It's time to stop neglecting the 1 tech

Having that strong DT should also, in theory, help take some of the wear and tear off of the linebackers as well, since they aren't taking on 300 pounders on every play if the 1 tech is taking them on instead.

Until we start playing more two gap or even shoot and hold we aren't getting much gap control from our DL. Call Marinelli and have him change the defense.

He's going to go with Hayden, Irving & Crawford as 1-Techs this year with the possibility of a 4th round draft pick sprinkled in. Lots of DT's in this draft.
No need to get one in the first 3 rounds.

Jack Crawford is the backup to Hayden. Walker is huge.

There are some 3s, a CB, and a S/CB and I think we will see someone out of there. I'd be tempted to take an edge rusher but I think they will let Gregory try to step up and they can get another pass rusher from a 3, 5/7 or edge rusher/OLB. The latter is why I won't rule out Jack.

I don't care about a 1. I care about 3 or outside rusher.

Jack Crawford is a FA and frankly a JAG.

All we have are 3Ts and edge rushers. We need some beef no matter how Marinelli schemes.

TCrawford, Irving, Russell all are 3T/SDE types to go with DLawrence and RGregory(WDE).

There are plenty of DTs to get in 2-4 rounds.

Dallas needs to get a dt and DE in fa. Drafting one isn't going to help this season.

It's time to stop neglecting the safety position and get two safeties that can actually play. That will make a far bigger positive impact on this team than getting a good 1-tech.

YR, are you in the Ramsey camp for the 4th pick?

I don't care how much improvement needs to come with the pass rush, if we can't stop the run on 1st or 2nd down, then our 3rd down rushers cannot fully pass rush to the QB. There were too many times last year where it was 2nd and 2 or 3rd and I for us on defense. It's time to stop neglecting the 1 tech, and draft Jarran Reid from Alabama. We need to do better than Nick Hayden. Thoughts?

Good Luck

I think that is the strategy (with Terrell McClain added to the mix) unless a first round talent drops to our pick at 34. If they have Billings listed in the top 15 - 20 and he is there in the second round, I have to think they take him.

Not sure they will address it but if it were me I'd add 3/1s. Eventually you'll find someone who can do both well or just find a 1 tech looking for a 3. We have a fire plug although I'm not sure now why we need one. I used to call for a big guy but until we change the defense then we don't need one that often.

See my post above. They may add a 3 if they don't go with Ramsey or the CB (forget his name) otherwise an edge rusher or 3 is what you should expect in the first. Outside shot at a QB.

I would be ecstatic coming away with both DT Reed and DT Billings.

The jones boys and marinelli dont value the DT so dont get your hopes up.

With escobar injury, cowboys probably get another TE in 2nd round lol
And since they like the end rushers, probably a DE in 1st round.

Just like all the great drafting teams do, let the draft come to you. We don't have reach for a 1-tech or a safety for that matter.
This draft, according to Broaddus & Dan Brugler, is very deep at DT and there will be very good 1-techs in the 4th round of the
draft. We need to help the offense and Romo with at least 1 high pick and then let the rest of the draft feed the defense.
Championship!

YR, are you in the Ramsey camp for the 4th pick?

No. I think we should try and grab Lynch at 4. If not, maybe Wentz.

Going outside of QB I think is very dumb unless the QB isn't there. After that, I would have to see more of Ramsey. Always hard to get good footage of DB's in college. I like some of the things I've seen, but I like Byron at FS and I'm not too keen on Ramsey at CB. I like him better at FS as well. I'm just not sold on it at this point, but I could change my mind.

Well, Hayden and Crawford. The only time we see Irving is in nickel, when the Cowboys still utilize a 1- tech. In those instances, they play both DTs in the gap between guard and tackle (3-tech).

Irving is probably better suited for the 3 tech.

Hayden, Irving and Crawford as your 1-tech depth chart is embarrassing for a team that claims they are a healthy Romo away from being a legit SB contender.

Irving is going to put on some weight and strength this off-season. He will be well prepared to
come in and compete on 1-tech or 3-tech. The Boys will probably draft a 1-tech DT in the draft since
there are a boatload of them in this draft. Dane Brugler thinks we can still find a good one in the 4th round.

Lynch at 4?

Yes.

I think he has excellent potential as a future franchise QB. Most of his problems can be fixed rather easily as long as he stays on the bench for a year.

He has incredible arm strength which should only get better as he gets stronger and improves his mechanics. His height is a great advantage because he can make tough down the field throws in the face of the pass rush, he can use that height and overhand throwing motion on short passes and has a quick release on the short passes to be effective on quick screens. His mobility is excellent. He moves more like a 6'2" QB than a 6'7" QB. And he would work well in this offense because the offense is not so oriented around the QB's footwork like a WCO.

Personally, I think we would be stupid to pass up on him.
