him, but it worked out. Point is, whether you address it proactively or reactively, it still takes a good bit of fortune to find your next franchise guy.

No doubt, but you can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket.

As history has proven (including ours), you don't always have to find one in the first round.

That's the problem. Since Aikman has retired, they have never even tried to really find a QB in the draft to groom. They tried to get by with older vets who were on the downside of their career in Testaverde and Bledsoe. Neither were even close to what they once was. And trying to throw darts blindly at the board and hoping something sticks ala Leaf and Hutchinson.

Carter may have been a joke but we were serious about him. He was a 2nd round pick and thought he was going to be our guy. Especially after 2003. That's my fear. Many had Carter as a 6th round talent.

And that's another problem. 4th round picks should not be afterthought backups, especially at QB. You don't draft a QB to be a career backup. Wilson was drafted in the 3rd round. Brady in the 6th. Now of course this is not the norm but we waste so many draft picks.

I agree. But we will NEVER find one if we don't look.

Many were available to us ... Andy Dalton, Kapernaek, Russell Wilson, even Nick Foles.

We can't take waivers on the next QB anymore.

Exactly. Just because we had Romo, we feel the need to not even try to look. Packers did it the right way. Drafted Rodgers while Favre still had about 3-4 years left of being good. Pats drafted Brady while Bledsoe was still really good. Eagles drafted Foles while they had Vick. Seahawks still drafted Wilson even after giving a big contract to Flynn. Niners got Kaep yet they had Alex Smith. And look where those franchises are at now.

Right, just look at guys like Foles, Kaep, etc. Be interesting to see how we approach it this year. Should be a lot of good ones coming in the draft.

My offseason plans involved signing Melton and then drafting the best FS and DT/DE in the first two rounds. Now with this injury and Melton getting arrested, it's back to the drawing board. This draft could be a great one for QBs if they all come out and this may be time to get one early.
