This comes from Romo who to this day will tell you it was all Payton & Lee, if Henson would have shown even a little something i believe Romo would've been booted.
A lot of us here have mentioned David Lee but I don't recall Romo mentioning it. Doesn't mean he (Romo) doesn't credit Lee; I think we can all agree that he was very good for a young Romo. What I do recall is Romo telling everyone he wasn't ready and couldn't even throw the ball properly. He told people the best thing that happened to him was Testaverde because he showed Romo how to prepare the right way.
And as for Henson, you can say that with anyone. People play for their jobs every year. But BP started Henson and yanked him after the half just to prove a point to Jones. Henson was not a BP guy and Henson will tell you in interviews he never felt he got the chance in Dallas. Reason being it was obvious to an experienced coach like BP what he had in Henson. BP made his decision and he made it early; you just weren't paying attention. If you also recall people asked him why Romo didn't go to NFL Europe and BP stated that Romo could learn more at VR. Guess who went to NFL Europe? Henson, the 3rd round pick while the UFA stayed at VR..
And I don;t disagree that David Lee was a good QB coach but it doesn't matter what you and I think. Jerry Jones thought he was so critical to Romo's success that he let David Lee leave for the college game after BP left, only to be rehired by Parcells as Miami's QB coach once he took the Miami job 2 years later. We then got Wade Phillips and Wade Wilson as QB coach. Romo didn't stand a chance........
