The funny thing is that there could actually be a legitimate argument for trading Dez (back problems and $ the biggest reasons) but the overall approach in the OP was just way off lol

We have one guy on this team that actually hates losing as much as SOME Dallas fans hate seeing the team lose and this clown wants to trade him! Unreal. How about finding 52 other guys that actually care as much as Dez and dominating the league. I am sure a team full of gentlemen would be pleasant to root for. Give the a team of badasses Anyday.

What would be the cost to franchise him? Is it more than $12 mil ?

Actually, the cost to franchise him might be less than the contract he is actually worth. The downside of franchising him is it removes cap flexibility.

Hear me out.

We could obviously get some picks for him and replace him. Lets say a 1st and 2nd round pick for Dez.

If the trade doesn't work out, maybe it will at least send a message to him that walking off the sideline during a game is unacceptable. IMO he is walking when his contract is up anyway. He wants to win.

Possible Replacements: Sammy Watkins, Kelvin Benjamin or Mike Evans

These rooks will be just as good as Dez and and maybe don't have the bad "Team" attitude.

With the extra picks you could shore up DL and LB, maybe even snag a RB.

Teams are not going to give up a significant draft pick or picks for a player with 1 year remaining on his contract.

Yup, their names are Laveranues Coles, Percy Harvin, Deion Branch, Roy Williams, Joey Galloway.

Sad that we are on the hook there twice.

I think all this talk of nobody hates losing more than Dez is roughly equal in value to all the talk we had jammed down our throats for two decades that nobody loved playing the game more than Brett Favre.

Means nothing to me.

Not going to happen.

Jerry doesn't trade "his guys".

I think Dez is a really good player, however, I think the Cowboys are headed to a scenario where they are going to pay Dez top 3-4 WR money for a guy who may not be a Top 5 WR.

They are heading into the last year of his contract and they are going to have to do something soon.

God I hope Dez leaves. If you can name 5 receivers better than Dez you don't watch football. Aj green lovers annoy the hell out of me.

Clicked on this thread expecting some kind of eye-opening, well thought out reason on why trading Dez would be beneficial for the team with regard to accumulating picks like the Walker trade, or possibly his injury issues.

But instead, I just got cowboyszoned.

It won't happen because he will sell jerseys when Romo is gone, but as far as current economics of the NFL go it is the no-brainer of no-brainers. The 16M a top flight receiver commands just isn't worth what they bring to the table.

people buy romo jerseys? why would they subject themselves to that ridicule? walk around the city of dallas, all you see is dez jerseys. he's got the soul of the city. he's not going anywhere OP.

I can't think of 5, but I would definitely take Calvin, Green and Julio over Dez. Can't legitimately put anyone else over him, but Gordon and Alshon could push him out of the top 5 next year if they keep things up.

There is no need to hear you out.

We are not getting a 1st and a 2nd even for Bryant. The NFL has learned that while great WR's are special there is no need to give up that kind of draft ammo in order to have one. Loads of teams do just fine without having a big time great WR and you're just not going to see anyone give up that kind of draft ammo to have one.

Yeah, that's the ticket alright -- punish one boneheaded move by committing another one! What a novel idea! That'll teach him to walk off the sidelines early! It'd also teach us not to be knee-jerk fools. You don't divest yourself of one of your very best offensive players simply to spank him.

There is Megatron in a category all by himself and then another 5-6 guys who in the next tier in my mind:

(in no particular order)

D. Thomas (Denver)
AJ Green
Dez
Josh Gordon (yes, I know it was only his 2nd season, however, leading the league in yardage with the garbage they had throwing the ball counts for something)
Jeffrey
Marshall

That's not really the point. Great teams aren't built around Top 5 receivers that are paid like Top 5 receivers. Look at the teams that were good enough to earn bye weeks and are hosting playoff games this weekend. The Seahawks don't have a Top 5 receiver. The Patriots don't either. The Panthers don't. The Broncos do, but he's a top 5 guy because of his quarterback, and he is still on an economical rookie contract.

I don't know about that.

Julio has much better speed which could blow the top off of vertical double coverage. But for the sake of this team, it probably wouldn't matter because our QB isn't the best at hitting WRs in stride down field.

Apparently some on this board feel that dumping every football player that's worth a darn is how you win championships.

Just trade everyone the way you do in Madden.

Written for a 4th! Romo for a 2nd! Dez for a 1st and 2nd! Tyron for a 1st! Scandrick for a 2nd! Garrett for a ham sandwich!

50 million in dead money but CHAMPIONSHIP! Woohooooooooooooooooo!
