J.C. Copeland

I'm with you. I also have a feeling that, unless Copeland is an asset in the passing game, he'll only be there for running plays. Which would make it obvious to the defense what we're doing. Think about it -- who would we substitute Copeland for on a passing play? Witten, Escobar, Street, Beasley, etc? Can't see that happening.

Yep, we'd be tipping our hand to the defense as to what's coming. Copeland offers nothing but straight line blocking and he ate himself into a disappointing year last year.

I want a blocking back who can catch the ball. There are a lot of plays one can run esp in short yardage or GL situations which are dependent of the back being a run/catch threat. And preferably they can catch the ball and turn up field without falling down. We don't need a FB with a lot of wiggle or missem'.

I don't want a fullback at all. I want a 2nd or 3rd TE who can handle those duties when need be, because that guy figures to offer more in the pass game which is the focal point of offense these days.

Save yourself that roster spot.

That's acceptable to me if they can offer the same blocking. We don't have a F back who can block as well as a good FB. I'm all for using a TE as a FB though.

Rivals.com gave him a 4 star rating as a DE coming out of high school.(they also had him listed as 6-2 240 lbs he is now 5-11 270) He's too slow and too short for that now but I have a strong suspicion he get's some looks at DT which could help his chances. I'd love to see him and Henry fight it out to see which one is gonna be the 4th and inches guy.

A FB will make the roster. Copeland still no better than 50/50 to be that guy.

We had a fullback at the end of last season too.

FB is basically a must now because Hanna and Escobar are better wide-tight guys then H-Backs/backfield guys.

We'll probably only keep 2 QBs(assuming Orton is gone), 4 RB(1FB), 3 TE

We had a good run game last season but we struggled in short yardage situations. Maybe they like the idea of having a bowling ball to help get that 1 or 2 yards for the first down/TD.

not really.
on pass plays with 2 RB you can release witten plus murray or dunbar and use copeland as the 6th blocker.
copeland or any FB is a part-time player but one that lends itself to some pretty cool sets.

dez, esco, witten
murray, FB
Big set....
That's a really strong pass or run set.

dez, twill, witten, murray, FB
base set with lots of run/pass options, tons of speed on the edges and middle there for witten

I wanted to draft Trey Millard. He is 6-2 and is a very good receiver. He could play FB, F-back and perform some TE type duties.

Dallas tried that last year, I would prefer a dual role TE also, but the run game suffered without a FB last year.

I'm with you. Give DM29 a fullback behind our revamped OL and he'll give you these results:

:)

man how fast demarco was in college. Were is that speed today. I mean he is still pretty fast for his size but he had a second gear/ jamaal charles like speed.

I think he's always wanted one on the roster, but just hasn't found one that could stick. Fiammetta was the guy originally, but he would get concussed laying down to go to sleep at night.

They ended up claiming Fiametta had an inner-ear problem instead of concussions. He's with the Bears now.

I don't get the excitement with this guy. He's a dinosaur. Today's game just doesn't fit what he can do.

You conform the game. Be a trend setter and not a trend follower. If the wishbone offense can win in the NFL,I would run it. Dinosaur or not.

Yes. J.C. Copeland is going to change the way the game is played.

There are plays where you really put the outside contain man in a bind using a F back or a FB. Run him st8 at the contain man generally the OLB. The FB can either block the guy or fake the block and run right by him. I'm not describing it well but the LB has to either cover the FB or contain leaving a pitch or dump to the RB. That forces the DB up and puts him in a bind esp around the GL. That's just one play. Generally the Fback/FB jets by the guy. Can force the safety up, too, leaving another soft spot for a WR.

I don't know if he's the one... but give me a fullback. In goal line and short yardage, they can be valuable..... also if a team shows they can be dominated by the run.. bring the fb in and dominate them.

I don't see where that approach has ever worked.

Quite the opposite in fact.

I've repeatedly seen the Cowboys have their best running performances when they had a fullback in the lineup.

When I hear "5 '11' 270" I just picture Ram Man from the He Man cartoon.

Last season we were promised big things from the two TE set; they didn't deliver.

If he can help Murray and protect Romo I'm all for it.

It may even keep the damage Demarco takes down.
