Let's see. They play the toughest division in football.

They have a QB coming off back surgery.

They just lost their best linebacker.

Their defensive line had to be rebuilt..

Our defensive backs are a big question mark.

We have a horrible in game head coach.

I'll believe it when I see it that the Cowboys make any noise this year.

Sorry YR did not see your post. I just repeated the same concerns.

Aside from this being one of worst divisions in football, i agree

USA Today predicted NFC East as

NFC East

Eagles 11-5 (4): Class of weak division. But can Nick Foles reproduce 2013 magic? DeSean Jackson's speed will be missed.
Commanders 7-9: If the line and RG3's knee hold up, this offense will be hard to slow, but defense may be year away.
Giants 6-10: Eli Manning's supporting cast is getting younger, even if he isn't. Team speed doesn't impress.
Cowboys 3-13: Tony Romo's back, defense are looking awfully frail. Dallas fans might end up pining for .500 teams.

This is why I stopped buying USA Today, nor go to their website....especially the money section.
If this is the crap they put out, I certainly don't want their money advice....

How can you not go into every season without optimism. Shed the defeatist attitude. Were Americas Team. Were Gods Team. We've been so close the past few years well this time the cup runneth over and were hosting a playoff game or two.
This may come as a shock, so take a seat if needed.

This is Jerry Jones. Some people believe he's Satan (or The Devil depending on whether Roger Goodell speaks on any given day). Satan is evil. Nothing good will ever come to fruition as long as Satan is involved.

Do not sprinkle any holy water on your screen. It has no effect. Trust me. Some people have already tried.

237007.jpg

This is Jason Garrett. Some see him as Little Nicky. HIs hair is the color of hellfire. He has also gone by other names, such as The Trainee, Red Jesus, and so forth. According to some, Little Nicky will never become a quality head coach simply because he does not have it in him.

nfl_g_tonyromo_cmg_600_300x300.jpg

Finally, this is Tony Romo, a person so vile his very existence causes avatars to stick their heads up their... well, up a very disgusting place. His nefarious nature knows no bounds. He wears his cap backwards. He's married with children. He has sustained severe injuries while having the audacity of playing through enormous pain. He ran off Johnny Football. He caused Patrick Crayton to run the wrong route and Miles Austin to see lights in his eyes. As a quarterback, he once DARED to mishandle a field goal snap and succeeded. He has the (I pray for forgiveness) respect of Roger Staubach. He bewitches college and professional sports teams with only a glance. All interceptions are his fault without exception. He accepts huge contract extensions like every other player who has ever been offered one. Even worse, he has an endorsement deal with... I cannot speak the name without throwing up a little in my mouth... Starter Apparel.

Jones's mere presence makes it an absolute certainty that Dallas will never be successful on the field. Garrett's Hellspawn University Princeton education precludes that he cannot learn from his previous errors in judgment. Romo's inabilty to stop the run and pass on defense is absolutely reprehensible. Together they form an insidious trilogy, an alliance which they trademarked as Doom, Gloom and Boomshakalaka.

Know this: Nothing positive will ever come about as long as these three are connected with the team. Verily, it matters not what the team does on game day. What about player accountability you might ask? Bah, I tell you. Bah indeed.

These are all words of truth, for they have been expressed or implied on CowboysZone for many moons. So it has been posted written. So it shall be done.

I hear everyone saying we're 8-8 again, or 6-10, even worse. I think that's a load of crap and I'll tell you why. The Defense is going to be a lot better in 2014, and we now have the makings of a really great OL.

How can I say the Defense will be better? It's real simple, it is no longer a M*A*S*H unit. When this team does improve a lot of people are going to have to explain why they were wrong about the injuries hurting us in 2013. They did hurt us. Way more than people realize.

We lost the best 2 pieces of our Defensive Line and I still say we're going to be better than last year. The reason is we finally have some decent depth. Nothing against Nick Hayden, but when he's a starter, you're in some trouble.

Let's look at DE from last year and this year.

2013...DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer (1 game), George Selvie, Landon Cohen, Edgar Jones, Caesar Rayford, Jason Vega, and Jarius Wynn.

2014...DeMarcus Lawrence, Anthony Spencer, Tyrone Crawford, Ben Gardner, Jeremy Mincey, George Selvie, and Martez Wilson.

I figure 6 of that group will make the team with Crawford getting work inside and out. Martez Wilson is probably the odd man out.

Now let's look at DT from last year and this year.

2013...Jason Hatcher, Nick Hayden, Jerome Long, Marvin Austin, Everette Brown, Everett Dawkins, Corvey Irvin, David Carter, Drake Nevis, and Frank Kearse.

2014...Henry Melton, Terrell McClain, Amobi Okoye, Josh Brent?, Ben Bishop, Ben Bass, and Davon Coleman.

I think people are really going to like Davon Coleman. Put him or Bishop with that first 4, or both of them and drop Brent.

With the Offense clearly looking to control the clock more with the ground game setting up the passing game, and the Defense actually having better depth for a fresh legs rotation I am saying the Defense is going to be better than people give it credit for. I just can't understand why people think last year's Defense wasn't the easy biggest issue with what was wrong with this team.

Enjoy the season, it's going to be a lot better than people think right now. I look forward to some excitement. Get excited now for your Cowboys. You won't regret it.

I, too, half no truck with being a pessimister.

But no matter how we belief in these mens in 2014 the fact remains is that the DT position a collection of misfits (Melton who is coming off an alleged bar altercation and reconstructive knee surgery? i didn't know that!!), benchwarmers like McClain (with Houston for two years and washed out at Carolina and New England; the Dallas Warming News called him a "reclamation project"), Amobi Okoye (out of football in 2013; Garrett say he had "health issues" last year, so what do that means?), Josh Brent (you is pulling my leg, yes, mein desert friend?), Ken Bishop (to me he will always be Ben; called "versatile" by USA Today and that means he doesn't "own" a position but half potential as a rotational player; good luck wit that), Ben Bass (a blogger, KD Drummond say he had TWO assists in two years and ended each year with a injury? How can this be?); Davon Coleman (undrafted by every team through 7 rounds).

As for DE I see pRomise.Promise with a capital R. OK, I cannot wait to see what Lawrence and Selvie can do this coming year. Yet . . . The long-ailing Spencer, coming off an injury and our savor, meh. Jeremey Mincey (no more than 3 sacks since 2011, rules violations in Jacksville last year and picked up and then unloaded by Denver). And Martez Wilson? He was cut by the Saints and then the mighty . . . Raiders. But some say he half pass-rushing ability (again, rotational material).

This is not a defensive team with talented veterans.
Rookies, castoffs and back from injury players is the mediam profile.
I am looking at this threw the eye of an objective cyclops, not as a wishful thinking fan, because this defensive team will be surrendering 30 points (or more depending on the opposition) per game.
They, like Selvie, might be game but their game is past or unproven or just plain mediocre.
Not a team upon witch to lay our hopes in.

I am, instead, keeping an eye on the offensive. That is where our hopes lay. Passing to Dez and Witten and sustained running game to keep their offenses off the field.
That is mein viewpoint.

Not the less: 7-9 (depending on my medication) or 6-10 if injuries hit us hard again.

And welcome back, Hostile. It half been much too long. This board improve when you are here and it is bearly bearable with the likes of me. Do not stay away.
Like a proven defensive player who stay out of trouble, we need you here to hep me and we knows I needs hep.
OK, I am dizzy from being so analytical and introspective and stuff so I half to lie down to rest mein braincells.

I like the offense. If Romo returns to form, 30 points a game isn't beyond the realm of possibility.

That will half to happen because like I say so many times, our defense is so awful that they will surrender 30 points a game. So the offense need 31 points a game, preferably a lot more because our coaches still need pointeers on game management in the last quarter.

Maybe the Cowboys go 6-10; maybe they go 8-8; maybe they go 10-6.
So many variables that cannot be predicted:
  • Romo's health
  • DL by numbers getting pressure
  • Someone playing adequately at MLB
  • Secondary improving play in 2nd year of system
  • Other injuries and missed games by players throughout the season
  • Our opponents' injuries, changes, and ability to improve and play at a high level
Predictions, even if Romo was 100% and Shawn Lee was playing, are still only paper predictions. It's a week to week league in the NFL.

I will say one thing. I like the direction this team is headed. I'm glad DWare is gone...hope he plays better in the 3-4 and stays healthy, but he was making too much money and contributing too little. When you have DWare with Hatcher's career year of production, and your defense still stinks and you finish 8-8, it's clear that Ware is not the difference maker. This was the time to cut salary and age in favor of youth and numbers.

I like where our offense is "on paper" and I do think our defense will be improved, even without Lee....how much improved is anyone's guess, but I enjoy watching young hungry players, and I like the role of underdog. This Cowboys team is fully capable of splitting games with Philly, Washington, and NY. Maybe better...but going 3-3 within the division is not exactly pie in the sky or rose colored glasses, yet it means you have a chance to compete for the division title. You have a chance to compete. And most importantly, you are building through youth with only a dash of free agency, which means there's no reason you won't improve significantly in the next 2-3 years. That's something you cannot say when you have millions tied up in fading stars, despite their being great guys and Cowboys.

Like I said, last year Ben Bass would have started for us had he not got hurt. I'm sorry, but he is better than Nick Hayden was. He won't even make this team unless he plays out of his skull.

I predict last seasons' 432 points allowed drops by about 100 points this year. I'd like to see it drop more than that, but not without Sean Lee. No way. Anything from 70 points better or more should have this team playing very well. I definitely think we're going to love this team.
I will be happy with 50 less points. Interesting how some fans can hope for a 3-13 season or find the dark cloud in every silver lining. In today's NFL fortunes change with the seasons. Every team is one major injury away, one blown call away, and one funny bounce away from a successful season to picking in the top 10 of the draft.

A team with foundational pieces like a good offensive and defensive line can overcome a lot. We definitely have one of the better OLs in the NFL. Our DL is young and hungry and should be leaps better than last year's stock boy laden DL. The jury will remain out until we see them play. I have a good feeling but time will tell. I suspect they will be a little slow initially but come on strong as they learn and grow into their positions. I love our depth there, which we should be able to agree is a vast improvement over last year.

We have a weakness in the LB department but that hinges on Carter. If he plays to his 2012 form we will be ok. Our secondary will be a strength this year. When Mo was playing you could see the potential for a good secondary.

I consider myself a moderate person but the extremes here are pretty laughable. One thing for sure, there will be at least 6 new playoff teams this year, why not us?

I agree. Granted we are playing the NFC West this year, but quite frankly the only thing scary about the NFC West is their defenses.

Our DL will be improved, and that will have cascading effects allowing the LB's and DB's to play better. Last year was essentially the movie " The Replacements " on defense.

It's nice to be the underdog in the division because NY, Wash, and Philly all play the West as well. If we take care of business in the division and go 3-3 or 4-2, we will have as good a chance as anyone to win the division. The overall record doesn't matter at all to me.

I do think our defense will be improved, even without Lee.....

I am no fan of the perpetually injured Lee. Yet, how can this defense be improved without Lee. If we had maybe 3 D-line veteran studs around I'd say, yeah, that might be.

But sans Lee, how can we be better? His injury thows the whole linebacking corps into a twilight zone of uncertainty.

But you are dead-on as to Ware. He went from all universe to grea to functional and then function when healthy to injured. All the time hurting us cap wise. Good move on jerra's part. We seem to be getting away from coddling the injuried and aging (hatcher, Ratliff, Ware and maybe Spencer after the preseason).

I did enjoy your post as I ate my baloney samwich with Kool aide.

I'm not afraid either. When it's warranted, I'll predict it. I won't just do it every year to show everyone how much of a fan I am.

I think we're a 6 win team conservatively. If we can get Romo back to form for a full season we can be back in the 8-8 mix. What the Cowboys won't be is a real contender.

You can't just look at the talent on this team, though I think that is lacking. It's also the environment that talent is coached in. With no authority in the head coach.

Wow!! You're soooo clueless and predictable at the same time.

lol you know what I meant!

Yes, I do.

I'm old, and I still go into each year with renewed hope that maybe Jerry will come down with a case of Amazon crotch rot so horrible that he will have to need to have his genitalia (thus, his brain) removed. Or maybe JG's head will actually burst into flames. Or Bayless will get a thrombosed hemorrhoid as big as his ego.

And that the rest of the league will get a mysterious allergy to turf.

Hell, there's always next year.

i could put the cowboys in a blender.
i could change every name we know with "potential".
i could spend a lifetime admiring or hating your enthusiasm.

but the common denominator every time is we're gonna be better than last year.

cheerleaders avoided me in life, or i avoided them. you can argue the whys till you die but the same point of relevance is...

avoid.

i'm not going to "believe" just cause. i *do* want them to prove it. i *do* want them to grow. i *do* want them to win.

i don't need you telling me how to appreciate a season.

ignore.

My god how sensitive are you? Ignoring someone just because they are positive...lol

Goodness this fan base is getting sad.

The mediots will have you believe that it is filthy's division to lose but those same pundits predicted the texans would be in the super bowl last year. However, the angry pessimistic crowd in the guise of realist only want you to count the optimistic bad predictions. Do as I say do and not as I do.....
