J.C. Copeland

Read somewhere Garrett wanted a FB. Could have been here as speculation. Personally I'd rather have a Fback. But Copeland intrigues me.

Garrett stated back when he became a Cowboys coach that he liked using the fullback, but didn't know if it was realistic to use them anymore because there aren't any Mooses around.

I think he still prefers having a fullback on the field because they are simply better blockers coming out of the backfield than most tight ends. Clutts was picked up because the tight end blocking lacked last year and Copeland has a chance for that same reason. Both can be dive options and possibly dump-off pass catchers, so it's still a viable position, but not ideal (just like a pass-catching tight end who can't block well).

Yes he was terrible in college

Career Records at University of Oklahoma
  • All-Time Leader in Points Scored (390)
  • All-Time Leader in Touchdowns (65)
  • All-Time Leader in All Purpose Yards (6,718)
  • All-Time Leader in Receiving Yards for a Running Back (1,571)
  • All-Time Leader in Kickoff Return average (27.6)

Where did I say he was terrible?

what u might want to go look up his college highlights. And of i forgot he ran faster than charles at the combine despit weighing 13lbs more. Try again. Demarco use to have a second gear were u don't see him get caught from behind and he use to out run the defenders angles. Now he seems to have good speed but doesn't have the long speed anymore.

Since when is a 4.41 faster than a 4.38?

And that's in shorts. Murray doesn't play as fast as Charles in pads.

I'm a Sooners fan. DeMarco Murray never had long football speed. I don't care what his 40 time was.

Evident to anyone who watches him on the field. He simply plays slower than he timed. Whereas Charles plays exactly as timed.

On that note let's hope D-Law plays faster than he timed...

He never, ever had Charles type wheels. He was a straight line, one cut back at OU. Charles was a juke guy who could make multiple cuts and could make people miss in the whole. Two completely different backs.

Same here. The lead fullback thing was because he did well with Fiammetta. More of a media thing than what Murray has said.

But it makes sense. Also, thou I can not produce an article, it seems as if I remember Murray saying something to the effect of liking to run behind a fullback. He is really more of a one cut running back so having a lead blocker allows him to do this more effectively. He is not a guy who is going to make a lot of moves. He's going to attack the LOS and make a cut of a block and try to run to daylight. He's going to get physical with you in the secondary and try to run you over if he can. It makes sense to allow him to use a FB if the idea is to help the run game IMO. I'm sure all of this has probably already been said in this thread but that's how it seems to me.

Haven't seen any threads on him. Dude is an animal. I really, really hope we keep a true FB on the roster, and I'd love for it to be him. He's a great all-around FB and an absolute truck as a blocker.

He could quickly become Murray's BFF.

he needs work in blocking, as I have read multiple places, his technique is not that good and he looks to decleat people and in the NFL, with the athleticism of the LBs, he will often find himself out of position. he is not that good in carrying nor receiving. I think everyone is just fascinated by his size and still dreaming of finding another Johnston. Fact is that FB is a dying breed in the NFL, if not already......I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the team.

You imply things, that way you don't have to use real facts. Do you think the Vikings wished they had Charles instead of Peterson? Oops it was Murray who made the Oklahoma fans forget about Peterson, while he was setting all those records.

I'm a Murray fan. I'd rather have Charles. I'd rather have Peterson than either.

And no Oklahoma fan forgot about Adrian freaking Peterson because of Demarco.

No Texas fan did either. I'd rather see Murray every day and twice on Sunday then Peterson ever again. LOL........

I don't see where that approach has ever worked.

Quite the opposite in fact.

I've repeatedly seen the Cowboys have their best running performances when they had a fullback in the lineup.

They are good in the redzone where you have 9 guys in the box. Issue that I have is guys like Escobar or Witten are never going to win their leverage battles when they have to move in space. Getting down inline is one thing but the runnning motion is what it is.
