Great post as usual Hos. Top 5 O + Top 20 D = A Playoff Run but we have to stay reasonably healthy. Like with any team if we lose any of our offensive heavy hitters we will be in trouble.

Davon Coleman is my pet cat, the kid is freakish and what's scary is he now appears to get it. I will be watching him and Bishop. I anticipate it is going to be very fun to watch.
Like I said, last year Ben Bass would have started for us had he not got hurt. I'm sorry, but he is better than Nick Hayden was. He won't even make this team unless he plays out of his skull.

I predict last seasons' 432 points allowed drops by about 100 points this year. I'd like to see it drop more than that, but not without Sean Lee. No way. Anything from 70 points better or more should have this team playing very well. I definitely think we're going to love this team.

I agree. Granted we are playing the NFC West this year, but quite frankly the only thing scary about the NFC West is their defenses.

Our DL will be improved, and that will have cascading effects allowing the LB's and DB's to play better. Last year was essentially the movie " The Replacements " on defense.

Honestly this year is even more blurry then our past 3 8-8 seasons. I do think we've gotten better, but a lot of that depends on the play of Romo as well. If Romo can be his normal self then I think we a great shot at winning the division, but if he's injured any then it looks very bleak.

It's a weird year. While I think we've improved ourself relative to where we were at the end of last season defensively, I liked our chances a lot better going into the season last season than I do this season. I was a high on Crawford, Claiborne and Carter, and we had Lee, Hatcher, Ware, and Spencer on the roster and Ratliff coming back.

This season, we've got a lot less potentially very good talent. I do think we're deeper, everywhere. We're missing a number of 7, 8, 9s, and we've replaced them two-for one with young, hungry 4, 5, 6s. Some of the young guys might get a lot better over the course of the season. We've probably got the personnel (and the redundancy) to fit what we want to do defensively better. But we've lost a lot of talent.

Where last season I'd have started off saying Dallas or WAS were the favorites to win the East, this year, I think we're a definite underdog. And that stinks, because I actually think we're really on the right track right now. We're just running out of it very quickly.

I do like the indications we're seeing a bit here recently (read Mo's comments on DC.com today, too) that the defense seems to be taking an us-v-the-world mentality. I like (don't love, but like) Marinelli for DC and think he's an upgrade over Kiffin at this point by a wide margin. I could see a scenario where we jump up and surprise people this season--that's the thing about the NFL...it really does happen with some regularity. I'm just not counting on it. I'm hoping we can stay close enough to compete for the East, and that we get better and better as the season goes on and hit the playoffs hot enough to have a puncher's chance to do some real damage. I'm not predicting that, though.

I would prefer to see a couple of Preseason games by the Cowboys and NFC East rivals before making any type of prediction.

Really, the best time to really evaluate the teams is after training camp. I knew after training camp last season that they were going to have issues because they were already having injury issues including Spencer and Ratliff had already flaked out.

Obviously the biggest issue this Preseason is to see how Romo looks.

How can you not go into every season without optimism. Shed the defeatist attitude. Were Americas Team. Were Gods Team. We've been so close the past few years well this time the cup runneth over and were hosting a playoff game or two.

The main thing I am looking forward to is if and how many of the youngsters decide to step up.

We have gone through a few years after the fallout from the horrible 2009 draft where the depth has been in flux.

It would be huge if players like Crawford, Holloman and Wilcox can take the next step. I also am eager to see how Bishop and Gardner look. The good things written about them so far stirs some intrigue.

In general, it is the one thing I look forward to the most leading up to the season - what youngsters will prove their worth. Wilcox, Holloman and Crawford probably top my list, as well, considering the ardent need for themto be the answer at their perspective positions, but I'm also still very curious about Dunbar and the recently signed Ryan Williams. Behind an improved Ol, I honestly believe we will see a very improved running game this year.

Stop clinging to that "America's team" crap.

I think Dallas is an 8-8 team capable of playing better. Frankly Hatcher was the only productive player we lost this off season. I like Ware but for about a season and a half he has not been able to produce.

I will say this about the defense: in years past, the Cowboys have relied on stopgap veterans and aging stars trying to rekindle one more good year. This year, they are relying on young talent. Granted, that young talent could wind up being awful, but it does suggest the defense has a higher ceiling.

I think we'll see an improvement in the defense simply from having another year of this scheme under their belt. I'm also very exited about what Linehan will bring to the other side.

Now that's interesting...

A 100 point drop from last season's numbers would have put us as the 8th best scoring defense in the league. That would be quite an improvement.

70 points less would have made us 13th.

I guess we will see.
