That's the problem. Since Aikman has retired, they have never even tried to really find a QB in the draft to groom. They tried to get by with older vets who were on the downside of their career in Testaverde and Bledsoe. Neither were even close to what they once was. And trying to throw darts blindly at the board and hoping something sticks ala Leaf and Hutchinson.

Carter may have been a joke but we were serious about him. He was a 2nd round pick and thought he was going to be our guy. Especially after 2003. That's my fear. Many had Carter as a 6th round talent.

And that's another problem. 4th round picks should not be afterthought backups, especially at QB. You don't draft a QB to be a career backup. Wilson was drafted in the 3rd round. Brady in the 6th. Now of course this is not the norm but we waste so many draft picks.

You're being way too kind. It doesn't matter with this current bunch running the show at VR. They have no idea how to develop and groom a QB, regarless of where he's picked in the draft. We can say QC was an anomaly but they also gave up a third for Henson after a workout attended by our fearless leader who, by the way, also thought Chad Hutchinson was the second coming of Troy Aikman. It won't matter who we pick if we don;t get a real coaching staff with a HC who has a vision to build a team.

Next qb is being brought here to fail. Almost nobody can win with this trash currently assembled around romo. I give him a hard time but I realize he's one of the few things keeping us from being 4-10. When he leaves I'm not sure the Jones clan will get so lucky to have a qb that can masks a lot of deficiencies with the talent and coaching.

If they don't invest in a qb for the future then we're going to relive the horrible 00-06 qb search all over again. Jerry falls in love with players and refuses to believe that they could get injured.

Yeah, those 31 TDs, 10 picks, three 4th qtr comebacks, and 97 QB rating just scream " over the hill!".

Sarcasm aside, I do think back issues are nothing to ignore. I would not burn a 1st rounder though.

And to piggyback on this, you can give 100% of the credit for finding Romo to Payton (perhaps a bit to Parcells for keeping him on the roster and a bit to David Lee for developing him)

No part of the current brain trust has ever drafted, much less developed, a solid NFL starter.

Oh I get it. I thought it was time to move on and I never would have given him that extension, but I also realize that were not for Romo, we'd be looking at close to 15 years or futility under Jerry's rule.

The only real hope is for Dallas to bottom out to 2-14 and land a can't miss prospect that even the Jones boys can't screw up.

Credit for Romo goes 50-50 Payton & Lee since Parcells really had no use for him, and i have to disagree with you on them not drafting and developing starters. Dwayne Harris is a capable starter imo and JJ Wilcox for as stupid as he was on Sunday is still a potential starter if coached right.

Kirk Cousins. I have no problems giving the Commanders a first rounder for him.

I do. He's not anything special. He looks like a bus driver to me.

We really need to trade down or make a trade for somebody like Claiborne and get us either a late 1st or early 2nd round pick. Let the QB sit the bench for a year and then he should be able to compete in 2015.

This is the perfect draft to get his replacement.

Hundley
Carr
McCarron
Mettenberger
Murray
Boyd

All need a yr or so to groom

I agree we need to start looking for a future QB, and this has nothing to do with Romo other than his age. I still think he's a top QB in the league, and has good years ahead of him, but I'd sure like a QB to sit behind him and develop for a while. I don't want the same mess we had between Aikman and Romo.

I don't like McCarron or Mettenberger. At best they look like career back ups. Mettenberger and Murray will definitely need a year to groom since they both have knee injuries.

I also don't like the idea of trading a 1st round pick to get Cousins. He isn't worth that much.
